  1. They will have to making an announcement very soon I would imagine as the game starts in just under three hours.
  2. You would hope/think it's a Betancourt DFA. Not disagreeing, but I would be shocked if that happens.
  3. If he is indeed put on the 15 day DL (which I am assuming is pretty much best case scenario here) I would assume we'd have to expect a roster move today with our thin bench?
  4. My wife and I bought a WiiU for our son at Christmas this past December. I am really kind of shocked that there are not any baseball games for that system yet.
  5. I wish that the Brewers as an organization would look into buying stuff like this and putting it on display for the fans.
  6. Thanks Bikeage. Topps was our original goal as well until we saw the number of guys that are only in a Brewers uniform on a police set or something else, and not on a Topps card with us at all. Even relatively bigger name guys who were only here a short time are difficult (thinking Jim Abbott and Jason Bere specifically for some reason.) Also, not to be morbid but by my count there are unfortunately 29 guys who've played here but that have passed on.
  7. Great posts on here. I collect as well, much more so in the past than now just because of a lack of time. I still make sure to get the Topps set every year and have some decent stuff. My current favorite though is worth about $1 and is a book that my son and I have as a project. We are trying to get a card of every single guy that has ever played for the Brewers. The trick of it is that they have to be in a Brewers uniform. There are some guys that pretty much make completing it impossible, (Yorvit Torrealba for one) but it is a cool and cheap thing that my son and I can do together. I'd say that we have about 100 guys or so to go.
  8. One of my favorite days of the year.... Happy Opening Day everyone. Go Brewers.
  9. I have just watched to build up the excitement level in anticipation of Opening Day. This thread is appreciated, I am very glad that this was brought up. Cannot wait for Monday.
  10. I've seen this from other posters too. Why? More uniforms mean more merchandise to sell and more money for the team. The Brewers "standard" uni's are dull, lifeless, corporate, and totally blah. I like the variations and I'm really digging the You-niforms. I still think that the team will unveil new uniforms and a new logo for next season. We've had our current ones for awhile now.
  11. Actually, it was a major league contract according to a press release from his agency.
  12. And the just started positive thread will blow up in 5, 4, 3, 2, .....
  13. The only evidence someone took something is a drug test. MLB pursuing "other evidence" is an admission that their testing is inadequate. Since this firm also apparently sold approved products, proving that someone engaged in commerce with it, doesn't prove anything either and it's unlikely that they'd keep detailed records of the illegal stuff. Names written on a piece of paper evidence? Really?? Some minor leaguer who knows Braun throwing him under the bus to save his career? Dubious at best. There is not even evidence that the minor leaguer who knows Braun even threw him under the bus. Since MLB arbitrarily suspended him for an additional 50 games for being uncooperative, perhaps he was in fact suspended for not making up or confirming a story about his "best friend" Ryan Braun even using at all.
  14. I get what you are saying here and agree for the most part. I also get the Mets thinking here.... they, like many people, were duped by Bernie Madoff. Some investments pan out and others don't, it doesn't mean that investing money over the long-term is a bad idea. The amounts are not that outrageous annually in the sense that they can sink a franchise. Seems like a calculated risk that just didn't work out but with minor overall consequences considering the payroll (and revenue) of MLB teams these days.
  15. Dominican pitchers probably had to celebrate every called strike. Yes, that was VERY annoying to say the least.
  16. Loving the WBC and watching all these guys I have never heard of before (Japan especially) but this is the only thing I disagree with as well. I don't know why they do it exactly (competitive balance perhaps) but it really sits wrong with me that a player who is born and raised in the U.S. would want to play for the Dominican, as A-Rod wanted to do in 2009 IIRC. I think changing it to having been a native or a dual citizen of both countries may be a remedy. I am German and would root for Germany if the U.S. didn't win, but would never choose to play for Germany over the U.S. under any circumstances. When the circumstances were "you wouldn't make the US roster," you wouldn't have a change of heart? Nope, but that is just my point of view. I just couldn't see myself going against the United States (sports, politics, whatever). I may disagree with methods or means, but never against. Would seem off to me. That is just me though. I agree with you completely WTP. Under the current rules I am eligible to play for Team Italy but could never imagine going against the US in a competition. Even the dual citizen thing gets a bit convoluted as guys who are three generation Americans are still eligible for Italian citizenship even having never even been to the country (as an example.) You are correct about ARod by the way, he played for the US in the first WBC and was going to play for the DR in the second until an injury.
  17. Yeah, I know they are and I don't blame MLB for trying to put the best talent on each team. I guess that I have a problem with the IOC rules generally when it comes to eligibility.
  18. And that's why I hope the Brewers don't get in the habit of paying one player 20-30% or so of payroll. I hope Zack's alright, but had the Brewers signed him to a $100MM+ deal and he ended up on and off the DL and pitching well under 100%, we'd be screwed. If this injury is bad enough the Dodgers will be glad that they haven't traded any of their extra starting pitchers yet. It seems like mlbtraderumors has had stories regarding one of Harang, Lilly, and Capuano for at least the last month.
  19. I have loved the WBC so far. As I have posted in several other forums, I disagree with the current rules regarding eligibility in the sense that I don't think that guys should be able to play for a country that they are not even a citizen of Other than that, the tournament itself has been great and I have really enjoyed watching the games. Hoping for a good showing from Team USA in Round 2.
  20. That was a great game to watch. Team USA with a nice win and the Brewers get Axford, Henderson, Green, Gallardo, and Estrada back in camp.
  21. Yeah.... a nice win for Team USA tonight. I'm looking forward to the game against Canada tomorrow. So far imo the WBC has been quite entertaining. (Though I still find it ridiculous to see guys from the US playing against Team USA for Mexico or Italy).
  22. That was awesome. It looked like Braun's massive shot to left was foul by about a foot.
  23. Yeah, that was a rough one for Team USA. I am hoping that we have a much better showing tomorrow against Italy.
