  1. Sioux City Sarsparilla.
  2. I named Salome as a possible in the 25 man roster thread. I'll state it again here. Just a feeling.
  3. It's early yet, but here's my gut feeling: SP: Gallardo, Wolf, Davis, Parra, Bush MRP: Suppan, Vargas LHP: Stetter, Narveson SU: Hawkins, Coffey CL: Hoffman C: Gregg Zaun 1B: Prince Fielder 2B: Rickie Weeks 3B: Casey McGehee SS: Alcides Escobar LF: Ryan Braun CF: Carlos Gomez RF: Corey Hart Bench: Craig Counsell, Joe Inglett, Jody Gerut, Jim Edmonds, George Kottaras First to miss roster: Villanueva, Gamel, Lucroy, Salome, Schoenweiss Replacements: Loe, Lofgren, Treanor, Heether, Iribarren, Oeljien I think Bush will win the #5 spot if he's healthy. If not, Narveson will have the inside track. A lot to be decided there in Spring. Keep an eye on Loe. He might be a guy that will make an impact this season. If Lofgren pitches his behind off and impresses in camp I would not be surprised to see them bite the bullet and release Suppan. Villanueva is going to be the odd man out because he has options, if everyone stays healthy (a huge if). I think Gamel will go to Nashville and spend some time in the outfield along with 3B. He could be a Hart replacement down the line, or replace McGehee if (when?) he comes back to earth. Lucroy and Salome will split time in Nashville for at least the first month. I think you will see Lucroy at some point by midseason. Salome has a lot to prove this Spring to see if he's going to be a spec or not. I think Schoenweiss has too much stacked against him between guys with salaries, guys with options, etc. Treanor is a non-factor. I think that Melvin is enamored with Kottaras a little bit and I don't blame him. As a backup he's a good one. Heether is going to get beat out by Inglett, just a gut feeling. I think Edmonds still has plenty in the tank and will beat out Iribarren and Oeljein for the last bench spot handily, and could end up seeing some ample playing time against the toughest righties in center field all season. This, of course, doesn't take into consideration any trades that might happen during the Spring and I think there will be one or two towards the end of Spring for sure. I would not be surprised to see the Brewers send someone (Salome comes immediately to mind) to the Indians to keep Lofgren. I think the Brewers have soured on Salome and it's going to take a lot for him to change their minds this spring.
  4. Saw these morsels on Buster Olney's blog (best in the biz, btw) this morning and immediately thought of the Brewers:
  5. Granderson is one of my favorite players in the game. If he became the Brewer, well...I'd be downright giddy.
  6. I like the idea of Money. But really we need someone who isn't afraid to try new things when their "way" isn't working. We need someone who is somewhat flexible unlike the "crusty" Macha. Bobby V might be that guy.
  7. 5-6, 5.61, 1.57 WHIP or 11-12, 4.60, 1.32 WHIP Which one do you choose?
  8. I suggested this yesterday on WSSP when they were trying to make a case for Pedro or Glavine (who already said he's not pitching this year) and I was laughed off. Byrd had better numbers (by far) than either of them last year.
  9. For me, it's worth it just for Buster Olney's blog. I don't miss the money and I get more than .05 cents a day value out of Olney's blog.
  10. I'll go with 17-11.
  11. Entrance: Getting his first Brewers save:
  12. I'd love a chance at these, too.
  13. That's a real possibility if the rumors about Podsednik are true. However, it sounds like they like Duffy, and they'll probably go with him. Wouldn't surprised to see Cain with us later in the season.
  14. Looks like Gwynn hasn't made the club and is on waivers now... http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/42338667.html Gwynn news tomorrow By Tom Haudricourt of the Journal Sentinel Apr. 2, 2009 2:01 p.m. Phoenix - We just talked to Doug Melvin and he said there would be an announcement on outfielder Tony Gwynn's status tomorrowl So, as I surmised in an earlier blog, it appears Gwynn has been placed on waivers and probably will clear tomorrow if not claimed by another club. The other alternative would be a trade to another club, but you wouldn't think Melvin would say there would be news tomorrow if it were a trade. Gwynn is out of minor-league options and would have to clear waivers to go to Class AAA Nashville. If he clears, he would have to accept the outright assignment. So, Brad Nelson and Chris Duffy have claimed the two reserve outfield spots. And they've done so by performing well throughout spring training, though Melvin said you can be fooled at times by stats in camp. "You can't just evaluate on spring training stats," said Melvin. "Spring training stats can be overrated. "We know what Tony can do. It's probably harder for (new manager) Ken (Macha) and his staff because they haven't seen him before. "Tony's a good player. But he kind of fits what Duffy does."
  15. Gwynn will easily clear waivers to AAA. The Brewers know what everyone else in the majors do, he'd be lucky to have the career of Chris Gwynn at this point.
  16. He's a fan favorite, so there's that, I guess. Is he a better option than Duffy at this point? Maybe. Duffy's MLC, too, so he could go to the minors. Gwynn's chances of being waived to AAA improved when Jerry Owens made it through yesterday. Pods is a horrible CF, though, so who would be our backup there? Hart?
  17. You guys forget that since the injury, McPherson has gone from questionable to below average at the hot corner. We had this guy already, his name is Russell Branyan. ThE Astros should be all over him. JEFF KEPPINGER? Really???
  18. You're thinking of Jared Fernandez.
  19. He did have a bunch of RBI one September.
  20. C- Bobby Hughes SS- Steve Kiefer 3B- Randy Ready I could go all day with this one.
  21. Lowry = Chris Capuano
  22. They simply need to come up with a true revenue split. Murph on The Score today brought up this topic- so if the Royals are scheduled to play the Yankees at Yankee Stadium, the Yankees make like $10M that day. What if the Royals refuse to show up? Shouldn't they get 50% of the gate, TV revenue, etc, etc? If the Royals don't show up, there's no game and thus no revenue for the Yankees. All of the problems with baseball's finances come from the owners, and not from the players.
  23. Well, did you like it?? You got the free license when they asked the beta testers for sites to give it to, I said "Brewerfan.net". http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  24. It could be argued that he is. It's Yovanni, then Parra, Bush, Suppan, McClung as we're currently constructed. Bush has more wins than any of the other three over the last couple seasons, so it is possible that he is our #2 starter.
