  1. I think you are right. It was the radioactive scorpion that bit Braddock. That is where the fault lies.
  2. The Brewers always hit better when things warm up and balls start flying out. That's the story I am sticking to. I don't care if it is true or not.
  3. So basically random variance and small samples make it look like we are not hitting well.
  4. I doubt Brandon Boggs 379 MLB PA are a true representation of his talent. Break that down into splits and it is pretty much useless.
  5. Hasn't there been studies done that showed lineups have very little effect on the outcome of games? Seems silly to fret over insignificant things to me. It does make a difference though. I believe it was something like 2-3 wins on average. If it was just a few games it would be one thing. It has been almost a quarter of the season with pretty consistent bad moves. Gomez 5 spots to high in the order is blatantly bad. Most of the studies compare optimal to typical. Gomez #2 is not even as good as a typical lineup. I know, "he hasn't had a full roster." Even with the roster he has been dealt, his decisions are still not good. It may or may not have cost us a game at this point. That really isn't the point though. He is making less than optimal decisions and while that may be true for most managers his lineup decisions are blatantly bad so far. If the decision making continues as it has it will cost us games going forward.
  6. I think we can safely say DM and RRR don't view defense as that important. I think that is a mistake but hard to argue when the outfield defense didn't hurt us and Kotsay contributed on offense more than Gomez likely would have. We didn't lose a game because of the outfield defense in the last 2 but I think it is wrong to say it didn't hurt us. There were at least 2 balls that dropped for hits that Gomez more than likely could have caught in the last 2 games. Lets just give it some time to see what happens when all the players are available and the season wears on. I will change my mind if he starts making good decisions but he has time after time after time made less than optimal decisions. I will excuse the base running as a learning curve. I will excuse the bullpen management because I think when the pen pitches well you look like you are using it well and when it doesn't you look like a boob. The lineup on the other hand, not so much. There are clear good and bad decisions to be made and DPR has made the bad decisions way more often than the good ones.
  7. That's not cool dude. Don't dis Like.
  8. I think we need a new nickname for Roenicke. I vote for Westley or Dread Pirate Roenicke. I find myself saying inconceivable a lot.
  9. I want to like Ron. Really I do but he needs to go at least a few days without saying or doing something that makes me shake my head. I was starting to come around on the guy Tuesday but here we are 2 Kotsay in CF days later and I am liking him less and less.
  10. If Kotsay is relegated to just pinch hitting against RHP I wouldn't have as much of a problem. The only problem I have is that Boggs is still probably as good hitting as Kotsay with the added benefit of being able to play defense. If we didn't have a better option Kotsay would be fine. As it is we have Boggs, Morgan(when he comes back), and Gamel in AAA. I prefer Gamel stay in AAA though. I hope when(if) Gamel comes up for inter-league play he actually gets a chance to play instead of Kotsay.
  11. With the platoon advantage a player should hit much better than average. For example, Hart's splits vs LHP .346/.488/.834 vs RHP .316/.465/.781. You will probably find a much bigger difference if you looked at players like Braun of Fielder. The fact that Kotsay is below average with the platoon advantage is pretty strong evidence that he is a bad hitter. With the platoon advantage he should be at least average. Lat year he hit like Gomez with the platoon advantage. Seeing as how he hasn't hit well since 2004 I think we can safely say that it is more than a down year. He has been bad with horrible years sprinkled in. It does when there are better options. Boggs is a better option than Kotsay. If we were talking about a guy who had success a year or two ago you might have a good point about his production. We are not though. We are talking about a guy who hasn't hit well in over half a decade.
  12. That is as far as you really need to go. That is all most people are really concerned with. He will not keep up that .378 OBP. He only had a .320 OBP over 2008-2010. That was hitting a large majority of the time with the platoon advantage. His wOBA's since 2005 are .321/.315/.253/.316/.309/.297. That is Gomez/Betancourt territory. He only had 173.2 innings in the field over 2009-2010. He has 165 this year already. He hasn't been a positive defender since 2004. I am fine with unpopular positions(I did argue Gamel over McGehee at 3B before the year). He had a good game last night and I will cheer for him as a Brewer but there is no way to he should be on the roster let alone actually playing in the field. That isn't my understanding of the methodology. They don't make a decision of should or shouldn't have made a play. They chart where a ball was hit to, how hard it was hit and whether the player made the play or not. That information gets plugged into buckets and the defense stats get calculated from there. I think that is how it works.
  13. Let's see, Wolf has a good amount of money so he would be considered eccentric instead of crazy.
  14. Heck no. Extra inning losses that burn up the pen causing a ripple effect for the next week.
  15. I did so by showing others who are unquestionably good managers who do similar things on occasion as to why I give the benefit of a doubt to Ron Whether LaRussa is a good manager or not is opinion. The difference between a good manager and a bad one is managing a good team. Then again I should have just shut up and let people think what they may about my statement. After Kotsay's night I would look a lot smarter today.[Laughing] Yeah it definitely worked out last night. I still think it was a bad decision though because if RRR made that same decision it would backfire more often than it would work.
  16. Alright I have to ask...Are you Ron Roenicke? What about that comment defended or thought it was a good idea to play him in center last night? I was agreeing with the general populous this is becoming more regular than I like. Geez. I didn't get that impression from the previous statement. It sounded more like you were defending Ron's decision to play Kotsay in CF. You drew parallels between a manager you think is good and Runnin' Ron.
  17. I just saw that on Facebook. Sounds like something that would help my beer making. Help me familiarize myself with different hops.
  18. Always easier to make judgement after the fact, but just because you said you would have done something differently doesn't mean your decision would have worked any better. Most of these criticisms are made as things happen or before. Not after. Go look in the lineup thread to get a good feel for how many people think a lineup should be set up. Much of the lineup stuff people made up their minds on before the season started.
  19. Not good. Either one. Sorry I can't be more specific but I forgot why I didn't like them. I will not be buying them again.
  20. Hart #2, Gomez #8. I have minor quibbles with how #6-8 are lined up but nothing worth getting into specifics about. I can live with this lineup.
  21. I heard Homer use it in a very early interview with Ronald. Homer was asking him which nickname he liked. I have also run across it on Brewcrewball so I believe it is pretty widespread.
  22. The title of this thread should be "I Want To Like Carlos Gomez But Runnin' Ron Keeps Batting Him #2."
  23. Don't kiss it.
  24. We know it is possible. The question is "is it probable?"
  25. 99% of the problem is RR batting him 2nd. If RR recognized the blatantly obvious and batted his defensive specialist 8th, I think fans could better appreciate his positives.Bingo. Most of the dislike for Gomez this year revolves around him hitting #2. But is it Runnin' Ron proof. Anybody who can get on base will score runs in front of Braun and Fielder. That is like giving McGehee a lot of credit for getting a lot of RBI's behind Braun and Fielder. We heard the same crap a few years ago when somebody asked Melvin about Weeks batting lead-off.(or it might have been Yost.)
