  1. Remember how we won all those 1 run games early last year? This is what it feels like to be on the other side. Nice to see Villanueva pitch more than one inning.
  2. I don' tmiss the venting thread at all. I hope it never comes back. It didn't serve it's purpose in my opinion. The venting spilled out across the whole forum instead of being confined to the designated thread. It invited people to come to the forums and vent then move on and vent in another thread instead of bringing well thought out opinions to the discussions.
  3. Melvin wasn't even able to parlay a guy who got a $100 million contract (which shows he was in major demand) into one player who lasted more than a year and a half with the team. All a contract that big proves is that one team way overvalued Lee. Lee was a rental when we traded him.
  4. Early in his career he was a decent base stealer Hall has never been a good base stealer. He has had only 2 years in his entire career when he had a 70% or better success rate. He has spent most of his career, including the minors, around 50% or worse.
  5. Where did you come up with those career norms for Weeks? He has a career OBP around .350.
  6. Jeffress - we need an infusion of pitching help from the minors Salome - with Kendall presumably gone, we need a catcher next year Lucroy - if both Salome and Lucroy develop we have excellent depth to trade for other needs Escobar - prove 2008 in AA wasn't a fluke, gives us the ability to trade JJ for other needs Lawrie - but not succeed so fast that I don't get to see him play in Appleton
  7. I would take 2008-2009 Rickie on defense. I prefer his 2007 batting stats to either year.
  8. I am neutral on this move. Looks like a move made to appear proactive when there is almost no positive or negative effect.
  9. A 6 game suspension for a starting pitcher is pretty weak. All it does is push his start back a couple days.
  10. Now $200 for a great hitter like Matt Wise would be ok, but Stetter, please.
  11. Oberon Ale is here. I just picked up a 6-pack today. It is going to be a long night at work waiting to try it. Also talked to my beer guy(that's what I call the liquor store owner) and he said that April 24th is the unofficial "kick off date" for New Belgium Brewery in Wisconsin. He also said that might get pushed back, but we should be seeing Fat Tire by May 1st.
  12. I would like to say that I can't believe that anybody would leave their grill out in the open. Especially on opening day where many people show up just to drink in the parking lot. Get enough drunk people in one place and things not locked down are likely to disappear. Even some that are. Of course anybody who steals a grill, well you are a severely substandard human being. I hope you burn yourself using your stolen grill just enough to cause a good scar but nothing life threatening. I also hope the grill starts all your Brewers clothing on fire(but not your home) because I would be ashamed to see you wearing clothing of a team I like.
  13. I think we should move Yo to 1B and trade Fielder for pitching. I mean Gallardo is OPSing 1.750. Fielder has a weak .792. Of course we wouldn't get much in trade for a guy like Fielder. I think it is obvious he has declined as a hitter. He needs to gain some weight so he can hit for more power. This slimmed down Fielder is a weak version.
  14. Well Kendall's OPS in 2006 was .610 with a .301 OBP so its not like he hasn't had issues. True, but even with that bad year factored in he has had on OBP of .334 from 2006-2008.(I think you meant to say 2007) But it seems as though he's been struggling to hit a line drive to the outfield since about the All Star break last year. Funny you brought this up. Many people attributed his poor hitting in the last half of last year to being tired. I wouldn't be upset with the manager giving up the 10 - 15 points of OBP difference between Kendall and Rivera if the hitter represented the tying or winning run. i wouldn't be to happy either.
  15. Just to clarify I wasn't predicting a .330 OBP & .450 SLG from Rivera... just thought a .315 - .320-ish OBP with a SLG north of .400 was reasonable to forecast. You could easily be right. I could be talked into Rivera over Kendall against a LHP. Probably not against RHP though. Kendall is really bad at the plate right now, but we don't know why. There is no reason to expect it to continue that I know of.
  16. I can't imagine Rivera would have much trouble being at least close to that, with a much higher SLG. It would be nice is he did, but over his entire career he has bounced all over with his OBP. Even in his most reacnt decent sample size of AB he had a .272 OBP in 2007 with our AAA team. He had an OBP of .339 in AAA 2006. He has a career AAA OBP of .309. Career MLB OBP of .301. I can easily imagine Rivera having a worse OBP. He doesn't really have enough recent PA to say anything for sure.
  17. Thursday through Saturday should give us a little more to go on with the manager. I would be ok with skipping nobody, skipping Parra or Gallardo to keep their innings down, or pushing Bush back a day and skipping Suppan. I will be irate with skipping Bush in favor of Suppan.
  18. Two more games like this and in my opinion he should go to the pen until the next SP injury. The first game wasn't really that bad. He just got hit. Walking guys like he did on Sunday is completely inexcusable. Once more and it could just be a bad stretch. 3 in a row though is a bit to much. He is our 5th starter no matter where the manager decided to put him in the rotation. He has had bad streaks before and he will again. This one happens to stand out a little more because it is to start the season.
  19. Feelings, nothing more than feelings, Lets give the guy a few more games before making any judgments.
  20. We know that Doug Eddings is still a terrible umpire. We don't know much about the Brewers at this point that we didn't know before spring training. We are beginning to see that Macha is just another manager. We swapped out one set of mistakes for another.
  21. I think we don't know enough about Rivera to decide what kind of hitter he is. He has had success, but not enough plate appearances. Hall, well I still don't trust him against righties. He hasn't hit them worth anything in over 2 years. Kendall has pretty equal platoon split. He has a better OBP(2006-2008) than Rivera(career, not enough PA to use his 3 year). The stats can be disected to support either opinion. I will stick with the sample that seems big enough rather than Rivera's 2006-2008 split. I am sure people who think Rivera is a better hitter will argue that he has improved as a hitter in the last few years and Kendall has gotten worse. I wouldn't argue against that at all. He still has a .331/.340 R/L OBP split. Maybe not, but I'm sure he has the decision of where in the rotation and right now he has Suppan about 4 spots too high. Doesn't matter what order the pitchers are in the rotation. This isn't a batting order where you can easily switch things up. All that matters is whose spot gets skipped in the rotation.
  22. I can see leaving Julio in there to get some innings out of him especially with nobody on. I don't think any of the bench options were better than Kendall except maybe Nelson and he went in for the pitcher. A manager is a manager is a manager.
  23. Pinella has played this like it is the world series, Macha like the games just don't matter That's just keeping an even keeled approach.
  24. I wouldn't mind a 6-4 loss half so much if we didn't walk in 4 of the other team's runs. At least we didn't walk the pitcher. Holy crap is this pen going to be tough to watch this year with Julio and McClung throwing the ball all over the place.
