  1. The separate Yovani Gallardo prediction thread made me think of this. We can all agree, pretty closely, that Gallardo is going to have a good to great season. At least that is everyone's expectation of him. Sure, there's a lot of pressure on Yo to step up and be "the guy" now, but he's been in a position close to that before, and has produced. Even more important to our hopes in 2009 (and beyond) the way the current roster is setup is the success or failure of Manny Parra to attain his vast potential at age 26. What say you, Brewerfan.net? Project Manny Parra's 2009 campaign. W-L, ERA, IP, BB, K, WHIP
  2. 34 SP, 221 IP, 55 BB, 201 K, 3.12 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, 18-9. 3rd in Cy Young Voting. Now what would REALLY be interesting is a Manny Parra prediction thread.
  3. He's the best pitcher of our generation, edging out Roger Clemens based on his control and consistency. How does he compare to players such as Spahn, Young, Alexander, etc? I'd be willing to wager that in a batter equivilant study, Maddux ranks right up there.
  4. Nolan Ryan would be in your top 5 but not Maddux? It's incredible how we overrate "stuff" and strikeouts sometimes. Maddux has more wins, less losses (in 63 less career games, mind you). Almost 2000 less walks than Ryan. Chew on that number for a minute, please. Ryan does have 2400 more K's, but again, the value of a strikeout over a regular out isn't as great as we think. WHIP: Maddux (1.143), Ryan (1.247). The only possible way you could even make a case for Ryan is based on strikeouts and his no-hitters. Overall, Maddux was the better pitcher, and it's not even close.
  5. You are thinking of Randy Ready, maybe?
  6. From JSOnline: "Melvin mentioned hard-throwing right-hander Seth McClung as an internal option to try as closer. He said he didn't plan to bid on high-priced free agent closers such as Francisco Rodriguez and Brian Fuentes." Oh, that's good news. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  7. What's wrong with McClung as closer, Torres and Villy as set-up?
  8. http://www.jsonline.com/sports/brewers/33342319.html Bye bye, Blengino. Ugh.

  10. If you have 2 for tonight you need to get rid of, email me: mrectenwald@gmail.com
  11. I'm up for getting together and meeting some folks for the game Wednesday. Suggestions for a place? I'm thinking Rounding Third on Bluemound Rd, but I'm open for discussions on that.
  12. They were actually really nice, it was odd. A majority of them stuck around for the conclusion of the Mets/Marlins game, and stood and applauded when it was all said and done. I was shocked.
  13. Well, getting Guzman and relievers instead of Zambrano is certainly a blessing. I'm on my way to the game now. Let's Go Brewers!!!!
  14. Am I the only one who feels that if Dave Bush would have started that game yesterday our magic number would be 1 right now? Ben, you had all the talent in the world, but you lack the dedication to health and conditioning that you needed. Good luck in Houston (or Atlanta).
  15. You know, that's not the worst idea in the world. And given Sveum's inclination to think outside of the box a bit, don't think he hasn't thought of that.
  16. Sunday, September 28, 2008.
  17. Shoot, I suggested this in January.
  18. Regular: Al's Ramblings Buster Olney Semi-Regular: Brew Crew Ball Aaron Gleeman Peter Gammons John Sickels Rob Neyer Occasional: FireNedYost
  19. Ok, I jumped the gun out of anger. I'm still very much involved with the Brewers.
