  1. Chapman still flashing that power in BC, even with the 10 walks, Chappy has still k'ed 22 times...in 77 ab's, Chapman's 3TO percentage .467 for comparison, Branley's is .283...speaking of, Michale's ridiculous start continues...added a 2b tonight to puch that slugging percentage up a notch...just a strange prospect...but, if he can muster 5 long balls this year he'll be Daric Barton, except with a ton more versatility...as mentioned a zillion times before, it's just hard to see that walk rate continue with no power...at some point, they'll just stop throwing him balls...then again, if he hits .375, it won't really matter...at the moment he's more like Jason Tyner than anything else... The weird thing, for those of you that have never seen Mike, is that he looks like a slugger... he's not a small guy at all...he's very well built at 6-2...but no power...this is why baseball america sttill thinks he's a 4th outfielder with pinch hitting skills...but man, so young...2 and a half years younger than Laporta...it's easy to lose sight of that..
  2. it's only been like 60 ab's for Taylor...as awesome as he's been, a 2 for 20 streak would kill his stats.. if you are promoting just based on statistics, then you've got to wait on sample size a little more... if you are promoting based on other criteria, them hings may change...that said, the brewers don't promote many guys midd year...and they don't even ddo that until closer to the all-star break..
  3. i've gotten to seee smoltz pitch about 15 times over his career...he domintaes a game...and while he's been in the shadow of many others, he's always been a top notch starter...he still has the power and ability to win 15-20 games and strike out 200 a year in his forties...something all of his contemporaries just can't do anymore... smoltz is a hall of famer...and he's probably got a couple more seasons in him as well...
  4. Inman's not a good comp to Butler...Inman's younger than him, a league above him, 6 inches shorter than him and k's more guys... statistically he's more like Alex Periard, in that he gets round outs...but much larger and possibly more projectable... i like Butler...getting a 2nd round pick for Gross is sweet...even if it hurts a bench that pretty much sucked before hand... i'm ready for a russ branyan/ brad nelson on the bench...actually...there used to be this guy that played here that played slick d in the corner and mashed righties...what was his name again? Geoff something?? I digress... This hurts the team...though not enough to really matter...once cameron is back, gross was looking at 2-3 ab's a week, so it is inconsequential then..
  5. she's middle of the pack...yeah, she's with a good team, but she beats the crap out of lots of other guys you've never heard of because they aren't half the talent she is... she's not a top of the line talent, but she's not bad...she's the least "publicity stunt" woman to ever race in a major series...she's competent and fast... without the espn hype machine, people probably wouldn't expect her to be mario andretti
  6. a sequence of events that leads darren ford to huntsville and alcides escobar to nashville seems likely at some point...however, other than laporta and gillespie, we're young at most levels so there's really no reason to bump anyone up... i've never seen much necessity to move AA players to AAA, so i'm fine with laporta playing there all year...
  7. i wish it wasn't national news when they yankees consider moving a reliever into the rotation...
  8. how dare you pretend to be bill...i thought i knew you
  9. what about as a first baseman? Because that's where he played today... he's the strangest guy in the system...he's getting on base at a .471 clip, but he's only got two extra base hits... i genuinely don't know what to think of him...he's very unique...if only there was a little bit more power...
  10. vent thread or in game chat
  11. yup, drafted out of Cypress JC in the 25th round of 2005
  12. i think his power ceiling is probably 20 homers...i think he's more likely to hit about 15 a year...then again, i would have said the same thing about hardy, but he hit 26 last year... hitting homers in florida at this time of year is basically impossible, so don't hold it against him that he hasn't been hitting them yet...Mat Gamel had the exact same problem last year..
  13. Steve Chapman has 11 walks in 55 ab's this year...a drastic improvement over the 36 he had in 450 ab's last year...if this is a legit change, steve could be a top notch prospect...he's the only outfield prospect besides laporta with real power... Taylor green screams "i'm not a fluke" and mashes in BC... Brent Brewer with the best game of his career... Mat Gamel is playing well in AA Matt Lucroy is leading the offense in WV.. i'd love to see Chuckie Caulfield move to AA at some point this year...he's a 4th outfield prospect, but he's a well rounded player...he's probably gonna top out at AA-AAA just based on age and the fact that he doesn't have a standout skill, but i wouldn't mind seeing him pushed to see if he responds... Tonight made me very happy... cold starts seem to b over...hopefully we'll get a winning streak out of WV now...
  14. Corey Hart is the best hitter on the team...and way to go with the pitch for hart, hardy, counsell, and kendall...if only everyone would quit trying to pull everything..
  15. santana and i can't believe anyone would not think santana
  16. again, i wasn't saying he's going to have a fantastic year or future, just that he has more of a track record than other surprise players like melvin mora... and as for the steroid suggestion, gabe's just as ripped now as he was in that time frame, so whatever he is on hasn't gotten him caught yet
  17. Now, im not saying that gabe has become a great player...but it wasn't just potential he was riging on early in his career...he put up ridiculous numbers in the minors...and then was a good major leaguer in his age 24-25 seasons...he fell off a cliff after that what does that mean? not much...but there was certainly more talent in gabe kapler than there ever was in a guy like gross or podsednik...and even though gabe is 32, it's conceivable that he could have figured out enough of what he was doing wrong his last few years and fixed it so that he could be a .750-.800 ops guy...
  18. Jim Lambie's floor tape display at the national gallery in DC...i've had it like two years...i kinda miss my neon dna..
  19. definitely fake...but im drawn by its dizzying allure...
  20. slightly off topic, but has anyone eve tried to con directv into giving you network stations when you live in an area that already gets them over the air?
  21. I think it's odd that people look at griffey's career and wonder what could have been..sure, he coulda been a little better...but the dudes gonna finish up with willie mays esque numbers and he managed to be well liked throughout the entire steroids era... honestly, he and frank thomas' reputations probably benefitted from their being hurt during the early 2000's because it has kept them far away from steroid allegations... that sad, "the kid" was freaking awesome in the 90's...
  22. i'd have garrison in the 4-7 range and inman in the 7-10 range...they would definitely be top ten guys.. thatch i believe is too old
  23. my thought would be that they are really trying hard to find out if hernan can play cf...he's in his final option year and he's got more potential with the stick than gwynn...
  24. im curious how the departure of hitting coach extraordinare corey hart from wv would affect the team...the current crop of minor leaguers reminds me of like 2002...we've got a few guys who should break out, but there will be some hyped players that fade away this year for sure..
  25. if brantley hits .300/.400/.400 this year while playing cf, he's in my top five as well... if he hits .270/.370/.330 while playing corner, then he stays about 15th... he's young so we've got a ton of time on him... i fully expect cole gillespie to blow up this season in AA...he and laporta will be in AAA by the end of the year, which would be fine...break into the major at 24...first full season at 25...
