  1. That is only half of what they need to do to build a strong franchise though. We can't spend a ton of money year after year. The Gallardo and Lucroy deals in particular are not all that great. They didn't really get those guys for much longer than they already had them. You need more than a handful of guys to build a team. Other than the Braun deal, none of those will help much a few years from now.
  2. 66 pitches is plenty for a guy pitching on his off day. Especially after that long 1st inning.
  3. For the better or worse though? I agree with trading for CC and Greinke. I think you have to go for it if you are close. Last year I think we were a really good team. We are not as good as we were last year and I think we should have been in sell mode since the middle of May. I also agree that the current problem lies with not drafting well over the last few years almost as much as trading away a lot of talent. Melvin/Mark A. have been good for the franchise but they have not done much to build it up for long term success. I think they have an opportunity to do that this year. I will be very disappointed if they try to go for it like the Astros did for years and years.
  4. How much do you honestly think will change with a new GM? I feel a lot of what Melvin does is owner driven. Not necessarily every move but the general philosophy behind how things are done.
  5. So Gomez...who should be hitting 9th on AAA teams, hits leadoff in the majors and you defend it? Hopefully he turns a corner and becomes adequate. But he hits worse than a catcher. Here's hoping Morgan continues his OBP increasing so that he shows he's the best option in CF. He is except against LHP. When there is a LHP on the mound Morgan is almost/as bad at hitting as Gomez is. Gomez provides better defense though. Gomez is a 4th outfielder if you have a right handed CF that can hit at all.
  6. I remember I didn't want him pitching during the All-Star game.
  7. I agree with you on a lot of things but I don't believe this at all. You didn't like the CC trade or the Greinke trade. How can you state you will fight to the bitter end but dislike going for it in some years?
  8. My wife keeps drinking all the Black Top.
  9. I seem to remember he had some nagging injuries at the All-Star break yet he continued to pitch through the whole season. He was a horse and probably did himself harm by pitching the second half of the 2008 season.
  10. Wow, just watched the game recorded. I was shocked Greinke was ejected. I am not upset he was but I don't think he should have been. Bad call but I can see why he was ejected. I don't think Greinke was upset with the umpire. Guys get ejected for spiking their helmets. Pretty similar situation. There is zero reason to put Gomez in the top of the lineup. Gomez is a defensive specialist. Weeks or Hart would be a much much better option. Gomez is a 6-8 guy. No OBP skills. His skills play much better as a small ball guy.
  11. I have felt that way for a few weeks now. It is nice to see Maldanado though. The worst part is that I don't think we even have much in the way of young players to look forward to like we did back then.
  12. Gamel can't be traded. He's on the DL. I wouldn't put it past Melvin to trade for a reliever if our record doesn't get worse.
  13. It makes me think Melvin(or his dark overlord) will look at this game and think all we need is a bullp[en arm and we are right in this thing when in reality we are a very flawed team with a lot of ground to make up.
  14. Sure we won but it is not good that our bullpen blew a 7 run lead. I guess some people can feel good about winning like that. I don't. I care about winning in the long run. I always hope we can get back into the race and go to the playoffs but this win does nothing to make me think we have a good team.
  15. Mostly because hiring managers in baseball is an old boys club where they just hire former players who believe in the same crap ways to play the game that they have for 100 years.

  17. I want Yuni back to play CF. At least our manager realized he should bat in the bottom of the order.
  18. You forgot Bianchi.
