  1. I am not sure it was the shenanigans so much as the fact the team has been pretty much out of it the entire year. It is hard to have fun when you are losing a lot. I admit I had little or no enthusiasm for this team right from the start this year. It was even commented on by my brother in law. They got off to a bad start and I became even less enthusiastic.
  2. I don't think these guys are going to be starters. - Angel Salome - Maybe if he was still a catcher but I am not sure he has a future with this organization. I think his best hope is to get picked up by another team. He passed through waivers earlier this summer. - Luis Cruz - career minor leaguer. He is already 26 and will be 27 before the start of next year. This year was his bes MiLB season and he only hit .309/.414/.723. I think he makes Escobar look like a slugger. - Taylor Green - I hope he develops but he seems too have stalled. Mostly because of injuries. He just asked to be tried out at catcher. I think he has been passed up by other players. Some of the other guys you listed are not even above A+ ball and it is just to early to tell yet.
  3. I wouldn't say exactly. Talent wise maybe but I think we need a guy who will be around more than a couple years. We are not exactly overflowing with pitching talent right now or in the near future. I would not pin my hopes on him wanting to stay just because he had some anxiety problems. Time and again we have seen guys go where the money is.
  4. Now we've drafted a lot of pitching, which is needed, but will we now experience a drought in home-grown position players? How many times will this pendulum swing back and forth before we achieve some kind of balance? We don't have any Fielder level bats in the system but we have several guys who should at the very least be average hitters in the majors. Lawrie and Gamel should be ready very soon but it looks like there is a year or two gap after those two. We would have some kind of balance right now if every top pitcher, other than Gallardo, taken over the last 6 years had not been delayed or flamed out for one reason or another.
  5. Well I think Gomez has had a few months already to prove he doesn't belong. If they are going to use part of this last month and next spring training to determine Gomez belongs, I have no faith whatsoever in the current decision makers. The guy has sucked, sucks and will continue to suck. No reason to let him have another MLB at bat in any capacity except as a bench player.
  6. Why is Gomez playing again? I have had enough of that guy to last several lifetimes. Why don't they bring back Patterson while they are at it.
  7. I have not yet received my copy of Reach yet. I am to cheap to pay for shipping. Honestly I am most looking forward to the upcoming Borderlands DLC. I just can't put the game down. I will probably wait on Fable and Fallout for a few months.
  8. My only problem with Wolf is he needs to work with Lucroy. I think they can iron things out given time. Lucroy got thrown to the wolves.
  9. I have yet to see a name I like. I don't have any name in mind but I don' think we should be hiring somebody else's failed manager.
  10. A lot of the things Petterson supposedly implemented were already in place. That is why he signed with us. I am not sure if his job is in jeopardy but I don't think he deserves to much credit either. Has a Brewers pitcher starting pitcher under-achieved? Has any pitcher improved?
  11. This is wrong. Escobar played 147 games and compiled 555 at bats last season between Nashville and Milwaukee and then played for Cardenales de Lara in the Venezuelan Winter League where he played 45 more games and got 173 more at bats. I hate when guys who are going to be full time players for our MLB team play winter ball. I hope Escobar doesn't play this year.
  12. I don't think playing the whole year in the majors this year is necessarily helping Escobar's development but there really was little reason to leave him down in AAA this year. I like holding guys back a little to preserve service time and I have little doubt that he will be much more valuable in 2016 than he is this year. I really don't believe in having a guy repeat AAA just for service time considerations. If we had kept Hardy Escobar in AAA wouldn't be a terrible option.
  13. From a numbers standpoint it is pretty minimal. 4.05 ERA to 4.14 ERA. All that could mean overall is that there are better pitchers and batters in the AL. I think the perceived gap is because of being able to face a non-hitter once through the lineup(the pitcher). However that guy is usually replaced late in games with a guy who will generally have a platoon advantage against the pitcher. What appears to happen in my observation is that a weak hitter is put in the lineup on AL teams for their defense thus you see that NL teams will generally have a better hitter on average at each position. If you look through the splits what you will see is that the NL hitter is either close to or better than the AL hitter at a similar position. In fact they are relatively close except at C, 3B and SS where the NL hitter is at least 20 points of OPS better. 51 points of OPS at SS!
  14. For Rogers to add a win over 2 months he would have to be about a run and a half or ERA better than the guy he replaces. 1 run of ERA is about 2 wins over 180 innings. If we for some reason get off to a really good start I would fel more urgency to bring him up. To me it really does come down to value and money. We can't afford to pay good players so service time is huge for us. 2 months of even a 5 WAR player is only slightly more than a win. Rookies typically don't have that kind of impact so a year of service time or value in a trade a few years down the road is worth much more than a win this year. Unless a guy has spent the whole previous season in AAA, I think they, and more importantly the team, can benifit from at least 2 months in AAA. If we are an 85 win team going to 86 does increase our chances but I would rather use op service time chasing win 89+ than win 86.
  15. He can learn in AAA for a couple months instead of skipping it completely. Missing a couple months of next season spending it in AAA won't hurt him. And That I will get back to you as I have an answer but not the time to type it right now.
  16. Our team as built was a just over .500 team this year. That was assuming Hoffman, Parra and Davis didn't completely fall on their face which they did. Getting a good pitcher will go a long way towards being better but that probably only puts us at around 83-85 wins. 2012 is when we should have some Impact Talent™ coming up in Lawrie and Odorizzi. At that point we should start to see a shift from an average team to a really good team. Rogers' value in 2016 should be much more than chasing a marginal win in 2011.
  17. It has been brought up before usually in conjunction with lineup optimization. Piggybacking uses up a pitcher who might not otherwise have to be used. Both guys would be unavailable for the day before and the day after at the very least. I don't think it would work until September after rosters expand.
  18. I can't wait to see how the FO spins this one. This feels like going to prom with your sister.
  19. All the shows I like have a summer and early spring season. Most are done with their first round of episodes already.
  20. I just wish we didn't have to give him up so often for weekend games.
  21. As long as our schedule is easier in 2012. I think 2011 is a development season anyway.
  22. Escobar #2 and Gamel #6. Only one game I know but not a good call on that one.
  23. I'll pass on the obvious conflict here (i.e. the effects of smoking marijuana on a person) and point out that marijuana is still illegal. Getting arrested for possession can effect a persons career also. For some reason, people focus on drug testing in the MiLB and forget about the legal ramifications. It sure killed Lincecum's career.
