  1. Whoever touched on Chicago being viewed as a crime ridden unsafe city was right on. People just don't want to be there. What a joke. Sure there are unsafe parts, as there are in any city, but Chicago is very safe...especially in the loop and parts where the big events would be.
  2. He could very well be next year's Edwin Jackson. I would love to have him in our rotation, but am not sure why the Reds would do it.
  3. Just a reminder that season 5 starts tonight. This is absolutely the funniest show on tv, and this isn't my fan bias saying this. The show has moved on from being a cult favorite and if it received the advertising of a big network, it would be everywhere (of course it wouldn't be nearly as funny if it was on a major network though). Tonight's episode looks hilarious, as they do their take on the mortgage crisis I believe.
  4. 1. Its Always Sunny 2. 30 Rock 3. The Office I have high hopes for the new season, and think they could do well with the baby thing, but my expectations are down a little from past years.
  5. My buddy just had a dream that his wife, who is always traveling for work in real life and the dream, was always traveling to wherever the Giants were playing. He then found out by snooping around her email that she was having an affair with Edgar Renteria. He woke up startled at that point and turned over to her and confronted her (she happened to be in town that week). Luckily she thought it was funny, but I can't imagine waking up your wife to ask her if she is sleeping with Edgar Renteria. Talk about random.
  6. I still don't think Prince is a 5 win player but he will be looking to get paid as one. His BABIP is .340 so some regression should be expected. In the end, I think he is worth 3 wins and will start declining once he hits his FA years. I think there are very compelling reasons to sell high on him even though it would really hurt the team in the short run.
  7. Thanks pitchleague. I had always heard that side arm was actually easier on the arm, so your post suprised me. I can see how it would hurt the elbow, but I am sure there are methods of pitching that way to take the stress off of it. Personally, I always threw a very low 3/4 as a pitcher, but coaches always said my throwing style seemed more suited to IF than pitcher.
  8. Wow, that site is fantastic. Thanks Ennder.
  9. This came from a debate I was having with a friend. I told him that I wouldn't put Hardy in my top 5 defensive SS list and that I don't trust defensive metrics. He asked me what my list would be and how I would quantify it. I didn't have a very good answer for him since I just don't see a lot of baseball outside of the NL central but my thought is to base it of of defensive scouting reports over statistics. Off of reputation, I would assume my list would include Andrus, Reyes, Tulo, ATL's Escobar, and Furcal. I think HRam has made great strides as well recently. If you were to make a list of top defensive SS, what would it be and where would Hardy (and Escobar for that matter) be?
  10. I think any position player is more of a sure thing than a pitcher due to injury risk.
  11. I've never heard this in regard to injury before, or is it something you specifically see in Stetter's delivery? If you have more information on this I would like to see it. It seems like plenty of sidearm pitchers have had success as starters and I have even heard that it is a more natural motion health wise. I think the reason you see more releaver sidewinders is because they can come in as a change of pace and fool one or two batters. This would be somewhat diminished a couple of times through the order, and that is why I don't think Stetter would be successful, especially against righties.
  12. Well I ended up getting heat exaustion on Saturday, but the rest of the time was a lot of fun. I wish the weather had cooperated a little more, but I can't wait for next year.
  13. Anybody going? I got a 3 day pass and am pretty pumped. The weather report looks raining and hot, but it hopefully wont be too bad. The headliners aren't as good this year as the last either, but the middle acts are much stronger in my opinion. I am planning to see Manchester Orchestra, Bon Iver, Ben Folds, Decemberists, Kings of Leon, Atmosphere, Ben Harper, Alberta Cross, RaRa Riot, Cage the Elephant, Vampire Weekend, Dan Auerbach, Snoop Dogg, and Jane's among others. Should be a fun weekend.
  14. The best way to get a consistent offense is to consistently face bad pitching. The best way to achieve that is to take pitches and get into the bullpen or be playing the Nationals 162 games a year.
  15. I don't really get what the Reds were trying to do, so they would get my vote.
  16. I guess the only reason I brought up the grammer stuff is that running it through Word would probably solve all the problems, which takes just a couple of seconds. I don't think thats necessary for a post on a messageboard, but for a blog to be taken seriously, I think it is important. I see it has already been updated and the new post looks much better. Keep up the good work!
  17. He's the 3rd best hitter on the team this year behind Braun and Fielder. How do you figure that? He is behind Fielder, Braun, McGehee, Weeks, and Cameron in OPS in which half of his games have been at 3rd base where his defense is somewhat negated. Also, I wouldn't be suprised if Hart and Lopez catch him by the end of the season.
  18. I really like the colors and layout of your site. I only had time to skim the first article on Vargas, but I noticed 4 gramatical errors right away. That's fine for a messageboard post, but to be perfect honest, I probably wouldn't take a blog very seriously with that many mistakes in such a short post. If you are majoring in journalism, perhaps you could work that in and talk about your experiences and what you are learning in addition to reporting your opinions on the Brewers. I think it would be interesting to hear your story in addition to your opinions. I would love to be a sports journalist, but didn't go that route. I suspect a lot of other people feel the same way and would be interested in that take on the Brewers. Hope that helps, and I will continue to check in from time to time.
  19. Disney has destroyed a once enjoyable network through ruthless cross promotion and corporate selling out. In addition, I agree that they are becoming a People Magazine for men, because they think that is what sells. Personally, I think its the wrong way to go, as almost all of my friends prefer MLB network durring baseball season. That being said, they must be having some success because they seem to be getting worse and worse.
  20. Prince should absolutely be expecting a Tex like deal. Offensively, he has been the superior player thus far in his career.
  21. Inside the park home runs?Supposedly, he would have a very good chance of winning. I think he has turned down requests to enter the derby several times in the past.
  22. Thanks for the suggestions guys. I am looking into all of these places.
  23. I got a short response from Hunt's editor yesterday night basically saying I had an interesting letter. A friend of mine also got a direct response from Hunt, so yea...they do read their email. In terms of the Braun/Hardicourt thing, I do think Tom embellished a story there, as the tone of his blog post was much different than the MLB story by McCalvey and Braun himself said his quotes were taken out of context. Looking back, it looks like Tom just posted in his blog, but Witardo actually wrote the article, so it makes me blame the paper as a whole even more. I apologize for the thread title if it offended anyone. I have called the JS that for years and assumed it was a common Milwaukee inside joke as I hear it all the time, even from JS employees. For people to take the time to post in this thread saying it makes me personally look like a jerk or that I need to be more mature is surprising to say the least, but to each their own. I will change the thread title as my intent was to inspire a discussion on the quality of the JS's sports reporting, not entice personal attacks or be offensive, so in that regard I clearly failed. Moving on, I hope anyone offended will now look at the baseball reporting discussion here.
  24. Oh, I only wrote that I liked his work to get his attention. I will read his articles to pass the time over my lunch break, but I would rather put my hand in a toaster for the most part.
