  1. Well the whole buying a scalped bracelet thing kinda backfired on me. 3 Day Passes were sold out by Friday and very few people were selling tickets. The ones they were selling were going for around $300. I managed to get a guy down to $180 so me and my two friends got them, went in and had a great time on Friday. Saturday we got down there early to see Dr. Dog, only to have our bracelets taken off at the gate and security escort us out because they were fake. This happened to a bunch of other people I know too...all of whom payed around $250. Next year I will just be buying one well ahead of time. On the plus side, I did get to see the Black Keys, Rancontours, and Radiohead, but of course not worth the $180 I payed for it.
  2. The drummer is so awesome live. They both work damn hard phyically to put out that sound. I would go to the Metro (saw them at the Vic 3 months ago) but can't afford that in addition to Lolla. I may have to check out Okkervil River...I have heard good things about them, just haven't had a chance to listen to them yet.
  3. Anyone else going? I am for sure seeing Manchester Orchestra, The Black Keys, Ranconteurs, and Radiohead on Friday. Saturday is a bunch of bands I am not too excited about, but ending with Rage Against the Machine (who I saw at Alpine last year) should be awesome. Sunday is the best day of the bunch with Newton Faulkner, Black Kids, G. Love, Flogging Molly, Gnarls Barkley, The National, and Kanye if I am still awake. I am most excited about the Black Keys, Rage, and The National, who I think would be worth the price of a scalped ticket (hopefully around $100) alone.
  4. I am done with Apple for various reasons. I can't wait until next week when I switch to Verizon and get a LG Dare.
  5. Schlitz tried to come up with a new, more cost effective and quicker formula for their beer that turned out to be their downfall. Bork was right in that it was the #1 Beer in the country, but was loosing ground to Bud at the time and I believe fell behind just before that ill-fated busoness decision. The new Schlitz is the original formula put out by a guy who was in love with the old beer. They started it out in Tampa, Minn, and then the Northside of Chicago before they opened the MKE market a week or two ago. I live on the north side of Chicago so I have been enjoying it for a while...of course, I didn't mind the old formula too much either. It is nice to be able to get it in bottles or tap though. I would recomend everyone gives it a try.
  6. If I could get a Molson Ice, i would be a very happy man.
  7. I really don't get why people think we would have to give up LaPorta or Gamel to get CC. That never happens anymore. Even if the trade was to occure at the beginning of the year (similar to the Mets-Twins swap for Santana) I would question giving up one of these two. If it happens, it will be a combination of 2 of our 4-6 prospects with a major leaguer or two lower level prospects thrown in. The reason we are high up on these lists is because the level of talent we have at 4-6 is very high (or much higher than the other interested teams). Keep in mind Escobar would be the #1 prospect for a lot of teams and a guy like Luis Pena has a tremendous amount of value around the league.
  8. Is there a store in MKE or Chicago where I can find Zotes. Those flavors look amaizing. Especially the ones with cafeen infused in them. Now I can finally eat seeds for breakfast. Right now I am snacking on David's BBQ, my favorite.
  9. People are seriously undervaluing Laporta and overvaluing renting CC. Laporta has been Braun-esq so far in the minors. No reason to trade him when no other team is going to give up a prospect of his status. Lets trade our spare parts they can use for their rather large spare part...or not mess with success and wait until the offseason.
  10. I was at the game where Yo got hurt, and many of the Cubs fans were being huge jags about it; clapping and cheering while he layed on the ground or whenever they kept showing the replay. I am not going to sink to that level, because frankly it was disgusting. I will say that in my head I am happy the Brewer's chances may have improved, but I would never wish an injury on someone or cheer for it. There are things that go beyond the game, and someone feeling pain is someone feeling pain. I hate that part of it, but like him not pitching.
  11. There is almost no noticable difference in strategy between the NL and AL anymore, there is no reason for the pitchers to be batting. The only strategy you add is whether or not to pinch hit for the pitcher in the middle innings and which PH's to use first and the majority of the time these are trivial choices. I'll be very happy when the NL adapts the DH down the line and I'm almost sure they will do it eventually. Don't hold your breath on the NL adopting the DH. Since moving to Chicago, I've been watching a lot of Sox games with Sox fans and the stratigic differences in the AL are very apparent. Not only that, but most fans of AL teams seem to like NL baseball much better. Ozzie probably doesn't even know what a double switch is.
  12. Clicking through on the Link Report worked for me. I have been here for a year and this is my first day logging onto the Boards. My computer at home blew up 3 weeks ago so I have been reading things on my Wii or my cell phone since then. This is much better.
  13. "All my athletes took it," BALCO founder Victor Conte said of an over-the-counter supplement he claimed mimicked Viagra. "It's bigger than creatine. It's the biggest product in nutritional supplements." I wonder if he is just refering to a no suplement?
  14. Sheets throws a 4-seam fastball with no movement and an unhittable 6-12 hammer curve. It is suprising that he hasn't broken any bats in that long, but I agree that his pitching repetroir doesn't really allow for it.
  15. First of all, I will say that JJ has always been my favorite player since he was in the low minors. Second, I have always been calling him VaJJ just because its funny, but thats besides my main point. I think Hardy is a very good player who has had a string of bad luck and freak injuries that have limited his effectiveness. His rookie year, he started playing well once he trusted his shoulder. The next year he started hot but hurt his ankel. Last year he busted out even hotter (MVP type hot) but fell off probably due to not having played a full meaningful season ever. This year, he gets the flu and looses 10 lbs right before the season starts. For a guy that usually starts hot and uses those first months to boost his overall stats, that could be a major reason for his current decline. I could see him becoming a very good player when he is finally healthy and used to playing a full season at a very demanding position. Sure it sounds like I am making excuses, but the flashes have been there and he has had a lot working against him (more than Weeks). I think he will still turn into the star I thought he would be at some point, but probably just for a few years.
  16. If you don't eat any carbohydrates during the week, but still eat enough protein and lots of fat, your body will have no choice but to burn dietary and body fat as fuel. This type of diet isn't for people who just want to loose weight, but more for people who want to loose fat, but keep muscle for athletics and such. Also, I don't think many people can go long without craving carbs and it could be dangerous for someone with heart issues or high cholesterol. I have done it the past three weeks and will keep doing it for the next several to hopefully get a little leaner and quicker for softball, but its not easy. I have however lost at least 4 pounds while maintaining or getting stronger in the gym.
  17. Someone needs to step up to the plate and rock the Horace Greeley: http://www.explorepahistory.com/images/ExplorePAHistory-a0b9d5-a_349.jpg Can you even imagine how much ankle this guy used to get back in the day...especially after he told all the young men to go west, thereby eliminating the competition. (Wow, 8th grade History actually just came in handy.)
  18. I think that a lot of people wanted the stadium built where MSOE built their big athletic facility (The Kern Center?). Its where that church used to be just across the street from Brothers and the Corner on Water Street. I like MP where it is. When I went to Marquette, I could just catch a bus after class on Wisconsin St. that would take me from my door to the game and back super easy. We could have a few drinks before hand, a few at the game, then head out to Marquette bars or down to Water after the game. I know a lot of younger people did and still do the same thing. If they ever got that light rail system up and running people would probably use that more, but the bus makes it easy to enjoy a game, then head out downtown afterwards without driving. As has been said though, the tailgating culture means you can't have the stadium downtown. KC is probably the same. Lets face it, you can't tailgate in a parking garage.
  19. My buddy kept texting me the lyrics to the song last night. Neither of us had ever heard of Rickrolling until I saw this thread this morning. We just always talked about the song because it was a joke on the first season of "Its Always Sunny In Philadelphia."
  20. As a very upset alum, I've been holding off on comment to avoid the cuss filter, but I can't take it anymore after his pompous interview on Mike and Mike this morning. Good ridins to that jag. I am excited to see where the program goes from here. They have a ton of money, great practice facilities, and no real competition in a major city for late winter fans (Bucks don't count anymore).
  21. FSN is going to end up paying a lot[/u] more for the Brewers going forward. That is a big reason why we are going to be able to afford some of our young players. Where are you getting this from? Its my understanding that Wendy signed a terrible deal with FSN locking us in for the next 4-5 years.
  22. It's more like 5 1/2 pitchers. Sheets doesn't count as 1, either. Vargas only pitched 134 innings last year people, so he doesn't exactly count as a full pitcher either. His career ERA is around 5.00 and his VORP last year was 8.6 (less than a win above replacement level). I would hope that should an injury occur we could call up any number of AAA players or make a trade to get similar production for a fraction of the cost.
  23. The problem I saw from this season was their tendency to kick out & rely on the 3, though, as opposed to actually going to the rim. I know they do go to the rim, but not nearly as much (from what I watched) as they opt to kick. When you rely on the trey, your offense instantly has an achilles heel, obviously. I think a lot of this has to do with teams playing a zone against them. Really, there is no reason not to play a zone against MU's offense. When teams would do this, their only means of scoring becomes the long range jumpers or points off turnovers and transition baskets off misses on the other end. For someone who is more in tune with NBA basketball, any chance McNeal goes pro this year? I didn't see him leaving until after his senior year, but someone at work was saying he thinks he could be drafted in the first round. I disagree, but this isn't really something I know much about. I still don't understand why Tucker wasn't a lottery pick last year when he was one of the best players in the NCAA.
