  1. The guy goes from thought of as a possible closer to being a possible non-tender and traded. I think he got misused by Macha. He had a few bad games and got buried. Macha was ok overall with the bullpen but ha had a bad habit of letting guys rot on the bench so they were rusty when needed.
  2. You'd need to find a RH swinging half of a platoon, but those guys shouldn't be too hard to find at 1B/the corner spots. Corey Hart.
  3. His old agent took a job as the Suns GM.
  4. My mistake. I still think that is a ridiculous amount to pay a reliever let alone one in his 40's.
  5. I dont mean to sound like a jerk but who else would have paid a 41 year old closer $30m over 2 years? Maybe it isn't about the money but that is still a lot of money for a closer let alone one that age.
  6. After that final game of the season, however, Prince made comments on how great his teammates were, how great the Milwaukee fans were, and how he liked playing in Milwaukee. Almost every player says that or something very similar when they are in Fielder's position. CC and Lee both said something similar just before they left.
  7. I wouldn't have given Hart that contract in the first place and he is one of my favorite players. He is pretty easily replaceable.
  8. Scott Boras does what is good for Scott Boras. That is getting the biggest contracts possible for his guys. Of course Boras works for Fielder. That comment tells us nothing until we see Fielder sign. Maybe Fielder told Boras to get the biggest contract possible and to wait and try free agency. Maybe Fielder said to get every single penny out of the Brewers he can. He obviously didn't tell him to take a team friendly contract so he could stay in Milwaukee.
  9. What, no string cheese?
  10. No but it does negate the downside of letting him go.
  11. Minor League minimum salary (for players on 40-man rosters for at least the second year or for players with at least one day of major league service) 2009: $65,000 2008: $62,500 2007: $60,000 2006: $54,500 2005: $52,600 Under the 2007-11 CBA, the new minimum for a player placed on the 40-man roster for the first time is $30,000 (50% of minor league minimum). Per Cot's
  12. If Braun was a SS I might agree. As it is, he is a crappy defender in LF. No reason to sign a guy into his 30's unless he can pay good defense or you are an AL team.
  13. Very true. They are adjunct alcohol. Mostly made with rice and corn with very little barley. After talking with a relative this weekend I am not sure how much if any hops is actually in any of them either. He said they used hop extract because it wouldn't skunk like hops do. In the case of Miller Lite they make a 9% abv "beer" then cut it about 50/50 with carbonated water. Most commercial beer is made to be as inoffensive and flavorless as possible to appeal to as many people as possible.
  14. She is serious and stop calling her Shirley.
  15. If you really wanted to be unique you would cheer for Northwestern.
  16. Bratwurst from Hoff's.
  17. You are pretty much ok as long as you are not wearing the other team's colors.
  18. Cheese. New Glarus beer better than Spotted Cow.
  19. Wolf also deferred money last year making the payroll look higher than it actually was. We will have to pay him back and that will be figured into the budget but not show up on the payroll. Realistically our opening day payroll was around $86m in 2010. A drop to the low 80's isn't much of a drop off from 2010. I wouldn't be to shocked if our opening day payroll was in the high 70's around $78m. So start at $86m take a little off for paying back some of Wolf's deferral and a little more for an anticipated drop in attendance. Not sure how they will budget for having a possible sandwich pick for Hoffman.
  20. I think you are right. All bonuses have to be playing time type stuff. I have never actually read anything about it anywhere outside of a message board though. Maybe peruse Cot's contracts. You may have to actually go through the CBA.
  21. He started out really crappy but had a few good games to get up to a .364OB and .750ish OPS. I guess he just needed a few hits here and there to improve.
  22. I would like to see them do about 6 weeks on one brewery and then move on. Ommegang's abbey(Ommegang) and saison(Hennepin) are pretty good. I don't like the coriander in wits. Wit general being a wheat beer flavored with coriander and orange.
  23. Optional Waivers Optional major league waivers are required when optioning a player who has options remaining but who is more than three calendar years removed from his first appearance on a Major League roster. Because optional waivers are revocable, players usually clear in this scenario. We just saw this happen last year with Bush and this year with Villanueva.
  24. So I have a coworker who's son is trying to get a baseball scholarship to play somewhere. We have discussed several times what might happen if his son gets drafted. His son won't get drafted but he has several colleges interested. Anyway we were talking an got around to looking up what a minor leaguer actually earns. The only information we could find seems to be that first year players in the minors get a salary of $850 a month and only for the months they are playing. Is that true because if it is that seems criminal? Something like $5.31 an hour for 4 weeks at 40 hours. $20 a day while on road trips. Obviously a lot depends on what you sign for. What are players paid in the minors? It seems like until you are put on the 40-man roster you are only given a pittance.
