  1. anyone else notice that Steve Sollman seems to be on the exact same route as Kevin Youkilis It's sort of uncanny...check out the year in the FSL, followed by the breakout season in AA... Steve's not young, but this kind of season has to be impressing the heck out of reid nichols...
  2. Cole Gillespie's on a another planet right now...he's on his way to a .400 OBP and a .900 OPS in Brevard right now...he's going to be promoted pretty soon...i suspect alcides will be as well...one of the power player told me he'd heard they were about to promote the SS down in Florida...which makes sense...sure wish he'd take a walk though..
  3. you should also remind BA that it was the hurricane, not Alcides who got caught corking last year...
  4. cancel your playoff tickets if we move mench and his sub .600 OPS against righties into a full time role... mench is the one who's trading value is evaporating...
  5. Ya know, the writing was on the wall for Mike Carlin, but i'm still really bummed about this...Mike was one of the guys I've been following very closely all season because he had some really strong moment for the Pirates...I even did a full interview with him back in February that never made it on the site...hopefully he gets picked up somewhere else, because he seemed like a great and determined guy. This sucks, but he had to know it was coming... I'll try my best to post part of the interview in the next couple days, because i think he was a player that deserved to be hear, and never really got a chance in pro baseball..
  6. yeah, asheville has a genuinely odd ball park...it's very short in left...like 290, but 30 or so feet tall...it's a major home run park..
  7. i think they'll both move up...Darren Ford and Mike Brantley will move to brevard at some point as well.. Gillespie is actually having a really impressive debut...he's on his way to a minor league player of the month award...
  8. adam pettyjohn with a rough, rough start for huntsville.. also, click on cole gillespie's link through the box score and check out his numbers for this season...he's putting togetehr a very solid first half in brevard, especially considering this is his first full seaosn in the minors, and his first taste above rookie ball...i still think he's a premier prospect, and someone we'll be talking about as a possible starter in spring training 2009...
  9. West Virginia Overview These are my notes from a few days ago...
  10. Final: Brevard County 10, St. Lucie (Mets) 5 Brevard Box Score: Alcides and Lorenzo both on base 4 times...but all singles or walks...I know it's very hard to get extra bases at Space Coast Stadium, but it's frightening how little power this group has displayed after hitting well last year... www.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb..._breafa_1 Brevard Game Log: www.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb..._breafa_1
  11. Final: Huntsville 4, West Tenn (Mariners) 0 Hunstville Site Game Summary: Narron Nails Down His First Win by Shutting Down DJaxx Sam Narron tossed eight scoreless innings in Huntsville?s 4-0 blanking of West Tenn Friday night in the opener of a five-game set at Joe Davis Stadium. The Stars ended a two-game slide and improved to 20-19 on the season, while the Diamond Jaxx fell to 18-23 on the year. Huntsville won only two of 15 home games last year against West Tenn, who was then affiliated with the Chicago Cubs. Narron, who entered the game 0-3 with a 6.08 earned run average, allowed a two-out single in the first inning and a one-out base hit to Charlton Jimerson before he set down the next 14 batters he faced, including seven by strikeout. Prentice Redman led off the seventh with a double and never advanced, as the southpaw retired the next three hitters to end the frame. Rene Rivera led off the eighth with a single and was wiped out when Chris Minaker grounded into an inning-ending double play. Narron did allow a runner past second base in his longest outing since August 11, 2004 and earned his first win of the season. He struck out a season-high eight and did not walk a batter. Robert Hinton completed the Stars third shutout of the season with a scoreless ninth inning and got Jeff Frazier to bounce into a double play after Sebastian Boucher reached on a fielding error by Hernan Iribarren. Yohanis Perez and Steve Sollmann opened the home third with singles, advanced on an Iribarren sacrifice bunt and scored to make it 2-0 on a single by Lou Palmisano, who had bunted into a double play with two runners on base and nobody out in the first. Steve Moss then completed the three-run rally with a two-out triple to right field to collect just his fourth hit in 33 at-bats. Brendan Katin and Adam Heether opened the fourth inning with a single and moved up on a Perez sacrifice bunt before Katin scored on a fielder?s choice grounder off the bat of Sollmann. Justin Thomas suffered the loss for the Diamond Jaxx and fell to 0-2 in five starts. He gave up a season-high four runs on a season-high eight hits over five frames, while walking one and fanning three. Chad Fillinger and Kam Mickolio tossed a combined three innings of shutout relief. The series continues on Saturday afternoon, as Huntsville will send southpaw Manny Parra to the hill against West Tenn right-hander Andy Baldwin. Coverage of the game begins at 1:50 p.m. central time and can be heard locally on SportsRadio 730 AM WUMP and through the internet at www.huntsvillestars.com. 12. Final: Albuequerque 6 (Marlins), Nashville 4 Nashville Game Site Summary Sounds Fall To Isotopes, 6-4 Date Posted: 5/18/2007 NASHVILLE ? The Albuquerque Isotopes jumped out to an early 4-0 lead on Friday evening and held on to post a 6-4 victory over the Nashville Sounds in front of 9,874 fans at Greer Stadium. The loss snapped a three-game win streak for Nashville (21-20). Former Sounds slugger Chad Hermansen put Albuquerque on the board in the top of the third inning with a two-out, two-run home run to left off Nashville starter Zach Jackson. The blast, which scored Robert Andino and gave the visitors a 2-0 lead, was Hermansen?s fifth of the year and his first against the club with which he logged 468 games played from 1998-2002. The Isotopes increased the lead to 4-0 against Jackson in the fourth. Scott Seabol drew an inning-opening walk then scored a batter later on Brett Carroll?s RBI triple to left-center. Carroll later came home on a Chris Ashby groundout. Nashville pulled within 4-3 in the sixth with three runs against Isotopes reliever Ben Julianel. Drew Anderson, who recorded a season-best three hits on the evening, started the frame with a single, moved to third on an Ozzie Chavez bunt single, and scored on pinch-hitter Joe Dillon?s sacrifice fly to put the Sounds on the board. After Callix Crabbe walked, Chris Barnwell floated a two-run double to left-center to make it a one-run contest. Albuquerque got a run back in the top of the seventh when Eric Reed scored on a Val Pascucci groundout, increasing the advantage to 5-3. The Sounds rallied again to pull within a run in the home half of the seventh as Brad Nelson led off with a single, moved to second on a passed ball, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored on a Vinny Rottino groundout. Isotopes reliever Nate Field stifled an eighth-inning Sounds rally after Charles Thomas led off with a pinch-hit double to right and was sacrificed to third. The right-hander struck out Barnwell and induced an inning-ending lineout from Laynce Nix to keep Nashville at bay. Albuquerque plated an insurance run against Steve Bray in the eighth, extending the lead to 6-4 on Carroll?s two-out RBI single to center. Isotopes starter Jeff Fulchino (3-0) worked five scoreless innings to earn the victory. He allowed six hits, walked three batters, and struck out two. Field worked the final two innings in scoreless fashion to notch his fourth save of the year. Jackson (5-3) lasted only four innings for Nashville and took the loss after throwing 84 pitches and allowing four runs on six hits while walking four batters and striking out three on the evening. Left-hander Joe Thatcher made his career Triple-A debut for Nashville and worked a scoreless two-thirds of an inning with one strikeout. The clubs combined to leave 21 runners on base in the contest, finishing 3-for-27 with runners in scoring position between them. The Sounds left a season-high 11 runners on the basepaths. The teams continue the series with a 6 p.m. meeting on Saturday evening at Greer Stadium. Right-hander Jose Capellan (3-2, 3.18) will make his first non-rehab start since the middle of the 2005 season when he toes the rubber for Nashville. Albuquerque will counter with right-hander Ricardo Rodriguez (1-3, 8.02). Andy Bouchie doubled with one out in the third inning and scored on Jimmy Mojica?s groundout. The Power scored their final run of the game in the top of the fifth on Darren Ford?s run scoring single. Gomez spoiled the no-hit bid as well with Asheville?s only hit of the game, which came with one out in the bottom of the ninth. The Tourists scored their lone run in the ninth when Daniel Mayora reached on a fielder?s choice to plate Jay Cox who reached on an errant throw to begin the inning. 14. Cappellan was a starter until halfway through 2005... whoever said they are stretching him out to take dessens role may have been right.. or, they could just be sick of Dickey..
  15. are these signings free?? i'd like a TGJ auto if someone can hook me up...i can pay some...
  16. Steve Chapman has raised his OPS about a hundred points in the last two games... down in florida...Cole Gillespie's first half seems dissapointing, but its unbelievably similar to ryan braun's first half in the fsl last year...
  17. the errors i saw Mat make last year were fielding the ball, not throwing it..
  18. 23 is old for the sally league, no doubt, but it shouldn't hurt his chances too much...as long as he's producing, he could still reach AAA by 25/26 which give him a shot at a decent major league career...he's deinitely got to keep tearing the cover off the ball though... I'd say the Sally league is fairly balanced...asheville, is a hitters park out the wazoo however, along with greensboro, so don't be surprised to see a few homers this week..
  19. yeah, definitely go see them play...i think Alex periard may be pitching today, i'd love to hear about him...steve chapman, kenny holmberg, and taylor green are all very exciting to watch as well.. don't forget brent brewer, last year's second pick.. if they are still going to be in town on sunday, go watch zach braddock pitch...he's moving up the prospect chart very quickly...
  20. I havent been to one this year... I've seen Mat play about 10 times. he's certainly got the potential to play passable 3b defense, and i think the Brewers agree with me on this. I know he's got to think about that error total alot and i could see how it would cause pressure on a player to change his game...
  21. i'm well aware of that... but i dont think the brewers see a pressing need to move Gamel, so i doubt they will for another year or two...unlike when everyone in the system was a first baseman, there's just no motivation to shift him somewhere else...
  22. no reason to move a guy in the low minors...they won't move him to another position until he hits AA or higher, i would assume... like braun, i think they intend to fix him
  23. welcome aboard thecouga23... you're going to like it here...
  24. well, Ford and Brantley are repeating, and will likely be moved up the chain mid season...Andy lefave isn't really an outfielder I am very excited about this crop of players as they have tyhe ability to draw a walk, hit for average, play good defense and hit lots of doubles...there's currently 4 guys that could start in CF on the WV roster, which is crazy..
