  1. Rasmus won't have to do much running. He will probably get benched by LaRussa again.
  2. That is good to hear. Anything keeping Gomez out of CF for us is a positive.
  3. Service time is huge to an organization like Milwaukee. 6+ years of a cost controlled player for 2 of another seems like a bad deal. I would have rather kicked in a couple extra players for more years of control. If Marcum will sign an extension, and there are rumors he might be interested, and this ends up being 4 years of Marcum, I will make a 180 on this deal. Ugh, I think we know that. People just think we gave up to much.
  4. Not the same people. Most people who don't like this deal wouldn't want a Grienke deal for the same reason.
  5. His splits at AAA for 2010: LHP: .234/.337/.416 RHP: .333/.404/.543 Look at his whole MiLB career not just last year.
  6. He wasn't really sent down. He was on rehabilitation assignment.
  7. Some had viable replacements, some didn't. Villy had both and option and a viable replacement. How come Carlos Gomez wasn't sent down? He sucked, had options and a viable replacement.
  8. Not really. Those 2 picks won't even be close to contributing until June 2014 best case scenario. Probably 2015. The problem is that we will only have Marcum for 2 years. Had this trade been done midseason where we were leading our division I would have less of a problem with it than it being done right now because I don't think this makes us playoff contenders. Who was blocking Lawrie? He was slated for AAA next year. We could have easily left Lawrie in AAA all of next year and moved him up when Fielder moved on. Gamel is the blocked prospect.
  9. Draft picks fail at alarming rates. The fact that Lawrie made it through AA and still looks good means he is ahead of most players picked in the first round.
  10. I like this trade if the Brewers are able to extend both Weeks and Marcum That seems like it will make or break this deal along with what we can get for Fielder. If our next move is to flip Fielder for a top bat that can play 3B or a corner OF spot this deal looks pretty good. If we extend Weeks then Lawrie being traded isn't much of a loss. If Marcum can be extended this deal looks ok. If all 3 of those things happen this is possibly a fantastic deal. If Weeks and Fielder leave after his year and Marcum isn't extended this deal looks like complete crap.
  11. I think our best return on Fielder will probably be a good MiLB bat. Maybe that is why Lawrie was traded.
  12. Also, consider the fact that it was his first full season back from Tommy John surgery. In 2009, he tossed just 15.2 innings. So, we should have expected Marcum to probably hit a bit of a wall in 2010 at some point, right? In his first 125 innings, he had a 3.24 ERA. And, sure enough, over the final two months of the season he had a 4.35 ERA, though even that's not bad considering his schedule. (Yankees, Boston x3, Tampa x2, Rangers) That is concerning to me. How much damage if any was done by pitching him that many innings when he experienced a obvious decline in effectiveness?
  13. Of course it is. It is also reasonable to assume that if he is pitching well he will not want to sign an extension. He will be 31 to start the season in his first year of free agency so one chance at a big contract.
  14. I guess the real question is this a move made so Melvin can look better over the next 2 years or is this a good move for the long term heath of the franchise?
  15. I would have rather sent 2 non-Oddorizi pitching prospects to the Jays instead of Lawrie. We are very very thin on hitting prospects especially AA or above.
  16. We know all that. Lawrie has a good enough bat and the athleticism to play 1B, 3B, RF, or LF if he can't stick at 2B. Lawrie is probably slated for AAA in 2011 so being in the majors by June wouldn't be a stretch at all. Weeks doesn't leave until after 2011 if he isn't extended and Lawrie will almost certainly be MLB ready by spring training 2012.
  17. Six years of Lawrie >>> Two years of Marcum Bringing in good pitching is praiseworthy. Giving away your best trading chip for 2 seasons of a solid pitcher isn't. Yes and yes. I don't like this deal. I am not surprised Lawrie has been traded if this is in fact true. Lots of rumors surrounding his attitude. This sucks.
  18. Not when you're the Yankees or Red Sox, they can easily afford to have a lights out closer. Both teams are in business to win titles, not just hope to contend for a playoff berth and a great closer can be very important in that goal. As for his age, did you see his numbers last year? 1.80 ERA .83 WHIP .183 BAA The guy is amazing. He's 40 and pitching as well as he ever has. You are right. Closers are very, very important. That's why the Twins fell completely apart when Joe Nathan got hurt last year. They had no chance to make the playoffs let alone win their division. How many times will a team have to take a good reliever and make him into a serviceable closer before people stop overvaluing the position?
  19. Apparently not fired. Just moved on. Holy crap, October of next year. I have to say that I wish I had not watched an episode yet. I like picking up series like this a couple years in like I did with BSG.
  20. If he walks he walks, but this 'take whatever we can get for him' attitude that seems to be getting more prevalent is off the mark in my opinion. I have no idea where you are getting the notion that "take whatever we can get for him" attitude is prevalent. You may technically be right that it is more prevalent but one person saying it where none had before would technically make it "more prevalent." There have been people who said we shouldn't expect much in return. That is prevalent. I have always said we should eat some or much of Fielder's contract "if the return is right."
  21. We would have been better off keeping Hardy. That wasn't really an option considering how we treated him and Escobar was expected to be much better. Comparing our SS situation in 2009 to 2010 isn't useful or accurate. They were not the same situations at all. Based on performance alone, the move made in 2009 and lack of a move being made in 2010 made sense.
  22. Have you looked at Cruz' stats? He stunk this year in AAA. .309 OBP. Escobar had a good year in AAA last year while Hardy stunk. Escobar and Cruz both bad this year. Cruz is a terrible hitter. There is no reason to let him ever play for us again except we have absolutely nobody at SS in the minors. Add in that Escobar was a highly touted prospect and that Cruz is nothing more than minor league filler and there is no reason to promote Cruz. 2010Escobar .288/.326/.614Cruz AAA .309/.414/.723 2009Hardy .302/.357/.659Escobar AAA .353/.409/.762
  23. Honestly we should be looking to pay most of Fielder's salary if we trade him. As long as the return is good.
  24. Is it odd that I am looking forward to a Fielder trade? I feel stagnation with the current Brewers team and feel that post Fielder will be the next step to building a better team.
