  1. Ranking the top 50 free agents They have the Dodgers signing Manny AND CC and much to my surprise, they have the Brewers signing Paul Byrd and Brian Fuentes. I'm not really sure I would want Fuentes for what he'll cost and i'm not sure Byrd would be an upgrade over what we have now. What kind of contracts would it even take to get these guys? I'm sure Fuentes will be looking at upwards of $10mm a year and i'm just not sure it's worth it for a guy who lost his job last year.

  4. Rob Neyer wrote a blog on ESPN basically saying that he's lost all faith in Dayton Moore because of this deal. Mike Jacobs is not a great player at all and most of their organizational depth is at 1B (Butler, Shealy, others).
  5. yeah, I would have loved to take a flyer on Anderson if he could still play the field on a regular basis. He'd look real nice in our lineup, but would probably kill us in the field.
  6. I would love Sabathia at 4 years for $25mm a year. But what's to stop the Yankees from giving him a 6 year deal at $25mm per? It's one thing to like Milwaukee and not want to play in New York, but $50mm is a ton of cash to turn down.
  7. Even if you don't want Cameron on the team next year, there is absolutely no reason NOT to pick up the option. Like people have mentioned, the FA class is not very good at that position. A 30 hr, gold glove caliber CF could fetch a good return via trade. That said, I really want him to come back. He was probably the 4th best position player on the team last year behind Braun, Hardy and maybe Prince. When you consider the alternatives, it's a no brainer to bring him back.
  8. http://www.goatriders.org/bob-brenly-brewer-bround Take it for what it's worth, but I found this over at BCB. Hopefully this is not true for all the reason stated in this thread. I will lose a ton of confidence in Melvin if he goes this route.
  9. I really can't believe he's going to stop with those 3 candidates. If that's the case, I really hope we hire Macha.
  10. One thing about Macha is if Kendall was a very open critic of his in Oakland, how would he react to playing under him again? I agree with everyone saying Valentine or Johnson. None of the other candidates seem like they'd be that much of a departure from Yost, which is what this team sorely needs.
  11. if we hire Willie Randolph, I might be ill. Terrible bullpen management, stoic demeanor, penchant for late season collapses. Correct me if i'm wrong, but didn't we just fire that guy?
  12. All I really want next year is a patient ball club. Take some walks, work the pitch counts, mature as hitters as a team. The rest will fall into place I feel. Aside from that, i'm excited to see who the new manager is and what moves we make this off season. And i'm excited to come up for the White Sox series at MP!
  13. Don't know if it's been discussed yet, but SI.com had this in it's rumors section. What does everyone think of Bobby V? Valentine has change of heart We're hearing more and more that Bobby Valentine, 58, is sending out feelers to return to the States to manage. He earns $1.5 million per year managing the Chibe Lotte Marines but appears to be growing weary of Japan and would love to return home to manage. "I know he's sent e-mails to a few 'future' GMs," said an American League scout. Valentine reportedly was interested in returning to the Mets, but they ended up retaining Jerry Manuel. He now has his sights set on Seattle, while Milwaukee also could be a possibility.
  14. so do 9 pack holders get refunded automatically or will we also be getting a letter with an option to roll over to 2009?
  15. I just have a hard time believing. He had a huge September last year and then this year it was more of the same. I really hope we're able to get a better option at lead off so we can see what he can do if he's given the full season batting down in the order.
  16. doesn't that seem like a lot of dough for a guy who was in the minors for Cincinnati? I mean, he pitched great down the stretch, but it's a very small sample size. Do we really want to go 2 years on him?
  17. So my razr is finally dying so i'm looking for some recommendations on a new cell phone. I don't want anything too fancy or too expensive (so no iphone). I absolutely love the razr, so i'm looking for something about the same size and the same quality. I just don't feel like spending $100 to get a new razr. I've been looking at the LG Shine, which appears to be about the same size as a razr. The reviews are overall pretty good, but there are some concerns about the joystick and the small keypad. so does anyone have the shine? like it? yeay or nay on the slider phones? any other recommendations?? I guess I should note that I currently use AT&T as my provider.
  18. For those of you who did the playoff tickets last year, when should we expect to see our money refunded to our credit cards? Have people already started to see them show up? Mods, feel free to move this if it shouldn't be here.
  19. there is nothing anyone could ever tell me that would make me excited about TGJ getting a full year in Milwaukee. I seriously hope that he's gone this off season. But I digress... I'm happy it was Brantley and not Green or LuCroy. It soudns like Green/Brantley are very similar players and i'll take a guy who can possibly play 2B/3B any day over another outfielder.
  20. Witrade says that Durham and Counsell don't offer an ugrade offensively over Weeks/Hall. I have to whole heartedly disagree with that. I don't want to see Rickie or Billy on the field on Saturday. As far as i'm concerned, this should be the lineup the rest of the season.
  21. not entirely surprising, better him than Suppan though. Hopefully he can throw strikes (but not meatballs) and our offense can figure out how to hit a change up.
  22. I really think we should just watch Manny Ramirez at the plate. dude is one cool customer. takes pitches, makes them throw him strikes, doesn't get himself out. We've just been way too anxious at the plate all year, swinging at everything out of the zone. If we'd settle down, we would be a much better team and not so prone to getting no-hit through 6 every other game.
  23. my playoff beard got the Packers to the NFC Championship game last year, so i'm doing my part right now, even though it's still in it's early stages.
  24. if it's a short term thing like they're saying, we still absolutely offer him arbitration. worst case scenario is he accepts and we have the same rotation we started the year with. I can live with that.
  25. I know we have to play to the platoon advantages or whatever, but I would much, much rather have Durham and Counsell in there than Hall and Weeks. Stupid Philly and their stupid lefty pitchers.
