  1. I was at the last game that Yo pitched against the Diamondbacks at home. He looked great. It's no lock by any means, but of the available starters, I think having Yo start an elimination game at home ensures the best chance of there being future elimination games in 2011. I agree. The other 3 starters haven't been very good in this series.
  2. Apparently it is possible. Because that's exactly where I'm at too. Get over it. These guys are not your best buds. You don't have a relationship with them. You like the brand, Milwaukee Brewers, and you may have favorite players that were or are part of that brand. But if you like the Brewers cheer for the performance on the field, don't expect anything from the players beyond that, appreciate they are trying to win games for the team you love, and respect they may have other issues and dilemmas in their lives. Just like anybody else. Including you.
  3. So the Brewers play at the same time as Packers?
  4. I will not be surprised at all if Betancourt's option is picked up for 2012.
  5. In fairness his only alternatives to these two were Counsell and Wilson for most of the year. Hairston arrived to play CF for Gomez, then ended up taking over for Lopez at 2B while Rickie was on the DL. So he really wasn't available that much until Rickie came off the DL. Green has been playing on a semi regular basis, starting in 7 of Septembers 22 games, and seeing action in 10 others. Of course Green could have been called up much earlier in the season. Or Gamel. But they weren't, for whatever reason. Counsell or Wilson could have played more ss, but their play didn't exactly demand to be in the lineup ahead of Yuni.
  6. I know. What I meant is that cable and satellite companies carry only the digital transmission of local channels. They do not carry these channels in standard definition as they do with so-called cable networks if you don't have an HD package.
  7. I have DirecTV but not in HD. However, the local channels are always in HD--I think that's required by law for all satellite/cable transmission. So, I'd rather the Brewers were on FOX that TBS because the FOX affiliate will be in HD. TBS for me is in SD. Not a big deal really, just wish it were the other way around.
  8. That would never happen in La Crosse.
  9. It's amazing how dysfunctional this offense is, and how the manager consistently avoids putting the best hitters and defenders in the lineup every game. This team won't go far in the playoffs because the offense after Braun and Fielder isn't all that good. There are only 27 outs in the game and Brewers give 12-15 easy outs away every night.
  10. His numbers with Florida aren't far off his career numbers: low batting average, high obp compared to batting average, solid power for a good defensive CF'er. If he can still play defense he could fill out a contender's roster very nicely in 2012.
  11. Every organized league in baseball uses the DH. I am sick of traditionalists. Lets have the DH and win a Championship.
  12. Mike Flanagan blew his head off two weeks ago, in part because of the blame he took for the Orioles. BE careful what you blame individuals for....
  13. Money sounds like an [expletive deleted] to me. Gamel has done everything asked of him. let's move on. Fire Money and get somebody on board with the rest of the organization. (edit: language --1992)
  14. I like the DH too. The NL basically uses it for the last 1/3 of every 9 inning game anyway.
  15. As opposed to carrying JOsh Wilson and Craig Counsell on the roster all year? Imagine having to carry an extra bat on the roster instead of a handful of crappy worthless utility infielders. All those superior intelligent NL managers won't know how to manage now that the brilliant strategy of the double switch is no longer needed.
  16. My expectation for the Phillies series is only that no one in Wisconsin except for me will be watching the game tonight.
  17. Which is probably the best decision. Green is a better defender, can play 2B and 3B. Gamel's only value in the post season would be as a PH. Green can PH and also be used in double switch situations. Not saying RR will ever do such a thing, but the option is there.
  18. Interesting stuff. Thanks. We haven't been giving Corey Hart the love he deserves this year. Rickie is probably my favorite player on the team, but Hart is rather quietly having a better season with the bat. 23 homers in 402 at bats. .356 oba. .872 OPS. The highest walk rate of his career. He's doing everything he did last year. Now if only he'd stop trying to steal bases.....
  19. The Brewers offense after Braun and Fielder isn't particularly good. The great starting pitching and those two sluggers have masked this fact since the All Star break. If the Brewers do make it to the postseason, they probably don't have the bats to battle the superior pitching they will face from the opposing team(s). So thinking you can get by with Yuni and McGehee anchoring the bottom half of the order is a serious tactical error. It may work when you are playing a half a season against mostly sub .500 teams, but RR should be looking for offense options now before the playoffs begin.
  20. So the hope is someone will trade for Tejada and the Giants will avoid paying the September salary? That seems like a small savings to me. I can understand Rowand, but Tejada is only signed through the end of the season, right?
  21. Yes, that's what I meant, but my sentence structure was poor in my previous post.
  22. The corrollary is if your name is Derek Jeter the bat becomes part of the hand when not bunting, and a good acting job will get you a base. Didn't Manny Parra break a finger trying to bunt his season with the team?
  23. Casey's slash stats since the All Star break: .277/.327/.445. That's a near perfect match for his career numbers. So you can make the argument he had a bad half season but is back to being the same hitter he was the previous two seasons. He'll get a nice raise in arbitration. Also, getting back up to his career numbers should make him a tradeable player over the winter.
  24. BeatAgain was actually a phrase coined by folks on an Orioles board I visit. The frustration level was so high-still is- that Flanagan's quotes were referred to as Flansturbations. It's too bad because the guy was one of the most beloved Orioles ever. He was very funny as a commentator on broadcasts. Of course his tenure as part of the advised tag team GM concept was hardly his fault. Beattie was a bean counter that was supposed to work Flanny into his role as GM. In the end, they hands were always tied by Angelos. They made a big splash signing Tejada and extending Mora-rising to 78 wins in 2004 and looking like things were on the upswing. The next year Palmeiro tested positive for PEDs, Tejada was linked to steroids, the young players who looked promising regressed. Two years later it was all a mess again. Flanagan was a funny guy, quick witted and made for lively broadcasts. Former Cy Young lefty, who had a solid career as a starter, then reinvented himself late in career as a quaility LOOGY for a year. A good team player, represented the organization is a positive light, not always easy with the Orioles. RIP. I hope the demons that haunted him give him peace.
  25. I go with Gamel at 1B, Green at 3rd. McGehee backs up both. I wouldn't be against Berkman, he's always been one of my favorites, but I wouldn't want him taking AB's away from Gamel. You know if someone of his stature is signed he will be the everyday 1B.
