  1. I don't think the two are comparable at all since Prince is an every day player. Prince would probably be using Texiera as a basis for his contract extension. If the Brewers don't want to match or beat that, I think Boras will advise him to wait it out since some team might.
  2. Considering we went with DD for $5 mil who has averaged 2.17 wins over the last 3 years, I still don't see how Sheets is worth $7 mil. I think the $4 mil/win is inflated by the upper tier of pitchers. The guys who are left will probably not be paid $4 mil per win.
  3. SS and C could experience offensive upgrades as well. I think our offense will be fine and our pitching has improved dramatically...mostly from a depth perspective if nothing else. To the poster who thinks we will trade Parra now in SP, I disagree. I think our rotation is now 6-7 deep and that is needed if we are going to contend for the post season.
  4. ugg...Depaul?! What a let down after total dominance against Providence.
  5. Teams would be foolish to not expect some drop off in performance but a team can even peg him for a 4 ERA and 100 IP in 2010, he's going to deservingly get $7+ mil from someone. I just don't see how that is worth $7+ mil with the other FA signings around the league this year. And yea, I probably am reading too much into him getting tired out after 40 pitches at this point.
  6. Whats not to love about this signing. If anything, this brings us some much needed depth and gets Soup out of the rotation. We now have a fairly deep 1-6 for once.
  7. Sheets, who turns 32 in July, first threw 20 fastballs, topping out at 91 mph with his usual sinking action. After a break, he threw another 20 pitches, half of them curves. Then in his third session, his fastball topped out at 88 mph and Sheets looked "gassed." Someone is probably going to pay him 7 mil this year and get a guy who will be lucky to pitch 150 innings. If he was topping out at 91 mph and then going down quickly from there he may not be as effective. He was averaging 92-93 the last couple of years according to PitchFX, but if I recall correctly he could still get it up to the mid 90s if needed. Granted this is a very basic scouting report, but with what they are saying it doesn't sound as if he can be a very effective starter this year. Maybe he will be able to stretch things out in Spring Training though but I just don't see how he can be asking for so much money.
  8. Spoon - Transference I have been listening to the leak for a week now, and the actual CD is waiting for me at home from Amazon right now. I like it a lot and I think the critics will too. I don't think it will be as well recieved by their new casual fans and I would be as shocked if it gets as much radio airtime as the last album. It reminds me more of Girls Can Tell or Kill The Moonlight than GaGaGaGaGa or even Gimme Fiction and to me at least thats a good thing.
  9. The Brewers can't just go toe to toe with the larger market clubs. In order to be competitive every year they have to have an advantage (and it will never be in payroll). This advantage needs to be in production vs. cost. Signing Fielder to a deal that pays him what he is actually worth doesn't play to this advantage. Furthermore, it presents massive problems to a team with a $80 mil payroll as the risk of injury or lack of production is too great in one player. Braun's deal is a perfect example of this strategy, as is Pujols' current deal or Morneau's. The team shoulders some risk (but minimizes it with insurance) in exchange for getting an advantage at cost vs production from league average. Conversely, I can't think of one fair market deal handed out by a small market club that has proved to be worth it.
  10. I can't see Leno doing well. As others have said, he completely alienated the people who were indifferent and would sometimes watch. I used to be one of those people. If he had a good guest or if I was randomly watching tv and nothing else was on I would watch. Now, I will never watch his show again. I am going to assume there are a large amount of viewers like me, as the ratings show not many "die-hard" Leno fans were willing to follow him to his new time slot.
  11. Next Friday will be Conan's last show. Well I am pretty much going to boycott anything NBC related I can. I wonder what happens with Leno's rating are just as bad.
  12. I'd love to get them both. I am wondering though. I've been hearing for weeks now that Mulder is a foregone conclusion to come to Milwaukee, but if that's true why hasn't he signed yet? They had the winter meetings, then DM went on vacation. When he got back it looks like they worked him out and are not going to sit down and talk money as And That said. Seems like the proper schedule of events that would lead to a signing to me.
  13. Didn't he just open for Spoon in MKE on new years. That may have been one of his last live shows.
  14. I think the problem has more to do with the breakdowns as based to FA a couple of years ago. Now it is somewhat inflating, but in a couple of years (assuming the economy comes out of the toilet) it should be back to normal.
  15. Thats pretty much exactly what I had. I bumped up a few of them just for the sake of conservatively estimating payroll but a lot of those guys are coming off of down years or had just 1 big year (Coffey) so their salaries shouldn't jump too crazy. I think Hart will be looking for a lot more than that (even though he hasn't been worth it), so hopefully he comes to his senses without having to go to Arby.
  16. This is in need of an update, but its a good place to start: http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=tz1FL3X6KldYXIoGOHXpv6A&output=html Not counting arby, I would guess they have 30-40 mil committed to contracts. Gerut will be gone. Players like Villy could be non tendered. Weeks, Hart, and Prince will be in their last year of team control so they will most likely sign contracts to buy out a year or two of FA or be traded (but who really knows). Hart could even be non tendered if they have a minor leaguer who could put up similar numbers for 1/10th the price. I do think they will have some room to work and may decide to make a run in the last year they have Prince, especially if FA prices are as low again next year as this year. I would guess they have around $25 mil coming off the books, 10 of which will go to Arby raises. That should hopefully leave them enough to go after a FA pitcher...a lot will depend on how our young arms progress this year in the minors.
  17. I used Joomla to do my site. It probably has a steeper learning curve than Wordpress, but with a template both let you design professional looking sites in half the time.
  18. Unconventional, but McGehee or Gamel could both provide more offense and probably equal defense while being 1/10 the cost this year in RF.
  19. I can see what you are saying Casey. I get the MLB package every year with Comcast because I like to watch the games on my DVR and big screen and don't want to mess with mlb.tv. I will buy it again and recommend others do. But the concept of that stream2stream program seems interesting and I do think that type of thing is going to be more and more popular.
  20. Can you ask your friend because I can't figure out how stream2stream works at all. You have to find stations I guess and there are non listed on the website.
  21. Gut wrenching for sure, but they have to hit their free throws. As a young team in the Big East they can't expect to get any help from the refs either.
  22. Don't expect another big signing It sounds like any more moves will be for depth or via trade.
  23. I'll have to check that out, I liked their last album a lot. I am eagerly waiting for Spoon's new album that comes out mid January.
  24. If I punched someone in the face who had the flu and then 2 days later their flu went away does that mean I just discovered a cure for the flu? By applying your logic to this ridiculous scenario, it would mean I found a cure. I am not trying to be condescending, but just looking at it from a different perspective. A lot of people share your opinion, but I think its completely flawed.
  25. I remember it being fairly violent and extensive use of the word for a female dog. Other than that, it really depends on your 7 year old. Its definetly something that could be upsetting if they don't understand fiction or get too attached to characters.
