  1. Cousins has always bee a bad umpire. Not really his fault when we only score a run but he is a really bad umpire.
  2. DM's moves overall were pretty good this offseason. I think the Saito signing was pretty good despite how it looks right now. Didn't cost us much even if he sdoesn't work out. Where DM really messed up was the bench and SS this year. Kotsay and Almonte are a wreck. We have only one back up middle infielder and he really shouldn't play more than 2 times a week. We have quite a few good arms so the pen shouldn't be an issue.
  3. Weeks is arguably worth more since he plays a more difficult position and actually can play close to or average defense. If Braun and Fielder want to reach Weeks level they need to play better defense.
  4. I don't know if this was meant as a joke or not, but this has been most of the crux of the argument right here. People who think strike outs are a bigger deal than they really are and people who place way too much value in AVG. Weeks has always been a pretty good hitter but only a decent player because of his defense. His glove has improved and his power has increased which makes him a really good player who could even take the next step into a great player if he can repeat last year. When was the last time I made an argument for a player based on BA, strikeouts, or RBI?
  5. Not really a fan of Weeks. He strikes out to much and his BA sucks.
  6. If we are to get a bench player we need to look at somebody who can play middle infield positions. We have plenty of corner guys.
  7. I am sure we could get somebody's bench guy for a price.
  8. I think part of the reason we are not seeing more names fro Betancourt replacements is not to many people know or would take the time to know the names of bench players on every single team.
  9. DM said talent would dictate the payroll this year.
  10. You may be right. You asked who would have been a better option though. I disagree that we should just assume Betancourt was the best option available.
  11. Punto is pretty comparable to Betancourt with the bat. Similar wOBA, better OBP, worse SLG. He would have brought better defense. At the very least he could have platooned with Betancourt. Betancourt does 2 things poorly, hit RHP and field. Making him the small half of a platoon would have limited the damage his negative value glove in the field and terrible bat against RHP would do to the team. The whole Betancourt made fewer errors than Escobar ignores the fact that you can't make errors on balls you can't get to.
  12. He has made it clear in interviews his approach has changed. He talked about patience being the thing he has been working on the most. You hear guys say that all the time in Spring Training and early in the season. It makes for a nice sound bite but many times nothing comes of it.
  13. Maybe but I kind of doubt it. The Brewers really don't release guys until the last possible day for the most part. We didn't even need a full time player at SS. We just need to limit the damage Betancourt will do with his glove and hitting vs RHP.
  14. Check the timing of Punto's surgery. We would have gone into camp without Punto. Cruz didn't leave till nearly the end of Spring Training. Punto is also a switch hitter and can play all the infield spots. We don't have a backup infielder besides Counsell right now and we all know Counsell shouldn't play more than twice a week or he will break. Our bench is very poorly set up.
  15. We would have held onto Cruz and probably Betancourt so I doubt Counsell would have had to start more.
  16. How useful are park factors? I know they can also be influenced by the talent of your players. Probably why Miller Park has been mostly neutral since we started having better teams. Braun plays a good portion of his road games in netral or hitters parks while Colorado players play a good amount of their road games in Pitchers parks.
  17. Three heaqded monster at SS of Cruz, Punto and Counsell would have worked.
  18. 100 PA: Contact Rate 150 PA: Strikeout Rate, Line Drive Rate, Pitches/PA 200 PA: Walk Rate, Groundball Rate, GB/FB 250 PA: Flyball Rate 300 PA: Home Run Rate, HR/FB 500 PA: OBP, SLG, OPS, 1B Rate, Popup Rate 550 PA: ISO [/pre]
  19. In this very thread you said that Fielder was way more valuable, and it was not even close. I think that was because their SLG was close to even and Fielder had a higher OBP.
  20. We are starting to get close to being reliable on some stats.[/url] 50 PA: Swing % 100 PA: Contact Rate 150 PA: Strikeout Rate, Line Drive Rate, Pitches/PA 200 PA: Walk Rate, Groundball Rate, GB/FB 250 PA: Flyball Rate 300 PA: Home Run Rate, HR/FB 500 PA: OBP, SLG, OPS, 1B Rate, Popup Rate 550 PA: ISO[/pre]
  21. I think 30 extra games of Braun's special bat is worth quite a bit. I also think that Tulo's numbers are inflated because of where he plays. His splits show that. Braun's numbers at Coor's could be crazy. It is not my love for Braun that is clouding my vision when looking at those facts. Tulo is a far superior defender, but he has missed considerable playing time, and he plays in a hitter friendly park that make. From 2008 to 2010 Braun's road splits are much better than Tulo's. His OPS is .901 and Tulo's is .832. When you factor in a road OPS that is 70 points higher and the injury issues (which a big part of the game) there is no way you can convince Tulo is clearly better. When healthy and playing in their home ballparks sure I guess, but when you look deeper it is not at all as you make it seem That is fine. I disagree. I wish you had posted this first instead of going for the "if you weren't so biased you would agree with me" angle.
  22. There is no "deal" with Braun. I just don't love him as much as everybody else. I am not sure why that is a problem. I am not going around saying things like "I think if you put aside your love of Braun you will see that Tulo is clearly the better player." I think that would be a ridiculous argument. I think I gave a very fair honest assement of Braun. Great bat, horrible defense. Tulo's bat for a SS is special. Brauns bat for a LF is special. Tulo plays average or better defense at a tougher defensive position. Braun plays bad defense compared to a group of bad defenders. If Braun can at some point play average or better defense I will change my opinion.
  23. I admit Braun isn't one of my favorite Brewers. Weeks and Hart are. If you look I picked Braun over Fielder in the other thread. I thnk for the most part I have stayed pretty consistent with how I jusdge players. If you check you will see I also didn't like the Hart deal. Braun's bat sin't replaceable but if his hitting declines a guy with a lesser bat and average or better defense could have made up for most of what we would lose in Braun. My response to this contract should have been 100% predictable.(spelling errors aside) If Braun was a SS I might agree. As it is, he is a crappy defender in LF. No reason to sign a guy into his 30's unless he can pay good defense or you are an AL team.
