  1. Of course it's not his fault we are as bad as we are right now. He might even be a good manager for a team like we have right now. If he really is a good player's manager. Kind of hard to tell right now. The only adversity they faced last year was a kind of slow start within his grace period early in the year. Even during Weeks injury last year they played really well so it was easy. They are facing a really tough time right now for the first time. Since we are not really playing for the playoffs this year(my opinion) I am not as concerned with the few extra wins a decent manager would get for us. That in now way means I think he is a good manager. As long as he starts getting some of the younger players more playing time so we are prepared for the future we are ok with him as a manager. I have no faith we will see that though. That may be a directive from the front office though. It is really hard to separate where the owner's, GM's and manager's decisions leave off. I have a feeling that "going for it" is a directive from on high(Mark A.). I also have a feeling as long as there is some sliver of hope to make the playoffs, nothing is going to change. The "we are winning so he is a good manager" argument was used quite a bit last year. This year we are seeing "there are a lot of injuries, what is he supposed to do." I don't know if it is the same people though.
  2. I believe hi is doing the best he can. I also believe the best he can do is still substandard.
  3. Neither are the Brewers. It makes no sense to buy, especially bullpen arms that always cost more than they're worth. Just piling on here. One bullpen arm isn't going to turn our season around.
  4. He really didn't. He had a fantastic team that went on a good run in July/August. He gives away outs like they don't matter. Has some weird man love for Gomez. He sticks with guys way to long that are unproven. He consistently plays veterans over more talented younger players. Those things cost you games. I actually think he is the perfect manager for this team though. We no longer have playoff aspirations and the players like him.
  5. Let's see 1B - Gamel SS - Gonzalez, Maysonet, Ransom(not ideal but the last 2 won't hurt us much) CF - Morgan, Gomez, Aoki, Schafer. The only thing I see keeping us from contending next year is signing Greinke and a big bounceback from the pen.
  6. I know. I love having such a good offense that we can give up a spot in the order for a guy like Gomez.
  7. There is no way we would go with another catcher for Wolf like we did last year.
  8. How about putting a guy on the DL. Ramirez obviously can't run. Not that he could when not injured but now it is just painful to watch. We are not competing this year. Time to cut our loses and work for next year. CL Braun also while we are at it. Bring up Schafer and play Green Schafer full time somewhere to see what we have with them.
  9. That lineup would look much better with a little Green.
  10. I love low scoring too. A lower run scoring environment makes small ball a good strategy.
  11. I don't see how this contract illustrates any such thing. We're in the top 10 in payroll, have a lot of money coming in, and it's LA. We couldn't and shouldn't extend a contract like this to a player of his level. Yes we are #10 right now but the next 6 teams are Chicago(both teams), Minnesota, Los Angeles, New York and Atlanta. Since we overextended ourselves for this year there is no way we keep up a payroll like we currently have so we will easily fall behind those guys by next year. I wouldn't be surprised to be passed up by Washington either. We have probably squeezed almost every single penny we can out of our market and the best we can hope for is a middle of the pack payroll in most years with a few break the budget years. This will nly get worse as we see more contracts like this and teams get bigger TV contracts. I have little doubt that within a few years we will be back to having one of the worst TV contracts in baseball. Until there is more revenue sharing we will continue to be the have nots.
  12. No runs here would be a nightmare. It would just encourage our manager to play more small ball.
  13. This shouldn't be surprising since he finds it hard to sit by and not do anything when our offense isn't struggling.
  14. So the manager put Hart #5 so he can get more RBI instead of putting guys with good OBP in front of Braun and Ramirez. The worst part about our offense is a poor OBP. Let's spread out the guys who can get on base instead of bunching them all together so our batting order will have balance.
  15. I remember a some point it was stated that the MLB salaries only account for half a team's expenses. I can't remember where though. I wonder what Miller Park's electric bill is.
  16. Gomez is not a good hitter and is hitting about as well as can be expected. You can't make any judgement of the subs based on stats because of the sample size. Hart is underachieving a little bit but not much. Ramirez' line isn't to far off especially considering his start to the year. Morgan and Weeks are the only 2 that should be doing a lot better. No way I blame a hitting coach for that kind of stuff though.
  17. Probably a better hitter than Hart.(his home stadium and in general the NL West stadiums are all pretty tough on hitters.) Seems like a bad contract for a guy who turned is already 30. This contract also illustrates that even though we have a $100m payroll, we are still the have nots.
  18. I know Craig Counsell played on a few WS teams but I wouldn't consider him an elite SS.
  19. I don't think any Brewers fans are cheering for Gobias on this one. Even Gobias.
  20. If they played the same position, no but with defense and position Tulo absolutely makes up for the difference in OPS. Tulo plays one of the hardest defensive positions while Braun plays one of the easiest. Tulo is as rare or rarer talent than Braun.
  21. It's like Saving Private Ryan if the movie was 10+ hours long.
  22. Good luck finding a point to stop watching so you can get some sleep.
