  1. I view ellsbury as buying a prospect. Ala Matt kemp or Adrian Gonzalez. It frees ellsbury as well, which he might prefer since I doubt the Yankees will just straight up release him.
  2. depending on how much the actual plan to spend is this year, we could still see a starting of of Braun, brinson, and Cain, even after a trade like this. Ellsbury would get more pt anywhere other than Ny, and he knows that.
  3. If they actually did get ellsbury, there’s no way the brewers are paying more than 20-30% of that stupid contract. Everything you said is true. If they are going to blow 60 million, they’d be better off doing it on any number of a handful of the free agents still available. The whole point of trading Ellsbury for the Yankees is to free up salary. Trading him just to eat most of it doesn't make sense for them. Also doesn't make much sense for the Brewers as the huge salary coming here would weaken the return for a player we don't want or need. Have to think if there's any truth to Jacoby it's designed for us to take on most salary in exchange for a good return of prospects. Obviously the Yankees would love to find some team to pay ellsbury’s full salary, but that’s not happening. So for them, it’s a win at this point to find a team that will pay any percentage. He has no place on their team. If they were able to save 20%, then that’s 12 million they can spend on something else, as opposed to the zero + ellsbury that they have right now. The dude is the living embodiment of sunk cost to the Yankees.

  5. Based on Fip and xFip, Chacin was about the same as Zach Davies and Alex Cobb (and Jake Arrieta), better than Straily and Lynn, and waaaaaaaaaay better than Matt Moore, Julio Teheran, and Jeremy hellickson in 2017. I've seen all of those names tossed around either as trade candidates or as considerably pricier free agent signings. The Brewers got him for about as cheap as you can get a top 50 Free Agent. This isn't a new Ferrari, but it is a Honda Accord, and in 9/10 ways, that's better.
  6. you can always just buy bitcoin and litecoin at whatever they are right now with your 500 and hope they keep going up. I did this about 10 days ago and made 400 bucks, mostly on the litecoin. There's a bit of risk, sure, but there are fewer gate keepers than the stockmarket, and the fairly low. It's not hard to withdraw cash. At this point, I've removed my initial investment, so I've only got the profit I turned still in coinbase, which i've moved around a little to try and make more.
  7. if you hopped on my Spirit Airlines advice last week, you've made 10% in the last 3 days!
  8. ive made about 10% profit (or 5 bucks a share) on Spirit airlines in the last month, and I think it'll run to 45 before Spring. It was about 60 back in the summer then fell off a cliff. It doesn't pay a dividend, but there's money to be made if any of youse guys are risk takers like me. edit: bad at math
  9. He's gonna be a free agent, and while he wasn't an instant success in the minors last season, he's make a great signing. Supposedly there will be limitations placed on him and anyone else the Braves have to give up, so maybe the Brewers can take advantage and sign him.
  10. he's probably the perfect guy to get the last out in the world series. They need to bring him up just to make that possible
  11. Taylor Green. I saw him play a whole lot when he was with West Virginia in 2007, and spoke to him at length a couple of times. He is a genuinely nice guy, who had power, on base skills, and the ability to play all over the field. He worked his way up through the system, won the Minor league Player of the year award twice, and made it to the majors in 2011. Then just stopped. He got hurt in '12 and was never the same player. Missed all of 13, and wasn't even good in the minors afterwards. I know there have been a lot of guys like Green in the system, but he stands out for me because watching him in his first trip through the minors, I was just sure he'd have a career in the bigs. I'll also readily admit I thought Will Inman was the best pitching prospect since Ben Sheets.
  12. There are lots of good points made here. A couple that I haven't seen: 1. Some players sustain success: For example, Corey Knebel may neither regress nor improve, he might just join Craig Kimbrel and Aroldis Chapman as an elite Closer with 15 k/9 stuff. This isn't a 1/10000 chance these days, as there are more than a handful of these guys in the majors. Likewise, Domingo Santana showed incredible ability to hit strikes, and very hard this year. If he changes nothing, he will be a star player next year. 2. Stearns has shown the ability to continue to mine, cheaply, I might add, for new additions to the team. I have no doubt that he will ad a player or two that we are not expecting that will greatly outplay expectations. This has been true of MANY players over the past two seasons (Villar, Pina, Broxton, Shaw, Sogard, Thames, Aguilar, etc)
  13. my hope is that walker and villar and broxton are gone. That should help to some degree in theory. Although, I guess they could look for an even bigger splash at 2b...not sure who fits the bill of availability and better than Walker though.
  14. There was like 20 times I thought this was over, and yet the team lasted until the day before the last day of the season. This was 10,000X better than 2014. I can't wait for 2018 to start.
  15. I wasn't bold enough!!! But i was right about Villar. How on earth did Garza make the whole season with the team? Hader was definitely the ROY. Knebel was the CY, and he should get some actual CY votes, but Ace Chanderson and Jimmy Nelson were great, and both better than Davies, even though he was excellent for a young starter. Braun aged. I'd call MVP Shaw, but Santana was the better player down the stretch for sure.
  16. Well Rene Garcia has posted an OPS of .809 between AAA and AA this year. Personally I could live without Espino on the 40 man. this wouldn't be a surprise at all, or if not, a AAA trade to get another catcher immediately. Nottingham to AAA? Plausible
  17. x100... It is amazing how we don't appreciate a guy that turned 24 and is having a very good offensive year. Just continues to get better but a lot of fans just disregard him. Since May 1, He has a .316 AVG .400 OBP. At the age of 24, I think he is solidifying himself as a core player not a trade piece. Santana has been playing like a burgeoning superstar, not just a core Brewer, but a top ten OF in the MLB. He's 24! He's younger than Cordell!
  18. keep an eye on ken rosenthal, he always breaks these things first this time of year. don't keep an eye on brewer world. he doesnt.
  19. Verlander gives the Brewers a shot to get interesting with the players they trade to detroit. he should cost zero top prospects---like nothing close. He's Detroit's Braun. I think something like Verlander and all his contract should net Detroit something like Keon Broxton and Lara. If they want real prospects, they are gonna have to chip in a bunch of money. If they include Wilson, they probably net 1 top ten guy. not in the BA top 100, 1 top ten organizational guy from whoever gets him if he's bundled with Verlander. I could maybe see someone like Villar moved for both of them. I like the Verlander idea a bunch, much more than Gray. I'd rather spend Mark's money than trade the prospects.
  20. He's always hurt. I'd rather have Quintana
  21. Quintana wasn't good in April, he's been much better lately.
  22. If I'm the Brewers, I'd be willing to move Hader and Ray for a frontline starter with a few years of control left. They are relatively deep prospect wise at questionable starter and CF and both of these guys are right on the bubble of seeing their stars fade. This might be the end of peak value until they have a second breakout. It's probably the best possible time to move them. If you combined them both with someone like Broxton or Villar to get Quintana or Gray, then you've appeared to give up a ton, but probably haven't long term. Ray is starting to remind me of Marquis Grissom. Good, but never living up to superstar projections.
