  1. Once again, thanks for doing this Maas. It is definitely a valuable thread during the off-season.
  2. This Series has been really fun to watch so far. Hard-played baseball with a lot of passion from both teams and cities. Wish that the national ratings were up, but overall it's been a blast so far.
  3. Does Maddon have any previous relationship with new Braves team exec John Hart?
  4. I will also be watching every game. Like many of you here on this board I am very clearly addicted to baseball and this is the last fix of real live Major League Baseball until next spring which seems like an eternity away right now. Football is a very distant second and I pay literally no attention to it whatsoever until the World Series is done.
  5. Highly jealous of you guys who have gone or are going this next spring. One of these years this is coming off the bucket list.
  6. I think this is right. The club thinks it can win in 2015. The only way they deal Gomez is if they falter badly and look like it's time to rebuild. I still think the plan will be bring back Yo, bring back A-Ram, add a 1B (LaRoche), hope Segura and Braun rebound, and hope we avoid the injury bug. It's not necessarily what I would do, but I think it's what DM will do. This summarizes what I think WILL happen completely, not necessarily what should happen. The RR/DM combo will be given one more year to win with this group of guys and then the rebuild begins after DM retires following next season. If/when the Brewers fall out of contention next season earlier in the year we could start to see a rebuild a bit earlier, but I'd be surprised if this happens without DM's replacement already being part of the decision making process within the organization. (Craig Counsell?)
  7. It was probably this one: How a Disgruntled Ace Gave the Royals a Full House It was. Thanks Casey.
  8. I don't have time to find the link right now, but the New York Times had an interesting article and some quotes from DM regarding the trade yesterday as well.
  9. All I have heard is that DM was going out to LA sometime this week. Does anyone know what day exactly this conversation between DM and RR is happening?
  10. I really hope that our "splash" is not just signing Adam LaRoche.
  11. Well congrats to the Baltimore Orioles and former Brewers Nelson Cruz and JJ Hardy (along with former Brewers front office exec Dan Duquette). Now I am hoping for a Royals win tonight to make for a very exciting ALCS between two very hot teams.
  12. The mayor of St. Louis replies to the article - and makes you want to hate the Cardinals (and St. Louis) even more: http://online.wsj.com/articles/st-louis-to-america-dont-be-jealous-1412273454 I came here to post this too. I started to read it and then quickly skimmed the rest of it. The generalization of Midwesterners being quiet and humble does not apply to St. Louis. I think of St. Louis and its residents as Southerners.
  13. Kind of a run of the mill reliever. Thanks for the two seasons Alfredo.
  14. If they stick with the Hall of Fame thing, Hoffman should have his number retired too in a few years. And Don Sutton
  15. I know that there are some on this board rooting for PIT but I am most definitely not one of them. I love the fact that they are getting pounded right now, and even though I have no love for the Giants, it excites me to see the look of despair on Russell Martin's face.
  16. Great point Folly. I found myself thinking the exact same thing while watching the game last night, images of our lineup with two hits through the next seven or eight innings.
  17. Whoever ends up with this one should be pleased. Both teams are refusing to die.
  18. I am sitting here watching the game and honestly wondered if I truly misheard something. Nope.
  19. I am looking forward to some great playoff games this year.
  20. Uh, haven't you seen enough of a fundamental-less team? In case you missed the past two months, it's why were sitting at home this postseason. I'd love Gardy in Milwaukee. Like Ken Macha?
  21. I went to the game Saturday night and just felt sad. Sad that this team failed in our attempt at the post-season, nostalgically sad to see guys leaving that represent certain eras of my life (Weeks and Overbay), and perhaps even moreso because it marks the beginning of a cold baseball-less off season. I love the Packers and all, but the Brewers and baseball generally are my only true sports passion. In the meantime I will watch the post-season and root for the Royals and Nats and against the Cardinals, settle into fall, and start getting pumped again when the Brewers team store has their annual sale in early December and the march to Opening Day goes on. In case anyone hasn't seen it, former commissioner Bart Giamatti's "The Green Fields of the Mind", my annual read after the season's final game: http://mason.gmu.edu/~rmatz/giamatti.html
