    Why do pitchers long throw? Same as catchers I would think, to strengthen the arm.

    Squeeze whatever you can out of Sheets and fill the rest of the innings with the inferior pitcher you would have used for all 200 innings. 135 innings of Sheets + 65 innings of Parra is better than 200 innings of Parra. Not to mention we really shouldn't use Parra for 200 innings anyway.

    Didn't Gagne actually have better secondary stats like K rate and BB rate in Boston, but get worse results?

    Nice. Never mind his career .381 OBP. Those strikeouts really kill his OBP. Hard to find decent radio people I guess. Next thing you know they will be saying Dunn clogs the bases.

    I thought he only had 2 decent pitches and needed to work on a third to be more than a reliever for the Brewers. I thought he was ok in his 2006 callup, but the fact that he didn't make an appearance last year leads me to believe he has been passed over by others. He should be more than just a LOOGY if he is in the bulpen.

    I am sure it played some role. At the very least I am sure Melvin was not looking forward to telling the press. Like he said though, people get fired in the middle of their contracts all the time. All this really means is that Yost is guaranteed the money for 2009, not the job. I think people have settled a bit since the end of last season. If this had been announced when it happened, I think people here would have flipped.

    Where is this supposed lovefest that everybody keeps refering to? All I have seen is people saying that Kendall should gives us a little better OBP at worst with about the same defense while stating he has a reputation as a better handler of pitchers. Now if you are talking about an Estrada hatefest I would agree. I think almost everybody is glad to see Estrada gone. I haven't seen to many people very excited about Kendall being brought in though. I personally see it as mostly a lateral move with maybe a bettter attitude.

    Haven't you ever heard Bill and Darron(sp?) ever talk about having a pop after the game?

    As coldy stated, I believe, draft picks fail at an incredibly high rate. Nothing is guaranteed with any pick. It is safer to spend the money on a proven player. Not to mention, at any point in the draft there are many comparable players available.
