  1. Those are also things out of Mauer's control. Catchers (outside of Kendall last year) just don't play as much as they used to. I would agree with the "Top 5" of all time argument because there is just so much that has changed in the last 30 or 40 years it is hard to compare even with something like OPS+.
  2. I agree HOF4canrake. It seems like Soup and Davis are a lot more similar pitchers than Davis and Parra. I also agree that similarity shouldn't factor into the 4th and 5th spot. It seems like we are just being set up with a bunch of excuses here.
  3. While I agree the episode as a hole was a real low point, Dana disagreeing with Chloe actually made some sense to me. I figured she didn't want Chloe to be able to access the video of the crime the probation officer was looking for. I think the writters were trying to throw people in that direction. Either way, as I said before, her being a mole makes zero sense. Just so lazy and pathetic from the writers.
  4. Its usually in the high 50s that time of year in Chicago. If its sunny out, very nice to be on a rooftop during the afternoon. The prices wont go lower than that. While I am sure some have a negative opinion of Wriggleyville (I am not going to argue) but $70 for all you can eat and drink alone is a pretty good deal for this area. Add in the game and I thought it was a pretty good deal. I have 3 friends in the area who have already bought this and I would too if I could. Figured some might be interested in the experience, as I normally can't afford something like this. I will be going to a rooftop game over Memorial Day weekend for a Bachelor Party, but thats a special case. And think of this more as a box seat. You don't have to sit outside...there are lots of options on these rooftops. Anyway, I wont try to sell people, just thought some might be interested.
  5. Mods can feel free to move this to off topic, but the Groupon for Chicago today is 54% off Rooftop Tix. They end up being $70 total. These are all inclusive and are supposed to be a lot of fun. They will probably go pretty fast, but I figured I would post them here so some Brewer fans can take advantage this morning. Unfortunately, I have to take the biggest test of my Engineering career that Friday so I will be studying. Hopefully someone else can take advantage. http://www.groupon.com/
  6. Thats really not very much considering the amount of owners they have and that it was probably the best possible year revenue wise they could have had. Then factor in that they barely made it into the black the year before when the picked up CC for the playoff run. And the payroll has been raised 5 or 6 mil this year (perhaps partily due to eating Halls contract) which could very well be coming from any profit last year. Unless we have the team audited again, I think saying Mark makes a lot of money on this team is guesswork at best.
  7. Awesome if you don't think about the massive plot holes it opens up from the previous episodes. Ugg, Dana being a mole makes about zero sense. If she has been in contact with the enemy team of soldiers throughout the day so far I am sure she would keep disappearing to deal with her personal problems instead of having them take care of it. She was willing to kill her former boyfriend and his probation officer in the end. Why not just have the bad guys wipe them out or kill them when they were in her apartment. The bad guys would rather do that then have her running off into the night and potentially blowing her cover over and over again. I am sure the writers are trying to throw us off, but we shouldn't have to completely suspend logic. Just really lazy writing in my opinion. And could that ending have been more cliché? The armor wont hold...yes it will...no it wont...run for it. I know they were trying to make that an exciting episode, but with 20 minutes to go I could pretty much tell you what was going to happen. I feel like I have been saying that a lot this season.
  8. Mauer easily. The difference between Mauer and an average catcher vs. Prince and an average 1B is huge. Its not even close really.
  9. The fact of the matter is that the Twins payroll can, will be, and should be higher than the Brewers. It has little to do with a volatile income like attendance and everything to do with market size. Oh, it also has absolutely nothing to do with Billy Beane and/or Moneyball. That baiting shot is about 4 years past its prime.
  10. The problem with looking at their VORP or WAR is that those are counting stats. Typically when a player is performing at a rate near or below replacement level he won't be given the opportunity to compile a lot of negative value. Therefor, in my opinion, simply looking at players VORPs or WARs when they are near replacement level is extremely flawed. In addition, you are looking at a relatively small sample size, especially for Bush. A rate stat such as xFIP (while still flawed) will probably provide more insight into how sucky those pitchers in question were last year. Player: xFIP Para: 4.64 Bush: 4.79 Looper: 4.87 Soup: 5.26 Granted, someone like Ruz could probably provide a lot better statistical analysis, but I think some simple conclusions can be drawn here. I think a replacement level xFIP for the NL is around 5.25. So last year, even with Bush's injury, and Parra's absurdly unlucky BABIP and mental issues caused by that, both were still significantly better than Soup. In addition, going forward I would expect Soup to be the only starter on this team to perform below replacement level.
  11. ONIONS! What a big time dagger from N.Iowa.
  12. Don't forget about parking and the $8 pints of 312 at the local bars.
  13. Pujols basically said he wanted a deal like A-Rod's. I don't think STL can do that personally. Prince means a lot to the Brewers, but certain players can just price themselves out of all but a handful of markets. These same players seem to care about money a lot more than whatever city they play half their games in. Pujols deserves to have the largest contract anyway so its hard to blame him if he leaves. I agree about the bad blood between Howard and the Phillies. I suspect is has to do with Howard being left in the minors for a little longer than he wanted, then having to go to arbitration in his first year.
  14. I am sure it is already available by torrent. But I too would never do something like that...
  15. With endaround's post in front of you, when do you think Soup was hurt dadofandrew? I agree with the sentiment that he was not as bad as people make him out to be, but he is also in serious decline. Even if he was healthy all last year, I would have expected an ERA over 5. He seems to be in decline since coming to the Brewers which is to be expected. His one value could have still been to eat innings at an average clip, but now he can't even stay healthy.
  16. I agree with this and I think Doug has mentioned in the past that often times lefties take a little longer to put it togeather. Personally I like Parra because of those reasons. It has nothing to do with watching him come up through our system.
  17. They have toilets in that backwards country?
  18. Other teams do this all the time. They let their players get much more complete in AAA than rushing them up to learn on the job. The Brewers were willing to let these guys grow in the majors in the past because they were not in a playoff hunt at all. If the guy has options, why not bring him up when he will be a more complete player from the start. Now if Gamel has nothing else to learn at AAA, then thats another story. I think the organization would cross that bridge when the time comes. I don't want to speculate or worry about it now though since its not the case.
  19. MARQUETTE! Big win, wow! A third close loss to Villy would have really stung. They won the game that counted the most in the end.
  20. Coach, How does a 150 lb guy light up a radar gun like that? How tall is he? I am picturing Juan Cruz who I think is around 160, but 6'2."
  21. I can most definitely assure you that's not true. How? Because I don't care. I mean, it's nice he's having a kid, but I don't really care, and I'm not going to pass judgement. The comment about your kids only being born once also wasn't pasing judgement in MY opinion, simply stating what they'd do. So just because you feel a certain way means all others do too? This type of thing seems to come up all the time and everyone has an opinion one way or the other. I agree with you that its his decision and his alone, but I don't presume to know how everyone else feels.
  22. FWIW Parra said he had the blood pumping in the first and was overthrowing (i.e. leaving the ball up). Once he settled down he pitched much better. The guy has all the talent in the world, its up to Peterson and Parra to harness it. I sure hope when he does he is still on the Brewers.
  23. I still think he will win Big East coach of the year...at least he should.
  24. Rough loss for MU today against ND. I didn't get to see the game, but I expected a win here. I think they are in the tourny either way at this point, but I want them to go in strong. Hopefully they get a couple of wins in the Big East tourny and stay relatively fresh since they probably wont be going to their bench much from here on out.
