  1. That is why a reliever should have been up right away just in case Votto came up. We need a LOOGY. Baker did us the favor of stacking his two best left handed batters back to back and we have no way to make him pay.
  2. Fangraphs has a middle infielder trade article on their site.
  3. It may be a little early to start thinking about the All-Star team but Weeks is currently trailing Brandon Phillips by 300,000 votes. Weeks is a better hitter and has been for years. Head and shoulders better. With Utley out I think Weeks is clearly the best 2B in the NL. Outside of Braun I don't think we have another player more deserving of being an All-Star. Fielder is good but there are a lot of good hitting 1B.
  4. Morgan #2 against RHP is probably the best choice. Weeks Morgan Braun Fielder Hart McGehee Betancourt Lucroy Pitcher
  5. Not quite as good on D is giving Kubel way to much credit. He looks like a left handed bat. I would rather have him than Kotsay but that ain't saying much.
  6. The best thing for the SS position would be to limit the number of PA against RHP and time on defense from Betancourt. Counsell is almost exactly what we are looking for. I agree that provided he can start 2-3 times a week he should be. If he can't, hang en up.
  7. Dread Pirate Roenicke. He makes a lot of inconceivable moves.Yargh. Now I'm really lost. How do inconceivable moves make him a pirate? The Princess Bride
  8. Still in the mix. Oh brother. I, again, want to just chalk this up to manager speak. I will say this about DRP, he doesn't usually say things he doesn't believe. Not necessarily a mark in his favor in this case.
  9. Bill said something negative for once and I missed it? I'll have to switch from gameday, I was watching a movie. No, Brian did. He criticized the lack of range on defense.
  10. Woah there BA. You can't say negative things about the defense like that.
  11. I don't mind it. They are not using that part of the screen anyway and it makes Bill sound even more like a boob.
  12. A lot of SABR terms are not in Firefox either. Lots of red comes up on these forums. I had to edit my BrewBerry's dictionary. Every time I typed "HR", it would change it to "hour". JaDerHeyski kept getting confused when I would send her a "The Brew now have 3 hours today!" message. The brewing website I post on actually has a lot more things come up as misspelled. I am still kind of not happy Mace Windu goes out like such a punk. I can't believe his death was that weak.
  13. I think we as fans we are entitled to a desire for that talent to be somewhat maximized though. Actually as fan we possess no entitlements what-so-ever. Gotta disagree on this one. We are in fact entitled to our desires. We are not entitled to have those desires fulfilled. Winning does not mean good choices were made.
  14. With the defensive metrics I think the fault lies almost 100% with the input. Garbage in garbage out. They are miles better than fan opinions but still imperfect. If FieldFX ever goes public I think that will get those defensive stats closer to offensive stats pretty quick.
  15. I think it takes 2 years into account so McGehee may not be a big stretch. 2B, 3B and SS all get lumped together. Kind of gives 3B a big boost if they are halfway decent on offense.
  16. Just wanted to point out that one of the most hated position players on this team would be a type A free agent at this moment Kotsay or Betancourt are type A's? Those really are the only to players I see much dislike for. Even the dislike for Kotsay has more to do with the manager's usage of him. I don't think anybody really dislikes Gomez. They just dislike him batting #2. The complaints about Gomez pretty much disappear when he hits in the lower part of the order.
  17. Mauer is a career .885 OPS, .381 wOBA hitter. I doubt Gamel projects that well. Of course he would be far less valuable as a 1B. Every player's value diminishes when they move down the defensive spectrum unless they gain a lot from improved defense. That is almost as good as Braun and Fielder. Morneau is probably the highest I would feel safe projecting Gamel. Gamel isn't a power hitter either. He is probably more the Overbay type with slightly more power. More of a doubles hitter who will carry a good OBP. Taking contracts into consideration, sure Gamel is a better choice but to say he can match or beat the production of Mauer or Morneau is a stretch in my opinion.
  18. I don't. Offenses go into slumps. Players will eventually pull out of them. No reason to take the bat out of the hands of a good hitter. Hopefully at some point DPR will figure things out and the string of excuses will stop.
  19. I think Gamel is a better guy to replace Fielder than anyone on the Twins. Except for Mauer or Morneau.
  20. In defense of Roeincke there, guys like Morgan and Gomez have a decent chance at any time to turn a sac bunt into a hit given their speed, especially Morgan since he seems to be a pretty skilled bunter. When pretty much anyone else in the lineup puts a bunt down, it's only to advance the runner a base. If Morgan gets a quality bunt down there, he can not only move Weeks to second, he can end up with a hit. I don't really ever watch American League games, so i was expecting mass amounts of bunting from the way some of you guys here talk about the Angels. So far this year though, i haven't seen any excessive amounts of bunting and i don't count Morgan/Gomez the same as other players because of their fabulous speed. Strikes me as a very reasonable decision and with Gomez having such terrible on base skills, a bunt by him at least advances the runner and as i said before, if he gets the bunt in a good spot, it's gravy with a hit. Hart was sac bunting in the first inning in one of his first games back.
  21. Still not used to Morgan actually being with the team. I should have just put CF. I doubt Gamel hits #2 also. I think he would be a really good #2 in our lineup though.
  22. Dread Pirate Roenicke. He makes a lot of inconceivable moves.Seeing as you have to explain what it means every time you use it, not sure it serves much of a purpose. It just means people don't necessarily read every post I make. That is only the second time somebody asked. I am going to keep using it until he starts making more reasonable lineup decisions on a consistent basis. I hope Gamel gets called up to DH for interleague games. I would like to see him bat #2 when he does. Weeks Gamel Braun Fielder Hart McGehee Lucroy Gomez Betancourt
  23. Well that is always a problem with MLB rules. Selective enforcement. Just like the rule that states batters muct be in the batter's box. The only time I remember it being enforced is with Brady Clark.
  24. Dread Pirate Roenicke. He makes a lot of inconceivable moves.
