  1. FYI, his OPS the last 3 years has been .850. When given playing time and being healthy he has done pretty well. Do I expect him to make the All-Star team? No. But saying he is as bad an .800 OPS player you can come up with is a pretty healthy exaggeration in my mind. how would you find a guy who puts up such an OPS who is a worse player? He's about as bad as you can get defensively. He hits about .230. He strikes out a TON...which I say realizing K's are overrated, but he just strikes out so much. He's got some value, but I don't think you could find a worse player with an OPS in the .800's. He's a nice bench bat, but that's about it to me. I think he's a bit glorified on here. I am not sure I understand your first question. I think OBP is slightly more important than SLG, but Branyan's OBP has always been pretty solid. I just disagree with a lot of your opinions here. When I saw him play everyday in MKE I thought his defense even at 3rd was at the very least average. I doubt it has degraded enough to be "as bad as you can get" especially when he is at 1st. Once again, I think you are really exaggerating.
  2. How are you planning to learn by the way? I want to go to China in the next year, so I am thinking of trying to learn enough Mandarin to not embarrass myself. Thinking about picking up just the first lesson of Rosetta Stone but would love to hear other suggestions.
  3. I have read a little more about 'The Death Grip." It probably is a little overblown, but it sounds as though it is effecting roughly 50% of phones. Its great that you got a regular one, but a lot of people didn't and for them it sounds like it is a problem. I have heard it will be fixed with a software patch, but I have also heard tech people say thats not going to be possible. Either way its a public relations headache and if I had waited in line to get one I would be pretty upset.

  5. I didn't see the game, but just read that article. My immediate thought was that Parra probably pitched well enough but tired out and Witrado was just being his usual self. You know a paper has gotten pretty bad when readers start disbelieving an article half way through just because they don't trust the writer.
  6. Yea, its not really a reality game show or anything. It is more of a documentary on the lives that these guys lead. After the catch has always been about them further explaining what you see on the show together. They have to film it after the season ends of course and they can't exactly ask the skippers to not give out spoilers. I guess I don't see it as a very big deal. I don't think a lot of viewers watch the show in anticipation of a beginning, middle, and end.
  7. Not in the short term, in the long term. Yo and the rest of the team may very well have been upset in the moment, but if it increases their chances of winning Yo's next start (or next few starts), then it's worth doing. Exactly, MLB players are smart enough to realize that you are playing for a season record. In my opinion it wouldn't be hard at all to convince your team that pulling Yo out was the best thing for increasing your team's chances to win more games over the course of the season.
  8. Axford's FB is a full mph faster than Jackson's. Coffey works right around the same speed. I would be willing to bet we have 5-10 minor league pitchers who can work at FB speeds higher than Jackson as well. Regardless, Jackson's velocity as a starter is very impressive, its just that your statement was false.
  9. Spanish, Arabic, Mandarin...in order of usefulness in this country going forward in my opinion.
  10. It was my understanding the problem was the antenna location. If that is the case, I don't see how software can fix it. Hopefully Apple has something up their sleeve.
  11. Have you had the issues with the signal dropping when you hold it in your hand? It sounds like there may have to be a recall from what I have read.
  12. When Landon scored, I was on a conference call with like 5 other people around the state of Illinois on a train station job, all of whom I don't think have a clue about soccer. I had ESPN's gamecast minimized and sort of lost track of how much time was left thinking hope was lost anyways, then the girl down the hall who is as into soccer as me came running down and I had to put my phone on mute as soon as I saw her face. After we jumped up and down like little kids for a minute I had to get back on the phone and act like an adult. For the rest of the tourny, I will now make sure I am surrounded by fans and not at work. I hate that I hadn't canceled that meeting and gone out to a bar. As a huge soccer fan I will always remember where I was when that goal happened, and after seeing that video I wish it was spent truly celebrating. After I got off the phone I ran around the office celebrating though. In the end, it was great to see so many casual fans taking an interest. I just wish the moment it happened was better for me.
  13. This is what I was getting at. I am sure there is a small segment of the population that it is impossible for. I am sure there is another large segment of the population that it is impossible for them, meaning they don't have the dedication to accomplish it. There is nothing wrong with that. I was and still mostly am one of those guys LouisEly spoke of who is at the gym religiously but was platoed for years. The problem (and this is just me specifically) wasn't that I had reached my peak due to test levels. The problem was that I would drink and eat as much as I wanted every weekend and wasn't getting enough protein. And I was fine with that (still am) since I am youngish and like to have fun with my friends. I am sure there is some truth to what LouisEly is saying, he is in the business so he knows more about it than the rest of us as far as I can tell, but I think he accidentally overestimated things. I would guess there is an extremely small segment of the population that has actually reached their genetic limit. For nearly everyone who thinks they have reached that limit, they could probably work out more effectively, eat more protein, or eliminate a cheat meal and have more success. Back to the original topic though, I don't think Fish Oil in and of itself will do much of anything for fat loss. You should take it to be healthy though. If I wanted to lose some weight, I would work out at least 3 times a week (cardio and weights), eat as much veggies and meat as I could but still at a caloric deficiency, and supplement with just whey protein. Most people will probably also say Omega 3s and a multivitamin as well and they are probably right.
  14. Exactly, so why are you telling people that the majority can't do it? I certainly am not genetically predisposed, but for the last 2 months I have been eating right and working out and for the first time in my life am getting a real six pack (drinking a lot less has helped too). He works for a big nutrition company and even he admitted to me that if you have low testosterone levels it is extremely difficult to have a lean physique. You said most people can't do it. You said you have to have above average test levels. Your friend here seems to be saying it is difficult if you have low test levels. Thats a lot different than saying most people can't every do it (and even then they could still raise test levels by natural or unnatural methods). I agree with your friend. I am simply saying that I think most people can get any body they want if they really dedicate themselves.
  15. I really disagree with this. With proper diet and training (mostly diet) I think pretty much every one can have a six pack. Some people just have to work much harder at it than others.
  16. There are two schools of thought on that. A lot of our players lack the creativity and one on one ball skills of the Latin American or African players. Do they learn this in the streets? I don't know. Look at Freddy Adu's development though. He was identified very early on and coached the hell out of. That didn't work out at all. On the flip side, I believe Dempsey was playing as a kid against mostly Mexican grown men in pickup games. He also has arguably the best one on one skills on the whole team.
  17. He was onsides. Also, I believe the rule actually states that if it is a close play, advantage to the attacker. When you consider the two goals taken away, the US actually dominated Group Play. They now have a relatively easy run to the Semifinals as well. This is exciting stuff for sure.
  18. They talked about this on "After the Catch.' The anouncer brought it up and said they had a lot of mail asking why they would attempt something so dangerous. Every captain at the table said that was the best way to do it and if they hadn't switched boats, they wouldn't have been able to for the rest of the season. It would have gone smoothly if the weather hadn't picked back up which was kind of unexpected (though is always expected around there).
  19. I don't want to look ahead too far, but I also like our quarterfinals matchup with Urugauy or S. Korea.
  20. The Brewers are 29-40. They are not a good team.
  21. Who said he was running at 80%? I completely agree that his problems were centered around reading balls off the bat. He also seems to take his eye off the ball too early at times causing him to muff catches on grounders. Those are issues that can be corrected with proper practice and repetition (same thing for laying off low and away sliders). Not doing that is being lazy in my book.
  22. I think Phil was always showing the older son his secret spots. My guess would be that they bring in an experienced captain (like Maury? wasn't that the guy who took over for Phil when he had his original stroke) and he kinda takes the older son under his wing. Last weeks episode was one of the best hours of TV I have seen in a while. Jake's father has been missing all season but he hasn't told any of the crew and now Sig found out. Then Phil finds out his son is addicted to pain pills at the end of the episode. Pretty intense stuff. It will be interesting and sad at the same time to see the new episode. As others have said, I hope Jake and Phil at least come to some type of understanding before Phil passes away.
  23. How realistic is that when there are a lot of other cars around? I ask this seriously, I never use cruise control.
  24. How is that the fault of people who obey the speed limit? There wouldn't be any variance if everyone drove at the posted speed. I already posted that drivers tend to gravitate towards the 85th percentile (typically around 75mph). This is a mob mentality type of thing that seems to happen everywhere in the world. Why? Perhaps because everyone isn't constantly looking at their speedometer but rather where they are going, what obstacles are near the side of the road, and the vehicles around them. Or at least thats what they should be looking at and what has been proven they are typically looking at. If the government wanted us to travel at 65 mph on the freeways they should instruct the engineers to design them as such. There are plenty of ways to change people's perceptions and reduce travel speeds. This in the end would probably save as many lives as raising the speed limit though. Both methods would reduce the number of traffic tickets given out. Brewers19, it seems as though you have a great respect for the law. I in turn can respect this. However it doesn't mean the law is correct. I am just telling you that this is a law that is very difficult for an average person who drives correctly over extended distances to follow and actually puts the followers in greater danger. On top of that the people who set the speed limits know this.
