  1. I am a fan of the way that this jersey looks but am not a huge fan of having a ton of "alternate" jerseys generally speaking. I am inclined to think that this is perhaps a soft launch of re-branding and have to imagine that it will likely coincide for when we get to be contenders again in 2018 or so. The current log, while not awful, has been in place as long as the old ball and glove logo at this point.
  2. I had seen earlier this off-season that Cesar Jimenez had signed to play in Italy but apparently we signed him to a minor league deal with an invite to spring training earlier today.
  3. Just a quick post to see if anybody on these boards has ever attended any "SABR Day" events in the past. I am not currently a member but would like to be. I noticed on their website that the annual SABR Day is coming up this Saturday in Kenosha at the Brat Stop and am just wondering if anyone on these boards has gone or is planning on going this year. Are they worthwhile events? Kind of excited to make it a baseball weekend here in cold January with SABR Day and On Deck.
  4. I am fortunate enough to have this jersey (though it is a Gary Sheffield jersey). My brother bought it for me as a Christmas gift a few years back. I am not sure exactly where he got it but my guess is Ebay as he is frequently buying Brewers stuff on there. I have to say that I get more compliments on that jersey (until people see the name on the back) than any other piece of Brewers gear that I own.
  5. After posting those kinds of numbers, one would assume he wouldn't still be around but leave it to Brewers to consider resurrecting him. Who's next, Suppan? I am literally in favor of signing absolutely anyone on a minor league deal. No risk move for the club and the chance (albeit small) of catching lightning in a bottle with minimal risk and possible benefit of mentoring.
  6. I wonder how his Japanese lessons that he started taking back in 2005 turned out. Didn't he start taking Japanese in order to talk more with Tomo Ohka or something along those lines?
  7. Per JSonline today Matt Garza and Jonathan Villar have been added as attendees.
  8. Great (and sad) hypothetical. I would probably just adopt a local little league or high school team to satisfy my baseball rooting interest. As it stands, the Brewers are by far and away my favorite team but I tend to root consistently for one team in each division.
  9. I am going this year and am pretty pumped up about it. I always love going no matter if the team is good or not. Just a bit of a glimmer of hope that the season is on the way. Also, for those of us that are truly baseball junkies, it's also the same weekend as SABR day so you can pretty much make an entire weekend out of baseball related events in the middle of January. Pretty cool.
  10. Probably sounds a bit sentimental but I am just looking forward to good weather, green grass, sunshine, and baseball being played again. Oh yeah, here's to also tracking time until the development and rebuilding process is over and we are competitive again.
  11. Does anyone have the questions being asked in the interview? Honestly, I think Hardricourt's article is crappy journalism. Maybe if I could see or hear the questions I'd think differently but there is no where that I can see where Lucroy demanded a trade or said " a trade would be best.." Typically, the player doesn't call the journalist and ask to be questioned. The guy gave his time to answer some questions and told the truth. It's an article to create a reaction, which it did. I agree with you that, generally speaking, TH is a pretty blah journalist. He also would be seriously lacking in doing his job if he didn't try and question Lucroy about the potential of being moved. Major League players are literally trained in how to deal with the media when going through the minor leagues and by the time they have played in the big leagues for as long as Lucroy has they have years of experience in dealing with reporters. I would say that there is a good chance that Lucroy knew exactly how his comments could be interpreted prior to opening his mouth to Haudricourt.
  12. Count me as being a bit sick and tired of Lucroy talking about this with the media. I get that he was being honest but he could also just as easily have said 'no comment' and left it at that. There is absolutely no reason, even if we are going to be terrible, to discourage fans from coming out to see the product on the field, and I think that when your all-star catcher makes comments like this it is exactly what it does. There have been posters on this site who have bemoaned the lack of clubhouse leadership the past few years, probably since the departure of Prince, and I have been one of those guys. This speaks volumes to me that Lucroy is not a team leader in the sense that a leader figures out a way to lead instead of complains about the hand he's dealt.
  13. As is Matt Garza.
  14. This probably isn't the best thread to post this, but I have to guess that the Brewers will be coming up with a new logo at some point in the next season or two, probably in time to roughly coincide with the "reemergence" of the on-field product. We have now had our current logo since the 2000 season so this year will mark its 16th campaign. The ball and glove also had a 16 year run before the "industrial stamp" logo of the 90's and I don't think that our current logo is classic enough to merit keeping it for all-time. I love the ball and glove logo but I also don't want the team to necessarily adopt that as its full-time logo again as it may be best to come up with something new for this generation of guys. Any thoughts?
  15. Much of what I would argue has already been said but I will still chime in and say that this seems like a real overreaction on the part of WIAA. As others have pointed out, there is something to be said for facing some adversity and criticism in life, particularly when young. I know everyone reacts differently, but when I played high school sports I just assumed that some razzing was part of the experience. Perhaps the WIAA would like fans to stop cheering altogether and silently observe high school athletes so as not to hurt anyone's feelings by expressing a preference for one team over another? Good grief.
  16. With the value of quality starting pitching being higher than ever in MLB today, I am not trading away young cost controllable and successful talent for anything less than several legit prospects and not one fringe player not playing in a position of organizational need.
  17. Probably a topic which deserves its own thread, but do you guys think that we are done making moves this off-season? Part of me thinks that we unfortunately are. I hope that I am very, very wrong.
  18. Who were the three idiots that didn't vote for Ken Griffey Jr. to be a first ballot Hall of Famer?
  19. I just heard a very interesting case being made for Jeff Kent on the MLB Network. Not sure I am fully on board yet but interesting nonetheless.
  20. Not important in terms of playoff aspirations but one of my favorite games of this era of Brewers was the day against Minnesota in (I think) 2005 when Prince and Rickie both hit their first major league home runs on the same day. Watching that game it felt like a new era of Brewers baseball was on its way.
  21. Kind of funny how earlier this off-season some pundits were predicting that because of Counsell and the Brewer's front office loving him and his role last year that he would likely be the starting third baseman in 2016. Guess that reports of a Herrera era at 3b were a bit overstated.
  22. While that may be true, why are there never reports about it? Does the NFL even test for HGH and if so, when did they start doing so? It seems like for quite some time the public has been much more prone to hold MLB to a higher standard than the beloved cash cow/physical freak show that is today's NFL.
  23. Maybe I read something incorrectly, but I thought I saw that we re-signed Hiram Burgos and extended him an invitation to big league camp.
  24. Maybe they would want us to take on Loney's contract as part of a deal?
  25. Total speculation of course, but I would have to guess that Stearns has made an informal offer to Alvarez or Carter. It would also make sense that they are waiting to see if they can get a better offer somewhere and will let the market play out a bit since I doubt we offered more than a one year deal to either guy.
