  1. It is hard to separate a manager problem from Gomez. Keep him in the bottom of the lineup and I think it actually plays more to his strengths. Speed plays well in front of bad hitters and his power plays well behind our OBP guys. As long as our goal is not to win I agree, start Gomez every day. Gomez has better raw tools than probably anybody on our team. Gomez is probably one of the best(if not the best) defensive CF in the game. Still I don't think the gap is big going from elite to above average defense in CF is very big unless you play most of your games in a park with a huge outfield. He is the perfect pinch runner/late game defensive replacement. Yeah he has some value but unless he developed better discipline he is pretty limited as a hitter. Even with his fantastic defense he isn't a guy I would sign to a contract for more than a year at a time. I meant let him walk after next year when he hits FA. The only reason to think letting Gomez walk is silly is if you have no faith in Schafer being a good CF at the MLB level. If you can get value for him that would be the prefered way to go. I see little point in either Gomez staing or us signing him to a ong term deal. If I were Gomez I would want to play for a team that would let me play every day. I think our whole disagreement revolves around how each of us values Schafer. You state he is a fringe MLB guy. I think he can be at least an average MLB CF. About what Gomez would be over a full year. At least I think Gomez could be an average CF. Schafer will cost a lot less per year than Gomez.
  2. Our MiLB talent got a nice shot in the arm this year talent wise. With the draft picks and trade deadline pickups we have some really nice talent upside talent to add to the surprising pitching depth we already had.
  3. Maybe not that much but at the very least Maldanado should be starting one game a series with the other guy sitting out the entire game(no coming in to play a few innings behind the dish).
  4. They want TT as a starter. That was one of 3 good things to take away from this game. Well 4 actually. 1. Rogers had a good start 2. Weeks is looking pretty good at the plate 3. Our offense scored 10 runs 4. The organization wants TT as a starter.(Why did they bring him up and stick him in the pen in the first place.)
  5. I disliked Ishikawa on the roster probably as much as anybody on this board but why Izturis and not Ishikawa here? I guess my dislike for Ishikawa is only superseded by my dislike for our manager.
  6. I would be against a 3 year deal for Gomez. Unless Schafer is expected to be a bust I think you go with him and let Gomez walk. Gomez is a good CF but just can't hit very well.
  7. Griner last month withdrew from consideration for the 12th and final spot to play for the U.S. women's basketball team at the London Olympics this summer. Griner cited a family illness and her summer school schedule for her decision not to participate. She averaged 12.8 points and 7.3 rebounds a game during the 2011 European Tour with USA Basketball.
  8. It gets brought up every time there is a Gomez discussion. "He has shown no improvement in 1500 PA." "He's only 25, he still has time to improve." "Of course he has time to improve but he has shown little or no improvement in 1500 PA. He should have shown at least a little improvement." "He looked good for the last week." Sure the guy can improve and he is still pretty young and maybe even rushed to the big leagues. He looks like he is hitting the ball harder. Maybe a tick better plate discipline. Not much to say we should expect him to get much better. Hell I hope he gets better for my own sanity because our manager seems to think he should hit in the top of the order despite his general lack of ability to hit.
  9. I think you are placing to much value on defense. It isn't very often the difference in their arm strength will actually make a difference. Morgan grades out as well above average on defense. Good enough that his offense against RHP more than makes up for the difference on defense.
  10. Generally you will find out about trades and minor league callups here way ahead of the major news outlets. Usually before the Journal Sentinel. Please don't start a BABIP debate or do and see what happens. We haven't had one of those debates in a while.
  11. As long as Morgan is on the team and you want to win games this season they should be in a straight platoon with Gomez being a late inning defensive replacement. As long as he in't in the top of the order I don't have much of a problem with him playing a lot. Realistically if Morgan wasn't completely inept(or at least as bad as Gomez) at hitting LHP, Gomez is a 4th/5th outfielder. His defense is elite but I don't think there is a big gap between elite defense and above average defense. We keep hoping Gomez will put it to together but at this point I think he is what he is. A guy who has all the tools but only has plate discipline in short stretches here and there. Just enough to fool our manager into thinking he should bat in the top of the order. Just enough to give fans hope that he can improve. I wouldn't give him a contract with Schafer in the minors.
  12. and he took a good step forward after that was posted. I am sure there will be a new user Power 50 soon. Hard to say where the new guys will fit in until some of our posters see them play for a while.
  13. Do you mean the Power 50 that has not been updated in over a year now or are you talking about the User Power 50 in the MiLB forum.
  14. I don't know how you call what Fiers did in AAA this year so-so. The ERA wasn't great but given the sample size the results could easily not match up with his actual pitching. All the secondary stuff looks pretty good.
  15. I would love to get Greinke back in the offseason but for no more than 5/$100 and even then I am more than a little uncomfortable. Melvin has said all the right things about needing to use young players. Now we have to see what his actions are.
  16. Off topic but JJ had pretty good range because he had a good first step. He was slow but has great instincts.
  17. Very much looking forward to Borderlands 2.
  18. I think you are pushing your feelings off on the team. Bad teams are always accused of quitting/playing without energy. We saw the same thing earlier this year when the team was really bad. I am sure we will see some posts about it in the next week as trades are made.
  19. Sure he can but that is not how our manager will use him.
  20. Once a guy hits 25 in the minors he obviously turns into a pumpkin. No good player has ever been in the minors once they turn 25.
  21. Managing the bullpen is one of the few areas that a manager can actually control in a game. The bullpen is bad this year, but RRR is horrible at bullpen management. He isn't good, but He isn't the worst. His problem is that he is to rigid with bullpen roles. I can understand that with the 9th inning. That is just how MLB managers are(not that I agree or think it is good). I think that is his problem overall at managing. He gets it in his head what should be done in any given situation instead of playing matchups or being flexible. It makes him predictable.
  22. You can forgive a manager for the pen when it stinks like it does this year. The bunting and other meddling with the offense on the other hand is inexcusable.
  23. I wouldn't count on that. If he hasn't learned by now, I don't think he ever will. I couldn't care less if a player can bunt or not. I want to see what the guy cvan do. That means letting him hit. He is referred to as TPoT on another forum. I believe it means Twenty Pitches of Terror. I was a little unsure about Axford and K-Rod at the beginning of the season. They both seemed to lack clean innings last year. Of course most relievers probably don't have to many clean innings so that is probably another one of those things people always say about their own players.
