  1. Kendall is the best or second best FA catcher in terms of OBP. Despite how disappointing Kendall was, I think it will be hard to upgrade at catcher more than minimally on offense without a trade.
  2. That wouldn't be surprising. Console games in general are pretty easy unless you play on the harder difficulties. I will get back when I actually play the game. Looks like they actually made the easy level even easier on the PC. Link
  3. It has been their career years to this point. Expecting them to repeat that year in year out is foolish in my opinion.
  4. Any analysis that concludes a team has "enough" of something is absolute garbage, IMO I like the "They need table setters" line just after that. I really like refering to a guy with a career sub .300 OBP as a table setter.
  5. It makes perfect sense if you consider the fact that we had a top 5 offense with 3 black holes in the lineup last year (JJ, Kendall, Hart when he was off and Cam when he was off). If we can replace Kendall with anything, we have a similar offense as we have another top 5 offense, only an extra 14 mil and a lot of upside in those black holes offensivly and defensivly. No, it doesn't. Yes we were a top 5 offense this year, but we also had career years from Fielder, Braun, and McGehee. Those guys should be expected to get at least a little worse to go along with replacing 2 guys with expected worse offense and a minimal defensive upgrade. That makes our offense worse overall. I didn't expect to get a pitcher that would help us this year for JJ, but I expected to get at least a good player.
  6. I didn't read all the way through here, but people who think we are giving up a lot of offense (especially OPS) need to look at what JJ and Cam did last year vs. what Escobar and Gomez will do this year. Cam and JJ combinded for around a 330 OBP (mostly from Cam). Escobar and Gomez are capable of something similar and both players have a lot of upside. Factor in the cost savings, and while I don't like the trade, I don't hate it either. What we need to do is look at all the players would be expected to do in the future not what they did last year. JJ had a down year and should be expected to hit better than he did in 2009. Why would we look at only JJ's terrible last year to make a decision on him while ignoring the fact that he is more than likely a much better hitter than he was last year. That makes no sense at all. I really dislike this deal. We just made Kendall the second worst hitter in our lineup. I would have rather brought back Corey Patterson than trade for this guy and I hate Patterson. I know we needed a CF for next year since I believe that the Yankees will make a big offer for Cameron but, this trade looks like a waste of resources. Gomez and Escobar should be expected to upgrade our defense minimally if at all. Now we can waste a huge +$!*+ of money on an aging, declining starting pitcher. I would have rather brought up Cain and held onto JJ for picks in a couple years than make this deal.
  7. I apologize for sidetracking, but I would be shocked if Cameron didn't get a big offer from the Yankees.
  8. I got DA:O(360) in the mail today, but I am not sure I will play it this weekend yet. I have heard really good things about it. I heard that on the PC version you have more freedom with the camera and the graphics are much better. That really shouldn't be surprising though.
  9. I finished my first Borderlands play through over the weekend and started a second with the same character. After playing through the second time for a while I decided I wanted to go back and find some of the Claptraps I missed the first time to increase my backpack size. When I went back to the first play through all the weapons and items I gained during the second play through carried over. For those who have finished the game, I read somewhere that the Claptrap you see just before the closing credits is supposedly planned to be part of future DLC.
  10. I think he is referring to the fact that the difference between 62 wins and 65 wins is pretty much meaningless. An extra few wins doesn't really start to matter until you get up around 82 wins.
  11. He batted 7th/8th almost all the time this year and hardly ran at all.
  12. I don't see Escobar getting enough SB attempts to get 42 SB.
  13. I'm not a math expert but the more he spends the more the Brewers will consistently win, and history shows people in Wisconsin go crazy for a winner. Yes all of Wisconsin would go crazy and really support a winner, but there is only so much money to be brought in. Milwaukee, even including the surrounding area, is still one of the smallest if not the smallest market in baseball. A salary cap would still be a bad idea since there would just be a bunch of money going into the owner's pockets. What really needs to be done is more profit sharing amongst the teams. Milwaukee at $95M still wouldn't be able to compete with teams that routinely spend $120M plus. Of course that is ignoring all the other stuff people don't want to acknowledge like better endorsement opportunities.
  14. Braun playing a few more steps back so balls don't go over his head would lead to more falling in front of him. I don't think it is a stretch at all to say more balls fall in front of Braun than the average fielder. Seems like if you play defense for a crappy pitching staff then your metrics are bound to suffer. Brewer pitchers may have given up lots of screaming line drives off the LF wall. Braun couldn't stop them; possibly no defender could, therefore he allowed 15 more runs than an average defender would All bated balls used in UZR are designated as soft, medium or hard. Hard hit balls are accounted for.
  15. An outfielder doesn't have to boot balls to be a bad fielder. Just not getting to as many balls would be enough. If you look at the breakdown of Braun's UZR you see that it rates him very poorly on range and very well(in comparison to other players) on the error portion. 15 runs may be high, but if you ever look at offensive stats really closely, an extra hit a week adds up to about 85 points of OPS. I don't think it would be much of a stretch to say that Braun lets an extra hit fall in front of him or get over his head once a week. An extra ball falling in here and there adds up to quite a big deal over an entire season. I guess my point is that if a seemingly small event(one hit every week) on offense can lead to such a drastic difference(85 points of OPS) over the course of a season, a seemingly small difference in quality of defense would probably show up as a pretty large difference in defense as well.
  16. How many people would agree that there were only 3 other better CF'ers overall? I would. Cam plays good defense and has a really good bat for a CF. I don't think saying Cameron is a top 5 CF is a stretch at all.
  17. A replacement player is usually though of as an average player on defense. Braun isn't a good defender and I am surprised that it is so hard to believe that he was 15 runs below average on defense.
  18. If you are looking into something to try and find something wrong, I think you are going about things the wrong way.
  19. Has anybody played Dragon Age Journeys? It is a free flash game that allows you to earn free items in Dragon Age: Origins when it is released. It is a pretty simple RPG.
  20. You might want to avoid the online play in Borderlands for a bit. There are reports of people losing the weapon proficiencies and skill points. Link
  21. Is there online play? Is it only offline action? Both. You can play by yourself or Co-Op with up to 3 of your friends.
  22. Apparently "be a good umpire" isn't one of the ongoing things for some of them. I think people know that these guys have paid their dues and work very hard. The problem is that some are just not very good and short of retirement or death there is no way an umpire will lose their job.
  23. The CC offer was fair, it wasn't competitive.
  24. Borderlands is in fact a shooter with RPG elements. The quests and character building remind me of WoW although the character building is nowhere as deep. There are way more than 1000 different guns. The guns are randomly generated much like weapons in Diablo or WoW. You could probably play through the game several times and never see the same gun twice. You will probably see similar guns though.
  25. Yup, he's gone. I really don't think the affair hurt his ability to be a good analyst. He was never good to begin with.
