  1. You could get lucky and be laid off like me. Today is my last day. Honastly, this couldn't have possibly worked out better...well maybe if I kept my job I guess.
  2. I would also recomend the Purple Line/Red Line. I live two blocks off the last stop on it before Howard and take it all the time to the loop or to Wrigley. My problem with the Yellow Line is that it runs at odd times. I would honastly just drive to Howard and park in the garage (its safe there...dont walk around outside at night if you dont like getting jacked). Its probably quicker and easier than the Yellow Line, alhtough that is easy to find since its just off the Interstate at the Dempster exit.
  3. For all the crap Svuem takes about sending too many runners and being agressive, I think he does a lot of behind the sceans work in terms of defensive positioning and scouting. It could be argued that our defense is terrible, but I am just saying that there is a reason he was picked...although I would guess Simba was offered the position and turned it down.
  4. Who knows whats going on internally. It wouldn't be too suprissing if Yost is riding his guys way too hard, and they are happy/looser now that he is gone. Didn't some of the players basically say last year that he was just way too hard on the young guys so they were standing up for them when that dugout fight happend?
  5. its been all over Chicago Radio for like the last 5 min.
  6. The sprinting in from the bullpen thing is something for the 90s (didn't a Brewer used to do that?) Ray King?
  7. The only way to lengthen out Seth would be to put him in the rotation, as he's out of options. Were you suggesting to go with your 6th best starter as you contend? I am suggesting that I (as well as many others in the "Limit Parra's Innings" thread) thought that not only would he hit a wall, but also put his long term health into jeopardy before the season was out. The guy has a great future, but due to his past he just hasn't pitched many innings. Should they have gone with Seth (their 6th best starter)? Maybe for a few of Parra's starts, yes. Especially if it keeps your 3rd or 4th best starter available for the last month of the season instead of turning him into your 6th best starter. Otherwise, doesn't Villy still have options? Stretching him out at the end of last year worked great. And a Defilice start or two wouldn't have been the end of the world. I am not mindlessly bashing Ned here. I think a lot of us brought up these points in the past and now they appear to be coming true.
  8. Its too bad they didn't see this coming and try to lengthen out Seth like they did with Villy last year. I hate saying "I told you so" but I wish the organization (aka Ned) knew what the rest of us did months ago.

  10. The Power Of Love - Huey Lewis and the News Hello I Love You - The Doors I'll Make Love to You - Boyz II Men Hey Lover - LL Cool J The Love - Tribe Called Quest Love and Happiness - Al Green I'm Still In Love With You - Al Green Maybe I'm Amazed - Paul McCartney and Wings Marvin Gaye - Let's Get It On Crazy Love - Van MOrrison All of My Love - Led Zepplin Baby I Need Your Loving - The Four Tops Standing In The Shadows of Love - THe Four Tops Happy Togeather - The Turtles Crazy Little Thing Called Love - Queen Nighttime - Josh Rouse Love Vibration - Josh Rouse You Got Me - The Roots Could You Be Loved - Bob Marley I Wanna Love and Treat You Right - Bob Marley Caress Me Down - SUblime Better Together - Jack Johnson Love - G. Love and the Special Sauce Your Touch - Black Keys Have Love Will Travel - Black Keys Your Touch - Black Keys I'll Be Your Man - Black Keys Obviously, I will be trimming this down in addition to adding songs that people suggest. As you can see, I like the Black Keys a lot. I think they will work well on the cd though because everyone either likes them or has not heard them yet. EDIT: And it will be for sure starting with Huey Lewis and the News.
  11. A little background before I ask for help with this task: Last weekend I was in a limo for a bachelor party. Knowing that nobody else would think of it, I was planning to make a mix cd for the ride (clubby-ish songs that don't suck), but I ran out of time so we were forced to listen to the radio...obviously not ideal when your pimping around town in a limo but nobody was mad at me since they didn't think of making one until we were listening to commercials. Next weekend, I have a wedding (not the same guy as the limo bachelor party) that I am standing up in. We are suppose to ride in a limo from the Church to the reception and I don't want to be caught listening to the radio again. My plan is to suprise everyone by pulling out a CD when we get in the limo and give it to the married couple afterwards as a sort of joke gift. I am well known by my friends as the person who takes something small like this and blows it out of proportion; so this is sorta a joke, but I also want it to be a nice thing for them. Last night I sat down and came up with a preliminary list of "love songs" that I like and I think the couple would like too. I have listed them below. You may notice the common theme is that they are more upbeat and not at all sappy. Everyone in the wedding party is between 21-27 so I want this cd to rock out more than be romantic. I want some of the songs to be a little funny/suprising when they come on too. Below is my preliminary list. Please, if you can think of anything else post it here. I have rhapsody and can check out any song. I know there is a lot of musical knowledge here in addition to baseball knowledge. Also note that I am not necessarily going for obscurity here, as I know there is a very large range of musical interests (i.e. a lot of hipsters) on this site. I want people to be able to sing along or at least know the song that is playing for the most part. If nothing else, this is a good spot to list love songs that aren't lame. Thanks for any help.
  12. I think the concern is more with white grains, not with dairy. For example, swiss cheese is not worse than colby. Yogurt has digestive enzymes in it which are very good for you.
  13. thebruce...I'd like to hear about your diet. Would you mind sharing? I don't mind sharing, but again...it isn't for everyone. Similar to what dannyjnoonan said, I get all my carbs from veggies...and by all my carbs, I mean less than 30 a day. This is basically known as a Ketogenic diet, and it works great for me. Its like atkins for athlets because you "carb up" once a week so your muscles still have glycogen in them for athletics. (Also this lets me still drink with my friends on the weekends and eat mac and cheese and nachoes once a week since those are my favorite meals.) I decided to give Keto a try and after a rough first week my body adapted wonderfully to burring fat as a fuel source. When you eat a traditional low fat diet, your body burns dietary carbs and then muscle and fat both when it runs out of dietary carbs. If you are eating at a caloric defecit, you will loose some muscle because of this, no matter how careful you are. When your body is burning dietary or body fat as its only fuel source, you don't have to worry nearly as much about muscle loss. With keto, I managed to loose 15 lbs and remain as strong as I was before at every major lift. The real benefit for me was that I now have more energy, no acne, no bloating or "gas," and just feel a lot better in general. I fell to my goal weight and greatly exceeded how much of my strength I wanted to retain. After hitting my goal, last week I decided to start bulking again and switched back to eating lots of protien and carbs, only to have all the old familiar problems arise. I was practically falling asleep an hour after lunch every day at my desk, felt bloated, and had some acne come back. This week, and for the forseeable future, I will be sticking to under 30 grams of carbs a day while I bulk. Yea...this means eating a lot of fat and protien, but there is a lot of healthy fat out there (eggs, olive oil, flax, peanut butter). A lot of people have also had great success with this type of diet (which isn't technically Keto anymore). I couldn't possibly describe the entire Keto diet and am in no way trying to convince people to give it a try. It goes against a lot of long held beliefes about health and diet, but there is also a lot of sound reasearch behind it and I know for a fact that my body functions better this way. Many people's probably wont. Still, many races throughout time have relied on high protien and fat diets (actually much more so than todays high carb, moderate protien, low fat diet) and I can now see why. **As a side note, I pretty much agree with everything that dannyjnoonan said, except that my mom has had great success with the WiiFit that I bought her. She has very bad arthritis and is too embarased to do aerobics and a gym for fear that she will get shooting pain in front of other people. She has also had a lot of trouble with her tred mill. She will do it because she can't stand not being in shape, but then she is miserable with pain several hours later. WiiFit has worked great for her so far. Sure its not the best exercise, but everyone has different goals and its a great first (or only) step for a lot of people. Dannyjnoonan, you clearly know what you are talking about, but not everyone can use food strictly as fuel. Not everyone can make the same sacrifices or even enjoy making them. For me to change my diet and eat as fuel is not a big deal because I have never really enjoyed eating. I don't criticise people for not eating the way I do, and you shouldn't critisise the way someone else works out just because its something that you are good at. Small steps are better than no steps at all.
  14. that said, if you choose to build some muscle, do what Crew07 suggested and do some core exercises, ones like dips and pullups and squats that target a bunch of muscle groups at once. you don't have to join a gym to do those. I think what Game05 is suggesting is "compound" excersises. Dips, pullups, bench press, and squats will work more muscles in less time and allow you to lift heavier weights. It is also safer for a beginner and more efficient overall. Whatever route you decide to go, the key is to find something you can stick with. It sounds like you have tried to get in better shape before and not been successful. If you really want to change, you need to "adjust" your lifestyle to become more healthy. Even if it is only small changes, it is better than nothing. Personally, I know I hate running. I find it boring and painful. Now, if I am chasing down a flyball in softball, skiing down a mountain, or playing soccer, I seem to not notice how much I hate cardio because my mind is on the task at hand. That, combinded with eating a diet most hear would think is crazy, is what seems to be working well for me. Most people are not willing to completly adjust what they eat like I have though. Sill, I know a lot of people who put on a bit of a gut after college and were able to make significant improvments from small changes and "sacrifices." You just have to adjust your "sacrifices" to fit your level of will power. (I have one friend who lost 15 lbs just from drinking 3 diet cokes a day instead of 5 regular cokes.) I enjoy eating healthy, and now if I eat some junk food or even fast food, I honastly don't enjoy it at all. Thats how I know that its more of a lifestyle instead of a diet, which I think is very important. If I was in your position, I would eat around 2,500 cals a day, lift weights 3 days a week for 30-45 min, and loose 1.5-2 lbs per week. If you are lifting correctly, the majority of that weight loss will be fat. If you just eat less and do cardio without lifting, you will be loosing fat and muscle. Thats just my 2 cents though. Everyone has different goals and ideas of healthy...I hope you can figure out what yours is and achieve it.
  15. I live in Chicago (1 Block into Evanston). My cab driver was from Somalia and was listening to Somalian music...I played some K'aan on my phone for him and accused him of not knowing how messed up his country was...we had a long talk even after he dropped me off about war and Black Hawk Down and mostly about soccer (and how muuch france sucks)...yea, Im hammered.
  16. Charlie from Its Always Sunny Vic Mackie from The Shield Jack D. From The Office Maxwell Smart from Get Smart The Wiggam family from The Simpsons Bender from Futurama
  17. We have been talking about uploading Soup on someone. I just don't see why we would want to add another similar contract to the rotation?
  18. Al, Why do you think they will go after another back of the rotation starter. I know its been established that those pitchers have some value, but do we really want another Soup taking up $10 mil per when our young core gets into their arby years? If they are going to add SPs, I hope it is for an ace or a future ace. Doug has constantly talked about "quality" for "quantity" and I think that is the stage we are at right now with the lineup and the rotation.
  19. I still can't believe he won the MVP award last year. What a joke that has become, especially after Morneau. I wouldn't want him on the Brewers, but I would guess some GM would value his counting stats and give him more than he is worth.
  20. A "designated hitter." I know, I know, it sounds crazy but I think it would work.
  21. Using Bill Schroeder to back up a your ideas on baseball is like using Marge Schott to backup ideas on race relations.
  22. Yes, indeed. I was thinking of that Tao guy. I'll stick with the Brewers here instead of weird philosophy that Toby tries to use all the time. I don't want to pile on (and you seem to have a good sense of humor about the whole thing Tuesdays) but it makes it harder for me to seriously consider your argument when you admit to not being at all familiar with basic argumentative skills and shrug it off. The fact of the matter is that at this stage of his career, Counsell should be nothing more to this team then an option to spell some of the middle infielders to keep them fresh for the stretch run. The statistics with regards to offense and defense in the short term, as well as the long (3 year average) term, have been presented and prove this point decisively. Not only have we shown on this message board that Counsell getting repeated starts at 3rd is a bad idea, but Counsell himself seems to know this. We are still winning games, so some might say we are just nitpicking here. We are also playing a very easy stretch of schedule and are winning in spite of Yost's tinkering. If he is planning to go back to proper management and actually play his best players when we play the Cubs and Cardinals, I still will not be able to let this go, as it is causing our important players to loose any rhythm or momentum they may have had. Right now it is nothing short of mind bogglingly stupid on Yost's part and the fact that we are winning games should not cause people to look the other way.
  23. Either way, I would think its common knowledge that they always tried to downplay Sheets injuries in the past several years.
  24. Good job, now get some rest 'cause your starting at third tomorrow night.
  25. I was at an Atmosphere concert in college where he got the entire crowd to chant along with that song...then made fun of everyone for listening to him when he told them to chant along. Regardless, I love Rage and think that them at least having a message is far superior to the other 98% of bands out there. Even without a message, I would still listen to them (hell, I even like Audioslave) because of how amaizing Morrello is. If its not your thing, its not your thing, but you should acknowledge that they are an increadably large draw and have done pulled some pretty amaizing stunts in the past to get their point across. In regard to bringing in food and drinks, you could only bring in sealed water bottles, but everyone snuck stuff in. I thought the price was pretty reasonable frankly. $60 per day? I worked it out to something like $7 a concert for all the bands I wanted to see. If that isn't a good deal to you, I don't know what to tell you. I realise your not trying to be rude bikage, but it seems like you had a pretty negative opinion of Lolla before your first post in this thread. Maybe it isn't for you, and thats fine, but for a lot of people it was a really great experience at a reasonable price. I can't wait for next year.
