For comparisons of familiarity, Miguel Diaz, Carlos Luna, and Gian Rizzo. All three posted similar numbers at similar ages at DSL and rookie leagues respectively. All three are probably within our system's #40-75 range. For reference, I'd put our newcomers in this prospect order with the above mentioned players: 1) Carlos Herrera 2) Miguel Diaz 3) Daniel Missaki 4) Carlos Luna 5) Freddy Peralta 6) Gian Rizzo So, essentially i don't think its too far off base a comparison to ask, would you have traded on year of Adam Lind for Miguel Diaz, Carlos Luna and Gian Rizzo?

Don't know any of them, but I am happy to have them in the system. This is really buying a lottery ticket, but I'm okay with that. actually three lottery tickets. but a lottery ticket's worth is dependent on how big the jackpot is and how good the odds are of winning. From what I've read so far of the scouting reports, it looks like the jackpot (their ceiling) isn't exactly the powerball and the fact that they're so far away from the majors, are pretty long odds of getting that winning ticket, much less three. but, who knows, hopefully see them all in 2022 in blue and yellow.

I appreciate so much these offseason threads and Mass Haas who keep us in the loop. But, I have trouble remembering and following who's all playing Winter Ball and how they're doing overall. disapointed to see Schafer and hellweg go. for a couple years after that 2011 season, I thought that Schafer would put together a Brett Gardneresq career. and always felt that Hellweg had the potential to be the best part of the Greinke trade. man, when the season ended after the trade- really thought we had ripped LA off w/ how promising Segura, Hellweg & Pena looked. makes me wonder about the Hou deal- that as good as that trade seems now- anything can happen in a few years.

of course get Arcia & Magnifico makes sense too as do the likely risks of not including wang, roache, Ortega, suter. However, was a little disappointed to see Barnes on the list. although younger and "ascending", I don't see him as a better future pitcher than Burgos or Chapman. and for that matter would probably rather have Guez & Perez too over Barnes- all of whom I'd also think are more likely at being selected by other teams than Barnes.

While I agree with Boomer5's assessment, , and furthermore think that the Sardinas & Sneed deals are a net positive, although not by much, I still don't understand a lot of the "hate" for Sardinas. I think a big part of why his "potential" status dropped is that he hasn't produced much in the majors. but, he's only just 22! Villar was hitting about the same as Sardinas at his age in the majors, and being two years older, its realistic to project Sardinas putting up similar numbers as he did last year at 24. Plus, Sardinas is the much better defender. At 22, Yadiel Rivera was only hitting .250 in A+/AA. At 21 years old, Sardinas was hitting .290 in AAA. in any regard, these moves don't seem like a real upgrade for the present or future, but rather just moving pieces around. though as with all trades, time will tell- Sardinas/Sneed or Villar/Flores.

I also don't think this necessarily means there will be a corresponding trade this offseason to unload a middle infielder. it may very well be that they'll let it play out until the trade deadline to try and increase some trade value out of gennett/segura. there is room for them all and to use this year to see what we have in the younger guys. here is how it would probably play if we go into the season w/ our current roster: MAJ 2B- Gennett SS- Segura 3B- Herrera UI- Sardinas UI- Villar AAA 2B- Rivera SS- Arcia 3B- Perez UI- Orf UI- Macias/Shaw AA 2B- McFarland SS- Betancourt 2017 - MAJ 2B- Sardinas SS- Arcia 3B- (outside acquisition or if some combination of villar, rivera, or perez show that they are more than uitility infielders) UI - Villar UI- Perez/Rivera

Two questions: 1) where would you rank Javy B amongst the Brewers prospects? without looking closely at it yet, I peg him in that 25-35 range and above Yadiel Rivera & Tucker Neuhaus. 2) i wonder why we didn't pick up some or all of K-Rods salary for a better prospect? people here are stating that they are excited about the money we saved for K-Rod and mentioned that it frees up Stearn to use it elsewhere. but, we probably aren't going to be competing in the next couple years and won't be targeting FAs so won't really need it. however, what we could use are high impact prospects.

would you rather.... have Gilbert Lara for 3.4 million OR Franly Mallen, Nicolas Pierre, Jose Sibrian, & Jesus Lujano for 2.5 million

oh well- its fun for me to think about, but I'm still left wondering about the hypothetical question: the minor league (non-prospect) field vs major league teams- how would they do? one could say it would be a team of replacement level players- although technically true- I think they would perform better, because they are the cream of the crop of "replacement players". so, what's the over/under on the avg. amount of games they might win per season (if they played 162)?

this is probably the biggest argument against the Traveling AAAA team. Money. although it would be good for the players and teams, there isn't a real incentive for the league. whereas mexico city has obvious global incentives $$$.

a clarification- they wouldn't be "Free Agents"- instead they would be under contract with a home MLB team, and rented out to the AAAA team, but would be available to that team at any time if needed. RE: 1) good point, but I think infuriated would be a strong word. teams would be limited to 2 players max eligible for the MLB team. for local reference, it would have been guys like Ben Guez or Jaye Chapman. Not sure that they are singularly bringing in large contingency of fans. I think fans are mostly excited about seeing up and coming prospects, who would not be eligible for the AAAA Traveling Team. but, you are right that it would potentially exclude 1-2 of the more productive players on a team. 2) this was covered a bit above, but over the past few seasons, in addition to the two mentioned above, think about brewer minor leaguers like Brendan Katin, Matt Clark, Eugenio Velez, Mat Gamel, Brad Mills, Michael Blazek, Hiram Burgos, Preston Guilmet. these were/are players who excelled at AAA, but were blocked by guys who beat them out in spring training or who aren't on the 40 man roster, making their promotion logistically difficult and test them out against major league competition. some may shown that they truly were AAAA players (aka unable to produce at the MLB level), but perhaps others like I hope Guez and Chapman will prove someday that they are capable big league players. but, both are unlikely to get that shot, because they are blocked at their positions and are not up and coming young prospects with longer leashes. it would be valuable for a team to test guys like them out against MLB competition and see what they in fact have- and might after a couple months choose them over someone who is on the roster, or dish them off in a trade. I think about guys like Katin, who before all his knee issues, continued to dominate the PCL, but there were concerns over his "long swing" and felt that he would be exposed at the MLB level. maybe the administration was right or maybe he could have provided a year or two of solid production. we'll never know. of course his knee ended that possibility regardless. guys in this position must wait for a plague of injuries or get on a hot streak during their PH duties before a team will play them extensively. this is a good filter that has worked the majority of the time, but there are bound to be a handful of players whose careers never flourished, because they never really got the chance. evidence of this is through some "AAAA" players who finally did get that chance due to a variety of circumstances and found some MLB success: ex. Steve Pearce, Bryan LaHair, Grant Balfour, Brandon Moss, Justin Ruggiano, Dan Johnson. This hypothetical AAAA team would obviously benefit the players, but also benefits the teams, who are able to "discover" players they have and add their production to their team. win-win. 3) again- not sure how scheduling would work, but I'm guessing it would be mid-April-August, giving teams time to set their rosters and then time to add them if desire to the expanded rosters in September.

If we trade Gennett anytime soon and move Segura over to 2B (to let Sardinas play SS for a year until Arcia is ready), how good could Segura be at 2B? he has been mediocre at SS, but could a switch to 2B make him one of the top defensive 2B in the game? if so, would moving to a less premiere position actually increase his trade value or even influence it at all? either way- any way you configure it, we're set to improve quite a bit up the middle once gennett is gone.

What would it take to bring him in? I think he could compete for the 3B job- and wouldn't believe that he'd cost that much in a trade. maybe a Brooks Hall, Michael Strong or Daniel Fields? he's 29, but has always excelled at AAA, plays multiple positions and has never been given a legitimate shot at the majors.

also- none of these players make sense for the brewers, but for a low-budgeted team looking to compete next season, here is a list of Bargain Value players I think could be low risk/cost, solid reward contributors- many of whom are bounce back candidates: * Brian Matsuz * Rajai Davis * Jhoulys Chacin * Trevor Cahill * Alexei Ramirez * Rafael Soriano * Alexi Ogando * Ernesto Frieri * Joba Chamberlain * Andrew Bailey * Nori Aoki * Steve Pearce * Adam Loewen * Brandon Beachy * Blake Wood * Tim Lincecum

the only two guys I could see the Brewers bringing in are Justin Morneau and Austin Jackson. Assuming we trade Lind this offseason, Morneau would be a good replacement option (1-2 year sign) to bring in and platoon with Rogers. He would most likely provide similar offensive numbers as Adam Lind this past year, but better defensively. but, because of his concussion/injury issues, might be had for much cheaper. In addition, provided he performs well in the first half of the year, he would be a great trade piece to add some additional prospects. if rogers doesn't hit well next season we could keep morneau all year and trade him in the offseason. if morneau continues his injury woes- little risk, just play rogers and release him at some point during the season. all upside here. If Austin Jackson would accept a low contract, 1-2 year deal- I could see a similar situation as with Morneau. he could reassert his value, starting in CF or being a 4th OF- and could be traded if/when Phillips/Reed is ready. or just released if he's not performing. again- little risk for someone who could return a prospect or two.

the scheduling and standings would be obstacles, but as far as I see it, you don't add them, you insert them within the existing schedule- so each team would play 1 less Major League team/year and instead would play the AAAA Team. not sure how it'd work for standings other than maybe the AAAA team would not be included, but the wins/losses of other teams would be.
