    It really is nuts Danzig. I am in awe as to how some guys can just flip a switch and become superhuman once the playoffs begin. As I mentioned earlier in the thread, I love seeing the dejected look on those people's faces at Wrigley Field.

    I have to say that I really enjoy watching the despondent look on all of the Cubs fans' faces during the ninth inning of the game tonight. I know we didn't make the playoffs and that they did. That was still really, really fun for me in some perverse way.

    With Cecil injured the Jays only have one LHP in the bullpen. They have to be judicious as to when to use Loup. They kept Price in to face the Royals' LH hitters Hosmer, Moustakas, and Gordon. Why hasn't Buehrle been added as a lefty out of the bullpen? He doesn't have "reliever stuff" but he throws strikes. The whole Buehrle situation seems strange to me. He's injured to the point that he's not on the postseason roster but they let him start the final day of the season to reach some contract benchmark but in so doing lose home field advantage?

    I know it's always tough to trade starting pitching but imho, Marco Estrada was not going to be the difference maker for the 2015 Brewers experiencing success. Trading him coupled with having a lousy season has opened up some rotation slots for young guys that might actually have a future here and it's not like Lind played badly for us. Let's see what we get back in return for Lind before making a call on who won this deal.

    I agree that is why they are going to cable route but I think it is short sighted. It is hard to grow the sport when fewer people can watch the post season. There are a lot of sports fans who really don't follow baseball as much as they do other sports. How else do you get a sports fan who isn't all that into baseball if they can never see the best the sport has to offer? I agree with this. I think it is ridiculous that the first "free" game will be game 1 of the ALCS. And only game 1. The next game will be game 1 of the world series. I agree with fluff, baseball is missing out on the casual fan. I am 33 and many of my friends do not have cable anymore. Cable is really starting to go to the way side. With all the other offerings, Netflix, hulu, etc, many people are starting to opt out of cable. Just wait until Netflix purchases the rights to a game or you tube. That time is coming. We are the same age Bombers and you make a great point about cable. I know a number of people within the same age demographic who go and watch games at bars if there is one that they really care about and who otherwise are missing great baseball.

    I hate the Cardinals more than the Cubs. Perfect scenario for me (since the Brewers aren't in of course) is the Cubs knocking out the Cardinals today and then losing in some painful debilitating way in either the NLCS or World Series. That would be awesome.

    Pretty sure that I was the only Brewer fan at Miller Park this evening. Good grief. Oh yeah, Arrieta is pretty decent. Very impressive and it might portend a fairly deep postseason run (unfortunately) for this Cubs team.

    Great thread. I also score (nearly) every game that I go to. I can also definitely be pegged as someone who gets a bit tired of all the non-baseball stuff that goes on at the stadium and wish that the team would get back to understanding that fundamentally they need to cater to people who are there to watch a baseball game. Letting those of us who care know about scoring decisions would be awesome. I do however know that I am probably in the minority and that most people go to games with the understanding that they will be entertained by more than just the game itself. I don't get it but it is what it is I suppose. Earlier this season I was sitting by myself (I promise that I do have friends, just that sometimes going to a game solo is my way of complete relaxation) and a woman sitting nearby seemed very confused as to what I was doing with a scorebook in my hand. She drunkenly kept asking me if I worked for the team or was a "secret agent" of another team lol.

    I love it. I think it's great when the team can inject a bit of life into a last place team during the last few weeks. Makes watching the games that much more interesting despite the team being out of it.

    Read up on him. He's been involved in pretty much everything. Contract negotiations, arbitration, scouting, analytics, player development. Why would you want a former player to be a GM? Dave Stewart is a former player and he doesn't look like a good GM at all. I'm not dead set on having a former player, but it would be nice having someone who paid their dues at some level. I don't think that Harry Dalton played a lick either, and he was a great GM, but he had a tremendous background and track record in player development. Stearns seemed to start out right at the top in 'manager' roles. I just worry that he is not going to have the experience and Rolodex necessary to put together a winning organizational front office. I sure hope that this is not a situation where Attanasio is going to be able to push him around on personnel decisions to the point where he becomes a defecto GM himself. I'm not sure that I like the GM/manager combo we have right now for a rebuilding team, and Attanasio's finger prints are all over it. I don't agree with all of the points that you raise in your post but I do worry a bit about the larger MA imprint as well. Even if it's true, you should never say publicly that Craig Counsell has to be the manager under a new GM. (Not that I am advocating firing Counsell, just that no one should be publicly hamstrung) Let's hope that Stern is his own man and can make the decisions necessary to move this team forward.

    Has anyone read anything about how involved he was in the development of the Houston system? I am assuming that the Brewers did their due diligence, just curious.

    I am a little disturbed that there is now officially a GM in baseball that is younger than me.... lol. Hopefully this works out and he is the smart-agressive type of GM that I think we need.

    I am guessing that we see a few of our outfielders from AAA called up for the last few weeks here. Nothing to lose at this point.

    I like the Cubs much more than the Cardinals. I will always always root against the Cardinals against any team that is facing them.

    I think that the signs were positive but we really should wait for the diagnostics to come back from the hospital before we get too excited.

    Seems blatantly unfair that guys who were only suspected of using PED's are lumped into the same category as guys who have admitted to it or were directly implicated in the Mitchell Report.
