  1. Is there any real baseball game other than MVP '05. It is almost legendary. I did play Ken Griffey quite a bit back in the day.
  2. Vargas seemed like one of our slowest pitchers last year. He was very "deliberate" with runners on. His innings seemed to drag on forever. When Vargas is pitching what can you do between the first pitch and the last pitch of an at bat? I am not concerned with reality in this case. According to FTJ, you could watch the entire halftime of the super bowl.(paraphrasing and using some exaggeration. See post #52, Off Topic Forum, Thanks alot Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson...not thread.) I think I could use the bathroom, make myself a sandwich, and pour myself a pop.
  3. I konw that when Vargas is on the mound that I have time to go to the bathroom and only miss part of one at bat. Check that, I have time to go make myself a sandwich.
  4. Yeah Estrada's year may have been hampered by being hurt, but they said that about his 2006 season as well and the season before that. I didn't think Estrada would be any better offensivley in 2007 than Miller was in 2006 so I wasn't to dissapointed in Estrada on that count. Maybe it was a coaching decision, but it didn't seem like there were as many balls in the dirt and when there were it didn't seem like Estrada could block them. I am not expecting much more out of Kendall this year than we got out of Estrada last year. Maybe a better OBP, but that's about it. I don't think Estrada was a problem for his teammates, but I think that there was a personality conflict with one or more of the coaches(my guess would be Maddux), but again we don't know for sure. Just like with Estrada last year I am taking a wait and see approach with Kendall and his handling of the pitching staff and his defense.
  5. Probably wrong of me, but I chuckled a bit at Tom H's dig at Vargas. If you have a bunch of low pitch-count innings, it's certainly not as burdensome as a pitcher who might throw 125 pitches in five innings (as Claudio Vargas often does).
  6. That's what I was thinking, except we have him for 6 years still.
  7. D) Didn't miss the gameday host at all last year.
  8. A back end of the rotation guy succeeding 50% of the time is pretty good.
  9. I completley agree. I will go back and do 2006 for all of our pitchers who had MLB starts in 2006. Right now it looks like some of our pitchers are better at pitching in front of a shoddy defense than others.
  10. I have to confess that I had previously read something about relative run values, but didn't remember much beyond SB being worth next to nothing.
  11. Player Starts 6+ innings 7+ innings Suppan 34 64.7% 20.6% Bush 31 71% 22.6% Capuano 25 40% 20% Sheets 24 75% 25% Vargas 23 47.8% 8.7% Gallardo 17 70.6% 29.4% Villanueva 6 66.7% 16.7% Parra 2 50% 0% http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=pKN8HdBGjC9KoeBvx_jbJEQ EDIT: I don't know how to make it look pretty so I included a link. If somebody knows how to make it look right let me know so in the future I don't have this problem.
  12. Of the current Brewers I would go with Yovani Gallardo. Pitchers are always hard to find.
  13. Tool would be my vote for halftime. In fact just skip the whole game and show a live Tool concert instead. FTJ, Are you sure halftime would be long enough for one Vargas(or Suppan with a guy on) plate appearance?
  14. I think it would be interesting to see where everybody would rank our starters going from who is the most likley to go 6+ innings to who is least likley. I would rank our starters Sheets, Gallardo Bush, Villanueva, Suppan, Cappy, Vargas in that order for last year. That's before looking at their starts. I did look about halfway through the year though, so I have a little idea. Of course things could have changed quite a bit. It would be interesting to have a perception vs reality poll/questionare every month on stuff like this. Similar to Russ' relative value of HR,3B, ect. thread. How did that turn out by the way?
  15. I saw it again, in one of the letter in the Brewers mailbag, and had to just throw it out there for everybody's opinion. Why is it commonly held that Bush was one of our worst starters as far as short starts? I will look into it a little later and get better numbers on it, unless somebody beats me to it, but I seem to remember last time I checked that he was one of our better guys at getting a decent amount of innings each start. This time he was brought up right along with Vargas as one of the guys who only went 5 innings per start.
  16. I don't make any injury posts since I made a sarcastic one about Sheets last year hours before he got injured.
  17. I would include Suppan in the group of marginal stuff pitchers. I thought Suppan contributed down the stretch and he pitched to either Miller or Riveera for the last month and a half. Obviously he didn't pitch as well as either Gallardo or Villy.I do remember Estrada saying something about getting along with the young pitchers which I understood to mean Villy and Gallardo.
  18. I liked it when fox used to do an alternate halftime show.
  19. You really shouldn't talk about good health until it happens. Now we are jinxed.
  20. I never liked that wazzzup crap even though my friends thought it was cool. The Bridgestone commercial would have been better if they had hit Richard Simmons. Is it wrong to think that?
  21. I don't want to say riciculous, but its a lot... I'll be the first one to say that, but I'm not dumb, I'm not going to say no either. ... I play the game to get a ring. - (paraphrased) statement by Jason Kendall when asked if he was motivated more by winning now than by money. You have to like an honest answer. It was a little after the 43 minute point in the first hour.
  22. Does it really matter since our closer always comes in with the shell game on the scoreboard? or was the attendance announced
  23. I am not happy to have th Bucks game instead of the hockey game.
  24. They can do all the math they want, but it relies on luck wether he is a super 2 or not.
  25. Dempster also spent some time on the DL from about the end of June to the end of July. 7 of Howry's 8 saves came during that time.
