  1. If anyone in that lineup should be batting 9th, it's Escobar. Did Escobar have another good week hitting again? He starts to pop up on top of lineups every so often when he has a good week.
  2. But shouldn't Melvin have called other GM's to "bring his name up," rather than calling the paper to joke about no one else bringing his name up? Why is this assumption made? Do you seriously believe that Melvin didn't call teams at all on Bush?
  3. this is pretty ambitious thinking. just look at the language of what you wrote. according to that pitching problems solved we already have our 2nd-5th level starters in the system now with left overs to fight it out of the 6th and 7th fill in slots. I disagree, what we might have is odorizzi and maybe rivas who could be 4th or 5th guys, maybe a 2nd or 3rd for odorizzi, but not "at least". not trying to pick a fight with you, I'm just saying clearly hudson is further along at this point and I think a better effort should of been made to pry him loose from Chicago. Why would we trade guys for a guy who is at best a 4th-5th guy. We have plenty of those guys already in our system. We have Josh Butler who has already pitched in the majors and could easily be called up right now if necessary. We also have several players who will be in AA next year which is also one call away from the majors. We don't need another 4th-5th pitcher. If we are trading for pitchers we should be trading for top of the rotation guys, not back end guys. You said yourself he is a 4th-5th guy. We already have plenty in the minors.
  4. Not sure what to think about this. I would have rather woken up to a Weeks extension but I guess this is ok. Hart is one of my favorite players but I am not sure it is in our best interest to extend him.
  5. Are you suggesting they learned something from batting Gomez #2 for a good part of the season?
  6. I think they are beginning to realize that. They realized that by at least the 2008 draft. At the very least they realized their current way of developing pitchers was flawed in 2008. That is when there was a definite shift in drafting philosophy.
  7. Unless of course you have a left handed lead off hitter. I would agree though, he would be a top of the order guy on almost any club.
  8. If Hart doesn't get traded and Gamel shows something in the outfield, Braun to first base might be the best situation because he still looks terrible in the outfield. I disagree. 1B and 3B are positions where you want guys who are good at reacting and have good fielding instincts. Braun has neither. At least in the outfield his athleticism allows him to make some plays in LF. I don't want him back in the infield and historically bad as a fielder again. At least now he is merely bad.
  9. How would I go for it next year? I wouldn't. I would aim towards 2012 and beyond.
  10. Then no trade. I wouldn't eat a nickel of Fielder's salary. It was absolutely absurd for Houston to make the trades they have made the past few days. The ownership must be hard up for cash or something. They are still paying a lot of salary for the guys they traded.
  11. Looks like they are at least preparing for the future this time. The plan is for Gamel to play RF and 1B the res of this year.
  12. I think they implemented the system a few years back already. You see it in how they have drafted over the last 3 years.
  13. Low 80's probably maybe mid 80's? If everything went right we could have been a playoff team this year. I like Gamel and Cain but Gamel/Cain/one of Berkman/Lee is probably a net loss from the production out of Hart/Fielder/Gomez this year.
  14. The only move that would make any kind of sense would be moving Weeks considering Hart got hurt and lost all his value. Even trading Weeks would be a questionable move since he could possibly be signed to a long term contract for a reasonable price.
  15. A good start is not to buy anything with a player's name on it. I will buy stuff like that for my kids but only because they will outgrow it by the time the player leaves.
  16. Melvin is also frustrated by the number of free agents who engage with the Brewers to drive up their value, then sign elsewhere and include the Brewers in a no-trade clause. Shocking isn't it.
  17. I tried a couple Potosi Brewery beers tonight. Snake Hollow IPA and Pure Malt Cave Ale. I am not going to be a repeat customer. Sorry to say that since they are a nonprofit brewery(from the little information I have). I know Dan Carey recently talked about how important sessionable beer is but I have a hard time buying what he is saying when he keeps making high ABV beers. New Glarus' new Unplugged beer is an ABT(which I beleive is also known as a quadrupel) that comes in at 9.6% ABV. Though I think that is typical for this style.
  18. He played plenty of 2B in the minors.
  19. Gee, I wish our GM had traded a good player for a sucky player and paid the Yankees to take the better player. We could have had Melky Cabrera.
  20. I don't get the impression that other players don't like him at all. He is just not a good player right now. That is why nobody wants to trade for him.
  21. I think we already had a lot of the stuff Peterson wanted to do in place already.
  22. Bell's were the worst by far. New Belgium wasn't to bad. I soaked for 10 minutes then the label peals off pretty easy. After the glue is exposed and soaked for about another 10 minutes it wiped off pretty easy.
  23. Depends what you had to give up. We have quite a few minor league pitcher who will be at least 4th-5th guys.
  24. That better make the top 10 plays. That was fantastic.
  25. I said "decent" and "under control for a few years".Chris Coghlan
