  1. Thank goodness. Link But as Sveum soon discovered, asking his players to play "small ball" was akin to putting a tuxedo on a hobo.
  2. Don't like that idea at all. Never sign a player unless you intend to keep him for the duration of the contract. Texes ended up paying some of A-Rod's contract every year until he opted out of his previous contract. Texas would have been paying this year even. Edit: Texas agreed to pay $67M of the $179M A-Rod was owed at the time of the trade. Texas was "lucky" A-Rod opted out since it saved them $21M. The paid approx $46M over 4 years for a player that was no longer with them. I would be irate if we ended up in a similar situation.
  3. I am happy we made it in, but don't have much hope we win many games. I would feel a little cocky if our starting rotation had some semblance of order, but it is in shambles right now. We have a starter by committee right now and I am just hoping we don't get swept.
  4. I agree we shouldn't sign him,but it is more the multiple years he is likely to get that would bother me about the contract. If we were talking about 2 years, I think it would be a good deal. When we start getting into those 4+ year deals that is when I start not liking it. I would be really surprised to see less than a 4 year deal for Sheets. Like ennder has stated, his injuries are not really that bad. I just don't like any free agent deals of 3-4+ years. I prefer contracts of that length to be given out to players in their arbitration years. Like it or not, we are always going to have a much smaller payroll than many clubs and the best long term idea is to keep payroll flexibility. The payroll flexability thing really goes for all clubs, but $15M for the Brewers is drastically different than $15M for some of the other clubs.
  5. Ben could wind up accepting arbitration, and coming back here on a one-year deal. I don't expect it, but this turn of events has made it a possibility. If we somehow end up with Sheets on a one year deal, that would be highway robbery on our part. I missed seeing Sheets do interviews this year. That guy is just funny.
  6. Since 2000(including 2000, not including 2008) 8 Wild Card teams have made the World series Only once in that time did a Wild Card team not make the series(2001) 2002 both Wild Card teams made the series Wild card teams are 3-5 in the WS Record of wild Card teams compared to other playoff teams AL 2nd best 2 3rd best 4 4th best 2 NL 2nd best 2 3rd best 3 4th best 3
  7. You don't realize how much you associate a person's posts with a certain avatar until they change it. When people change avatars it always throws me off a bit for a couple days.
  8. I was playing The Force Unleashed and got an achievement called "Worst Day-Shift Manager Ever." I had to stop playing for a bit because I laughed so hard. I thought it was amusing that a reference was made to the Chad Vader stuff(look it up in YouTube, funny stuff and filmed in Madison) in a game made by Lucas Arts. I also enjoyed all the film reference names in Army of Two. "Flip you Flip you for real" and "This is my boom stick" being 2 of my favorites. Has anybody else run across any interesting names for achievements?
  9. I still hate Wes Helms. I may consider not referring to him as Fatty anymore. Still doesn't make up for the 2 game winning hits he had against us last year. If not for that we may have been in the playoffs last year.
  10. I still hate Wes Helms.
  11. The Brewers now have a shorter playoff drought than the Yankees.
  12. Yay, and there was much rejoicing.
  13. Let'a just get this all over with. That's how I feel.
  14. I wish they would start Soriano again. He looked horrible in the field last night.
  15. Scapegoat when things go bad. Tradition. You do need a manager, but they are pretty much interchangeable and in many cases we would be better off with some guy going off a stack of spreadsheets.
  16. I give him no credit whatsoever. The players started to hit. We started to win again. Pretty simple in my mind.
  17. I always just throw them in the washer with my clothes. Of course that doesn't work well if the bill has cardboard in it instead of plastic. No drier though. All my hats are 100% cotton.
  18. I think our payroll is maxed out unless we get another revenue stream. According to Attanasio we are maxed out and then some this year even if we win the world series. Our best chance for more revenue is when our TV contract expires, but how much can we realistically expect even then. We have the smallest TV market in all of MLB. Yeah ticket prices can increase and we can squeeze a few more people into the park, but not enough to make much impact.
  19. It may be some change in approach, but I doubt where he bats in the order matters much. Players may make a big deal about it and baseball writers and baseball announcers, but batting order really doesn't matter. A player is going to hit how he is going to hit and pitchers are going to pitch to him pretty much the same also no matter where in the order they hit. No matter who is in the order around him. 1st .265/312/.530/.842 2nd .283/.358/.522/.880 3rd .233/.258/.400/.658 4th .368/.368/.421/.789 5th .283/.327/.506/.833 6th .288/.325/.425/.750 7th .207/.271/.379/.650 8th .316/.381/.316/.697 9th .368/.429/.605/1.034
  20. As much as official sources will downplay it the fact that we have the most African American team in baseball doesn't hurt our chances of signing him imo. I am sure it doesn't hurt our chances, all else being equal, but as we all know, all things are not equal. Throw in that most think he's not an east coast type person Unfortunately he is a west coast type person and those west coast teams have money also. I believe we offered 4/$52, whereas Houston offered 6/100, or thereabouts. It doesn't matter what we offered, 6/100 for a declining LF is insanity. I'll take 6 years of Braun over 6 years of Lee every time. I think the offer we gave to Lee was in line with David Ortiz's contract at the time. I can't say that I am very disappointed that Lee turned us down. I was not looking forward to his immobile butt out in left field for 4+ years. I have a general dislike of all multi-year contracts to free agents. I prefer extending our own players like we did with Hall and Braun. I know that signing Lee would have technically been extending our own player, but we all know he was/is a hack in the field and would be better suited to 1B. I still think it all comes down to year instead of money per year(for Sheets and CC). I think we can easily match any offer over the next 2 years without putting much strain on our payroll. We still have a limited payroll whether we want to admit it or not. We have some tough decisions ahead of us n the next 2-3 years and I think it is a good idea to keep payroll flexibility instead of tying up 25%+ of our payroll in one player.
  21. Ned would have only played him 2 games a week instead of running him into the ground.
  22. Is this now the biggest series in Brewers history?
  23. You shouldn't ask players to start doing something they haven't done all season 150 games in. We really only have few good base runners/stealers. Bunting is something that should be worked on in spring training if you intend to do it during the season. There isn't much time to work on much of anything once the season starts.
  24. The thing is that others have looked at center fielders around the league and you really can't find a much better deal than Cameron at $10M next year.
