  1. Why in the world do the Royals make a trade like this? Mostly because it makes you look proactive.
  2. Very simply, this rotation has Yo and then a bunch of 4/5 type starters- including Wolf. Nobody above A ball projects into a top of the roation guy. So I'm willing to look at any deal at all that would bring back big time arms. And I would trade Braun, Weeks...anyone if the deal was right. Otherwise, the Brewers will continually be that cute team that hits a bunch of HRs and never wins a Worls Series. For that matter, rarely can even be considered a legit contender You do know we have some pretty decent arms in the minors. They should be ready by 2012. It is pretty easy to jump from AA to the majors.
  3. I would guess the hang up is getting the commissioner's office to ok going over slot value to sign him. I am getting a little antsy to see him signed as well. I wouldn't be surprised to not see it get done until August 15th or a little before.
  4. I think a return similar to the Haren trade is around what we should expect for Fielder. Hopefully with at least one higher upside guy included.
  5. The reason this trade is so bad is because they have the MLB talent to be a good team next year and the fact that Haren is still signed for a good contract with an option through 2013. The players they traded for, at least the ones that actually seem worth trading for, are in A or A+ ball right now. Corbin and Skaggs were both drafted last year 80th and 40th respectively.
  6. We have guys like Lawrie and Salome to acquire promising arms. Solome has little to no value right now. Lawrie is a building block for the future when we have a much better chance to be competitive. Trading Hart and Fielder makes s lot of sense because we will not be good enough to make the playoffs this year or next and we are unlikely to offer them long term contract. Hart because he probably isn't worth it and Fielder because he is asking way to much. Weeks is probably the player with the biggest trade value right now but I get the impression that they will offer him a long term contract.
  7. Doesn't sound like Haren was highly valued by scouts. Obviously Fangraphs has several articles about this trade already.
  8. The return for Haren wasn't really good but it isn't like the players traded for him suck. They are just young and really unproven to this point. Corbin and Skaggs are players we wouldn't have wanted to give up. Skaggs was the 40th player taken in the draft last year.
  9. Except for the Cards are much better than we are and the Reds are at least our equal talent wise. Lots of chances for those teams to bury us.
  10. No thanks. His BB and K rates stink. His BB rate is almost as high as Manny Parra except his K rate is nowhere near as good as Parra. He would be run out of town like Suppan. In fact his BB and K rates are closer to Suppan than Parra.
  11. Sounds like Tyler Skaggs is the PTBNL. I wouldn't mind having a guy like Skaggs in our system. LHP with an 88-92 MPH fastball. They think he can add a little velocity and sit in the low 90's. Nice K/9 and BB/9 rates. MLB draft scouting report
  12. If the Brewers could do what they did in '91, they have a reasonable chance. That team went 40-22 over the last 62 games Doubtful. The Cards and Reds would both have to go .500 for us to beat them even if we went 40-22. I won't even bother going into the WC stuff since there are 7 teams ahead of us that we would have to outplay. We just don't have the pitching for an extended run.
  13. I believe that the Brewers need to sweep the Reds this week to can get back into things- this is their last chance. Their last chance was several weeks ago even though very few people want to admit it.
  14. Still doesn't mean we should pay him. The players we acquire for Fielder plus the money saved are more valuable than paying Fielder. We can't pay him, nor should we, and we are not going to be competitive by the end of 2011. He will probably get something similar to Howard. Howard's contract is 5 years $125M. It is an extension of his current contract. Basically his current contract amounts to 7 years $164M plus $10M buyout and maybe some incentives. 5 years $125M is my guess.
  15. Yeah I looked at their website and found almost nothing in the way of "brew" stuff. Here is a map of beer stuff in he Madison area I found.
  16. Gamel is a better hitter than Heether. Fan observations are generally not a good way to make judgments on players.
  17. Villanueva has to pass through revocable waivers to be sent down.
  18. Pick the team with the most Badgers.
  19. Which means at this point it could still be rust. He has only been back for about 2 months. The shoulder injury in particular was bad timing since it meant he couldn't work on throws. Throwing seems to be his biggest problem.
  20. Gamel was putting in quite a bit of effort on his defense during the most recent spring training.
  21. We are unlikely to compete next year unless we get good players in trade for Fielder and Hart. Our roster needs to change for us to be competitive again. The roster as it stands is more than one or two players away from being a playoff team. Getting a good return for Hart or Fielder hastens our return to being competitive. That along with most of our impact talent probably not being ready until 2012.
  22. Reading the Power 50 write up on Gamel made me chuckle. What a difference a week makes.
  23. Yeah, I like the less sugar.
  24. Already in the Sheets thread.
  25. I do when I keep score in my scoring book. I put is down as a 2F or F2 depending on whether it was fair or foul. Probably also makes a difference in some advanced metrics.
