  1. http://sportsillustrated....entral/index.html?eref=T1 for what it's worth, this writer seems to think the Reds should trade us Arroya for Escobar and other pieces. I wouldn't do Escobar for Arroyo straight up, let alone throwing in other prospects.
  2. so people are viewing him as a leadoff/CF then? I guess I could get on board with that, even though i'd hate to lose Cameron. Did the Royals play him at a corner though?

  6. What's the appeal with DeJesus? I keep hearing his name so I checked out his numbers and nothing really jumped out at me. Solid average, not a lot of speed or power, decent OBP. Would we play him in CF because it doesn't look like he has the numbers to play a corner. (fixed code --1992)

  10. Cubs better hope that last year was the start of a trend and not a fluke.
  11. as much as I want CC back, I honestly believe it might be best for the franchise if he goes elsewhere. I'd hate to see what happens if we sign him and he gets hurt or something. The Yankees may be able to absorb that blow, but we surely couldn't. I just can't help but think back to A-Rod in Texas. Great player, but they didn't have the money to surround him with enough talent to win. I just hope that wherever CC goes, if he comes to pitch in Miller Park that people don't boo him.
  12. If we're going to trade Cameron to the Yanks, i'd much rather get back Swisher than the pile of garbage that was being talked about before. I think Swisher could bounce back in a big way. He'll never hit for a high average, but he's got solid pop and takes a lot of walks.
  13. I think i'd prefer Hoffman for the simple fact that his contract demands, in dollars and years, probably won't be as high as Wood's. Not to mention the whole injury thing. Although the thought of Wood closing out games for the Brewers in Wrigley is very appealing from a certain standpoint.
  14. this is very disappointing. I was really hoping that we could buy low on Swisher. is OBP would have been very welcome on the Brewers.
  15. from what I can tell, it doesn't sound like the Padres are planning on offering him a contract at all, so he shouldn't cost any draft picks. Even if he does cost us a pick, I still think we should do it considering we could potentially pick up 2 1st rounders for CC and Sheets.
  16. I didn't even think about the effect Hoffman could have by passing on some knowledge to the young bullpen guys. That makes me like this even more. It sounds like Cleveland and Detroit are going to be in the mix too, hopefully Melvin makes the call at least.
  17. Sign me up for a 1+option or 2 year deal for Hoffman. If we can throw money at Gagne, we can go after a legit closer in Hoffman. He's not a dominant closer anymore, but is still a better option than anyone we have and would make the pen better simply by shifting everyone back an inning. and no thanks for a Hardy for Blackburn+Perkins deal. we can do way better than that in the unlikely event we deal JJ.
  18. depending on if Melvin thinks Hart's second half was the exception or the rule, I would see if we could trade him for Giles and Bell.
  19. that is very, very surprising. Seems like kind of the anti-Beane type of move. I wonder if they'll sign him to an extension.
  20. Weren't people saying the same thing about the Suppan contract? I think that's a terrible way to look at things. I love CC, but the most I would offer him would be 4 years, maybe 5. No way do I touch a 6 year deal if i'm Melvin.
  21. I've been believing since 2006 my man. I have big expectations for him next year. I feel like he was our 2nd best pitcher behind CC down the stretch last year so I hope he can carry that over to '09. If we're going to be competitive, we're going to need the good Dave Bush to show up consistently.
  22. I couldn't agree more! Has there been any indication that Melvin and Williams have talked at all or is this pure speculation? They've worked together in the past, so I would hope someone would at least make a phone call.
  23. Why do people still think Melky has value? he simply is not very good, a 4th OF at best seems to be what i've heard. If we're dealing Cam, we better get something that we can actually use. A Braun/Cabrera/Hart OF would be terrible, IMO.
  24. I would absolutely love to go after Vazquez if we lose Sheets/CC. He strikes out a fair amount of batters and will always give you innings. Like someone mentioned, the fact that he has 2 years left is ideal because that's at least 2 years less than anyone we'd sign would be locked into. I just think Ozzie doesn't like Vazquez, as evidenced by calling him out about not being a 'big game' pitcher. Even if we can't get rid of Suppan, i'd see if they'd take Bill Hall for him.
  25. Today is the day, am I right? If my math is correct, we have through today to pick up the option. In my mind, it's a no-brainer. $10mm for a power hitting CF with gold glove D is pretty solid. Even if we dont' want him, i'm sure we can trade him too. Makes me a little nervous that Melvin hasn't already pulled the trigger, however.
