  1. Homer: "Public transportation is for jerks and lesbians."
  2. Blocked. What bothers me is that they block most sites during the day, but at lunch almost every site I like to visit except Brewerfan.net is available. I asked IT, but they are jerks and said it was blocked because nobody likes the Brewers. Theres not much I can say right now since the Cubs are in first place. Sometimes I really hate Illinois.
  3. Shootings, eh...might make me feel right at home again, like I never left good old Marquette. PS. Buffalo Joe's really is pretty good.
  4. http://www.bgsu.edu/colleges/library/crc/webquest/OutsidersWebQuest/pictures/outsiders2.jpg The Outsiders: Think about it, were the greasers, the Cubs are the evil Socs. This last weekend was the fire, but the rumble is still to come.
  5. While I graduated from MU, I live in Evanston now...great town (even though it needs more liquor stores). Do you guys know of any bars that show Brewer's games around here? It doesn't seem like there are any sports bars, let alone a place that would show a Brewer game and sometimes I just don't feel like going into the city after a long day of work.
  6. While his glory years were a little before my time, I can recognize his true genius and the way he changed offense. He also spawned many great coaches and leaves behind quite the legacy.
  7. I just read this article in question, and it got at me a little too. It starts out by saying that "Astros centerfielder Hunter Pence leads all rookies who quality for the batting title in average, slugging, doubles and triples..." As of today (7/22/07) their lines are: Hunter Pence (avg/obp/slg/ops) AB/HR (.330/.355/.564/.919) 312/12 Ryan Braun (.338/.387/.657/1.035) 201/15 Obviously both have been playing great ball so far this season, but Braun is the superior player thus far. I think once he qualifies for the batting title and starts showing up on these lists, people will realise how good he has been. My question is, can anyone tell me how many ABs or what percent you need to qualify and at his current pace, when should Braun have enough?
  8. At this point, I wouldn't even be suprised if his next injury was: http://www.craphound.com/images/diedofdysentery.jpg
  9. I am guessing this is a reaction to him watching his HR tonight that cleared the top of the wall by 3 feet. He should have been running that out and I hope one of the vets or even Prince said something to him. Even an older player should have been running, but when you have only been in the league a couple months, its going to look even worse. Other than that, I love the guy.
  10. Clearly Ted Hendry felt sympathy towards the Brewers after Sheets went on the DL. Obviously he's trying to level the playing field so the Cubs don't gain an advantage for that. I guess Kendall could come over and really out-hit my expectations and make me look dumb (not too difficult) Not too difficult at all when its Jim Hendry :-) I agree that this is a brutally bad trade for the Cubs, but they have proved me wrong before with some of their midseason acquisitions. Correct me if I am wrong, but Kendall has been a great second year player the last couple of years. Maybe he actually pulls off a .280 avg and .330 obp the rest of the way...probably not though.
  11. Let me just start by saying that today my father found out he was in remission from his Leukemia, which is obviously some of the best news I have heard in my entire life. It looked pretty bad only 2 years ago though, but things can really turn around. As others have said, research and background knowledge is your best weapon. My mom and dad learned everything they could about Leukemia and it for sure saved my father's life. Don't rely on the doctors to take care of everything, because in my dad's case they simply didn't. Its amazing how many different perspectives and opinions you can get even in the same hospital and how lazy and uncaring some nurses/schedulers can be. Get as much help as you can, know what the options are, and have a plan. The best help you can give besides emotional support is to keep her as physically healthy as possible. Chemo is obviously not a fun experience, but it is the best way to fight the cancer. The problem is, at least with my dad, that they reduce the chemo depending on how sick you are. My mom and I, her especially, had to drive it into my father how healthy he had to eat, that he constantly had to wash his hands and carry around hand sanitizer, and that he couldn't drink or eat candy anymore. Through the winter everything would make him sick, so he had to stay away from my brother's school and pass through the waiting room at the doctors as quick as possible. In the end, he fought through it and I hope your mother can too. Now is not the time to feel helpless though...its the time to be proactive. Best wishes.
  12. She spends the night and he likes hanging out with his friends. Seems like a great solution would be for him to go hang out with his friends, then meet up for the booty call at the end of the night. Hey, its what got me through college...and not all girls enjoy hanging out with the guys. EDIT: Please note that my advise should be taken with a grain of salt since I am pretty sure I know less about women than anyone else in the world...ever.
  13. A guy I used to work with wanted to get ILUVTHC. When I explained to him he would get pulled over at pretty much every block, he said he would just tell the cops that THC was his wifes initials. While I haven't seen him in several years, would be willing to bet he now lives under an overpass.
  14. Did anyone see Spoon at Summerfest. Maybe it was just the beer, but that was an awesome show.
  15. I can't believe its going to be all up to the Cubs to get us home field in the World Series.
  16. It seems like just a few weeks ago when everyone was calling for Bush to be sent to the pen/traded/DFA'd, but now he is the second best pitcher on the team. Its a 162 game season and that is what the people in charge understand. Average fans (i.e. Belling) operate on the "what have you done for me lately" attitude. There is no reason to believe that in 2 months, Cappy and Soup wont be carrying the team into their playoff push.
  17. Is it even dial up speeds? I would think its like my Tmobile MDA which is capable of around ISDN speeds. Yea...I just went old school.
  18. though I get the feeling Villanueva will get traded eventually, sooner than later, since Melvin has shown he's willing to trade relievers for needed pieces and replace them easily. Yea...I couldn't disagree with this more. Carlos is part of our long term plans for sure. I think the real question here in the short term is if the bullpen help Parra can bring back is better than the help he will provide in a late season callup. The only real trade I can see this team making would be if Parra was included with some other good prospects (Gwynn, Jackson, some lower level guys) for a big time releaver (Texas has a couple). Otherwise, just bring up Parra and maybe Thatcher to pitch with Villy and Yo...all of a sudden thats a pretty good bullpen going into the playoffs with Turnbow and Coco still at the backend.
  19. Most likely my next phone While I haven't done much research, this seems like it could be better than the iPhone, cheaper, and somewhat unique. It will probably take some more knowledge and not work as well out of the box, but if your willing to do some work, it could perhaps exceed the usefulness of the iPhone. If nothing else, there is another option.
  20. Your saying to listen to The National if I like Spoon? I will for sure check them out then since Spoon is my favorite band. Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga really is pretty good and its growing on me. Its not as good as "Girls Can Tell" but I would agree its better than "Gimme Fiction." I am surprised Fiction turned you off Spoon though, that had some truly great songs on it. It was a little more mainstream than their other stuff, but thats to be expected. Ga seems even more mainstream to me, but very very good. About Challengers...wow. I usually don't like the tracks the guy from Destroyer does, but I can't stop listening to Myriad Harbor. The only downside is that its taking time away from me listening to "Ga Ga." If you have time, go to The New Pornographers website and read Neuman's description/explanation of each song. He just sounds crazy intelligent and knows more about music than I could ever hope to. It makes me appreciate his solo album even more and I wish he would do another after he is done touring with the New Pornographers.
  21. Thought I would bring this back. The new New Pornographers (thats weird to type) cd Challengers comes out next month I believe and it can be had on the internet. So far I like what I hear, and I have to say it sounds very "clean," especially compared to their other albums. I am not sure if thats a result of better recording technology or them using almost all instruments as opposed to any synthesizer. Maybe a combo of both. I will definitely be listening through this over the next couple of days and be purchasing it when it comes out. My favorite band Spoon also has a new album out in July called Ga ga ga ga ga. I am listening through right now and am pretty happy as I am on the third song. My buddy said it "sucked" so I am a little nervous, but so far I like it. I don't think I could not like any of their music though.
  22. Your absolutely right rluz, an objective conversation is difficult and I am bias. I hope I didn't come off too strong, but to answer your question on MS products I have owned: Windows 95, 98, 2000, ME, XP, Mobile 5, Office, IE, a couple of keyboards and mice, and every flight sim except the last one. I am not a big fan of any of those OS's and would switch to linux/apple if I wasn't so lazy. I have all logitech peripherals for my computer now but I didn't have any real problems with the MS stuff. Mobile 5 seems really buggy on my phone. Firefox is amazing compared to IE, and I have switched to Openoffice and love it. I am basing my MS "hate" on the fact that where other options are available, they have always worked much better for me. MS is everywhere though, so a lot of times their products are unavoidable.
  23. I have had the Tmobile MDA for over a year now. Its basically a bigger, slower iPhone that runs on Windows Mobile5. I can say without a doubt that the keypad thing is not an issue. I can dial numbers without looking or "feeling" buttons being pressed. Of course, how often do you actually dial numbers anymore into a phone. The iPhone definatly looks cool, but there is suppose to be another phone that runs linux and will be completely customizable and unlocked for any carrier. I was thinking that will be my next phone, but I haven't really looked into it yet.
  24. Architecture wise, the Gamecube/wii has no comparison to the PS3 or 360. What is it, one circuit board with SD memory? I don't mean to infer that MS didn't design a sub par system (there have been systematic issues, for sure), reliability wise, but let's compare apples to apples, please. The more sophisticated an electronic component is, the better the chance something goes wrong. Wasn't the Gcube on par with the XBox and more powerful than the PS2? It then turned out to be much more reliable, which is no surprise really. I can understand what you are saying...there is just a lot more things to go wrong when something gets more complicated. As a consumer though, I think its a cop out. I support Nintendo because their systems just plain work. I support Sony because even though their track record isn't as good as Nintendo's, everyone of their products I have personally owned works for years, while every Microsoft product I have ever owned has not worked well. Just my two cents as a general consumer who is willing to spend quite a bit of money on electronics. I am sure you know more about the specifics of the hardware than I do though rluz.
  25. My Atari 2600 could not be killed either. Of course, to compare the old systems to the new consoles, which are basically high powered PCs, is unfair. To compare the old systems to any new console made by Sony or Microsoft would be unfair. I will second the solid construction of the Wii and GCube. I can't personally complain about any of Sony's systems, but I know some people had trouble with the PS2s. Mine still works great, and I use it as a DVD player in my bed room.
