  1. Yes, they were probably mostly throwing errors however some of those errors were because he didn't field the ball well resulting in throwing errors. He had bad instincts, didn't throw the ball accurate and looked just plain awkward at 3B. He was even worse than Weeks at 2B and Fielder at 1B who were just bad not historically bad.
  2. or we could just stick with the way we are doing it now and not add any special steps. If we are going to add something in it should have some benefit. How would opting in help? What does it accomplish other than extra paperwork?
  3. I realize that. Why should they have to opt in? Sounds like nothing more than a bunch of extra paperwork.
  4. How would high school players know to opt in unless they were scouted? Opting in for high school players seems like a lot more paperwork for MLB with no real benefits.
  5. You mean when Wang was not on the team? I think the argument was we burned out the bullpen because our good relievers got used up early in the season. I don't buy that argument at all though. Every team has a guy in the back of the pen who barely gets used.
  6. Both. He was made himself into an average defender in RF. I wouldn't call him good but by the end he was at least not embarrassing himself out there.
  7. They moved him to 3B. I think he played DH as well.
  8. I am not sure declaring for the draft is a good idea. You are talking about a huge pool of kids compared to other sports.
  9. Please stop trying to push your Braun at 3B agenda. There is no meaningful discussion to be had about it. You are wrong.
  10. I don't think the Mets would trade for Segura. Flores looks pretty similar and is 3 years younger.
  11. Crappy people with talent get traded. If he can help a team he will have value. It isn't like he was accused of using PED's.
  12. I think that college education is included in the contract for many HS guys.
  13. What baggage? I doubt the off field stuff matters.
  14. The only time I see that many updates is when I don't use windows for a while or if I install an OS.
  15. When you put it like that, that kind of sucks.
  16. I don't mind the Garza signing because we didn't give up a pick or prospects. I don't expect him to be good for the entire contract but he is talent that could have been moved for more assets. I really didn't expect him to be this bad so fast. I thought we would get at least 2 good years out of him. Flipping Garza or Ramirez for more talent would have been a brilliant move. I don't expect them to drastically cut payroll any year so there is always going to be a certain amount of money spent. If we are going younger, which we should, that leaves more money to spend on free agents. Melvin just has to do a better job moving those guys for more talent.
  17. Gomez too. A large amount of his value is in his defense and speed, which I believe doesn't age as well as other skills. His bat looks like it is dropping off again. I was kind of afraid it would. My guess for him would be a younger peak.
  18. I would hate to get a college pitcher. Those guys get abused in college.
  19. If anything prime would be younger now that the game is "clean."
  20. 31 is the back end of prime/start of decline. 28 is the middle of prime.
  21. What's Maldonado's form? A low .600s OPS? He had a nice 2012, but the trendline is bad since then. I'm not sure we've established Scooter's level yet either. Maldonado had a .700+ OPS in 2012 and 2014. If he could even get to a mid .650 OPS its way more than what he's doing now. Getting in better shape might help. I think Scotter hitting .280-.290 isn't crazy. It might not happen, but these are the kinds of things the Brewers need to happen. Maldonado was a pretty poor hitter in the minors as well(.646 OPS). no reason to expect much from him with the bat.
  22. Of course we need to temper our enthusiasm. That is true of all prospects. I was speaking about the change in drafting philosophy and the direction of the organization in general which, in my opinion, has been going the right way since the Garza signing. Melvin making the right moves is what this thread is about. Whether or not those guys are good is another discussion. We have not picked high in the draft fr a few years so anybody we draft is going to be questionable.
  23. It's not about how the ball flies off the bat. It's about gripping the ball and how breaking balls don't break right, which may be from gripping the ball.
  24. Not really. His spilt is pretty good. He has good power, and he us about average age for his level.
