  1. I have a question. How does a college junior - playing against high school kids - get rated above a high school kid - playing in the same league - who had more doubles, triples home runs in 27 fewer at bats? Oh by the way, he also also a higher batting average and more than 100 points higher OPS. If the explanation is the fact that Lucroy plays a premium position, I'll buy the logic, and could be possibly be convinced that he deserves a higher rating than Gindl, who also has some decent speed and a cannon for an arm in the outfield. Please help me understand.
  2. I just wish I had not signed up on the MLB baseball site too. Now I'm paying for both. Bummer
  3. Great job by Melvin - no question. Currently we have a stable, consistant, big picture direction for the entire franchise. Keeping prospects at their proper levels not rushing them and ruining them. A minor league system that still looks like it's still fairly deep, with 5 or 6 top picks coming in '08. The major league team ready to go for the grapes. Sure we can 20/20 hindsight individual moves, but the other teams are trying too. Many, if not most of the other teams have far more resources available to them than the Brewers. Looking at the forest or the trees? I don't think we should we go back to sucking. The suggestion that Jack Z should be a GM was answered this year. Several new GM's hired in MLB this year. No one thought to even give the guy a phone call, much less an interview.
  4. You want Salty or Teagarden it probably starts with at least Villanueva...... and Bush or Cappy would not be in the discussion. There should be no real reason for Texas to hang on to all 3 and Laird is just so dang solid, he's tough to push out. You dangle the right arm(s) and either of the young catchers will be out of there in a heartbeat.
  5. Probably as soon as Branyan is gone. EDIT: It's spelled with an 'a', not an 'o' - b19
  6. Greeeaaat................. Now I can read a new thread everyday for the rest of the year about this mope tearing up AAA and we need to call him up - NOW. And he should be batting clean up , or lead off , or pitching, or pinch running, or bull pen catcher. Gack. Puke. Wretch. Bye Bye BFN. I'll be back when adult conversations start up again.
  7. I stopped following the Bucks when Herb Kohl fired Don Nelson. He tries really hard to be a good owner, but, fact is, he sucks. Virtually every decision he has made ends up turning out sour. I almost came back to the Bucks when George Karl was coach, but when Kohl gave Karl power, that huge contract and let him make that stupid Gary Payton trade, I knew I would never watch a Bucks game again until the Senator was gone. Too bad because he was responsible for the Bucks staying in Milwaukee - a very good thing. But the product has never been anything but very substandard.
  8. Don't know much about the kool-aid thing. During last Saturday's Talking Brewers, Doug Melvin compares Blanton's stats to Dave Bush. He said they're remarkably similar, up until this past season. To date, DM has given me little reason not to believe him.
  9. Yep, they even traded for a couple of nice prospects in the Randy Johnson trade. However, I still agree with the premise that any prospect that the Yankees has, tends to get over valued.
  10. KC is great. Easy access and parking. Fans are big time friendly. Wrigley is great if you sit in the bleachers, sitting in the lower deck is no fun at all. Cleveland is a great park, fans are ok. Texas is a great park and a pretty good time. Atlanta's good, nothing overly special. Minnesota is an absolute crummy baseball experience. Haven't been to the new parks in St Louis or San Francisco yet, but it was cool to have been in the old parks, especially Candlestick.
  11. Long before the internet was even a dream, The Sporting News was the baseball source for all information. I started reading it in 1968. When I got the newest weekly delivery, I went straight to the columns written by the late Dick Young of the NY Post and Furman Bisher of the Atlanta Journal. Fabulous sports writers. When Gammons came on board, it was instantly clear that he was much better than either of those guys. No one is more plugged into the game, has a better feel for the game or has better inside sources. Yes, we had to read about the Red Sox every week, even though he wrote a national column, but he was so dang good it just did not matter. All that matters to Gammnons is what happens on the field. The actual game itself is treated with reverence. To writers of that earlier time, all the soap opera, contract negotiations junk only serves to draw attenton away from the game. While I don't always agree with Gammons, I truly enjoy this approach.
  12. If it was confirmed instead of conjecture, I guess, if you want to. It just sounded like hyperbole to me.
  13. I said on the very first thread, back when Prince announced that Boras was his agent, that Prince will be gone the first chance he gets. Nothing has changed since then. Holding out hope that he'll stay is a useless waste of energy. Enjoy him while he's here, then watch him move on to the big money.
  14. We go through two years of hades watching him grow into a fine defensive 2B, he's just as he's becoming proficient, and want to move him. Extraordinarily curious.
  15. Lots of vitamin B. That's why Tomato juice is real good(or better yet a bloody Mary). Drink 2 full glasses of water with 2 aspirin before you go to bed that helps too.
  16. It will be interesting to see what they do with 7 picks in the top 100 or so. Last year thay had two. They have not really focussed on any particular position in the past, always taking the best player on their board. However, having all of those early picks it's logical to assume that several pitchers will be on their list when it's time to pick.
  17. Never had a problem with Schroeder. Acually IMO he's pretty good. I'd be disappointed if he left.
  18. Re-read lumberrule's post AS. It says toughest games are at home(Padres). Atlanta is the tough road foe. Luke's post makes the best statement that the Cubs probably have an advantage schedule-wise. Brewers have a chance if Zambrano continues to go winless.
  19. Sharon Tate - mentioned earlier - can be seen on Beverly Hillbillies reruns as one of Mr. Drysdale's secretaries.
  20. Boy, West Virginia is sure missing Knucklescraper and Wendte. Donovan Hand gets pushed around a bit for the loss. Tough loss. On the other hand, Carols V allows 1 hit in 4 innings w 4k's. Decent enough.
  21. Guy gets two hits and we're talking sitting regulars. This is the same thread (insert Joe Dillon) from a couple of days ago. Lots of losses bring out the most curious threads.
  22. Maybe greybeard Travis Wendte can now get some Power 50 love now that he hasn't given up a run in a month or so (0 er in 12 innings since his promotion to Brevard). I know he turns 25 in the winter, but all he does is produce. Every time Matthew Cline plays for Helena, it seems he's in the middle of lots of good stuff. Wonder what would happen if they gave him some regular playing time.
  23. It would be great if Castro gets the MLB job he deserves and Kyles takes over the bullpen. On the other hand, Kyles to any big league club would be well deserved.
  24. It does look like he's a got a shot at being a prospect. I hope this convinces more and more not to get so excited over #'s put up by college players in Helena. If those are indeed true indicators for future success, then Lucroy and Wilson are the next Bench and Schmidt. On the other hand, Gindl's off the chart #s as an 18 year old in Helena should be more of a reason for optimism. After looking at your comparing Gillespie's and Braun's #'s, it really makes Gamel's #'s look very impressive.
