Prejudice & Brewerfan.net
brewerjamie15 replied to Brian the Automator's topic in Brewer Fanatic Issues & Suggestions
I still gotta find out about that secret mountain thing. As always though, if there is something about the site or how a situation was handled and you'd rather not speak up on the boards, please feel free to contact me via private message. Confidentiality is not a problem at all. -
Barney. Not the dude from Andy Griffith, but the purple guy. My Sister-in-Law.- She bugs the snot out of me. The cave man guy on those commercials. - Enough already. You're about as effective as the Milwaukee Bullpen. Jim Belushi.- Just because.

This is getting ridculous

Threads are not just closed or locked for little to no reason. I know it may seem that way at times, but please believe that they are not. I understand that seeing a conversation that may interest members for various reasons get locked down is a bummer at times. Unfortunately, it happens. I locked down a thread once prematurely and was questioned about it. I realized I was wrong and that I should have let the thread play itself out. One thing that I have learned since then that many of you are not aware of is that threads get locked for several reasons. Perhaps the most obvious reason would be the double thread. I've double posted, I've been locked down. I've locked duplicate threads as well. It happens, and will always happen. Why have multiple threads on one subject which raise page views (and therefore costs) and make it much more difficult to converse about something? Easy and non-problematic. Lock dupe threads. I recently locked my own thread in the Major League Forum announcing Fan Fest of 2007 and redirecting traffic to this particular forum. Again, no problems in that thread being locked. The third type of thread to be locked is the tough one. Controversial threads cause headaches for people. Not only are the posters involved, but the entire community is involved. Brewerfan.net has a fine reputation and is often quoted in baseball articles around the league. We have drawn attention from team players, the organization as a whole, minor league affiliates, radio broadcasters, players family members, the list goes on impressively. All of us here are the reason for such accolades. One of the brightest spots of our site is the fact that you could feel comfortable with your kids reading the site. We use curse filters, don't tolerate belittling of fellow members, and so forth. In some instances and issue will be presented that can stir deep emotions with several members of the site or just folks walking around the internet reading about the team we all love. Race, religion, and politics can be the death of fine sites like this one. If things get out of hand, a reputation is established that is unwanted. I agree with all of you that in some views, specific threads should not be locked. This is human nature. We all see things differently. It can be the gray area that makes things difficult to moderate threads and it is in my opinion, done pretty well on this site. I don't moderate all that often. Our moderators do an outstanding job of it. In some cases when threads get all heated up, the moderators will ask for each others view points about the thread and what actions should be taken or not taken. It is only after debate or the general consensus that a thread be locked that action is taken. Often times, the threads author is spoken to via private message. Closing a thread is the last option we use when a thread is leading to what would be a fist fight in a bar or someplace. It's kind of like sending folks to neutral corners for a little break. We don't like to do it, but sometimes (which lately may surely seem often) we need to close threads. You can always feel free to ask a moderator or a staff member why a thread was locked or moved and we will reply to you as quickly as possible. I hope this helps. -
Why is BF.net anti-Semitic?
brewerjamie15 replied to imaji's topic in Brewer Fanatic Issues & Suggestions
It may be late in some circles, but I believe that locking this thread is a good idea because not much more can be gained here. I only see trouble headed our way and I would like to avoid that. I would invite anyone interested in continuing the topic or asking for further explanations as to why this thread was locked to contact me via inbox or at my brewerfan email. jamie@brewerfan.net Thank You -

2007 Fan Fest, 9-15 ... Brewers Win!

I'll be there with my wife. Two people total. I have a cooler I will bring I will cook the Bratwurst and Burgers I will bring some bottled water -
Unfortunately due to health concerns, Nicole the Automatic Baker will be unable to fully celebrate Fan Fest the way she'd like to this year. Most commonly she caters the thing to degrees above expectation. This year however, the stress and preparation for such an undertaking would be pretty rough and too much to ask of her. With that in mind, I'm going to take the bull by the horns and get this thing rolling. (How you get a bull to roll is beyond me though) I called the Brewers ticket offices and spoke to Group Sales and found to my surprise that September is rather open for groups at this time. I think we can get tickets going pretty easily, I'd just need to get money up front for tickets. CHEAP AND LOW STRESS FAN FEST 2007 Event date is scheduled for 15 September at 3 pm for a 6:05 start against the Reds. ( Tailgate Time is subject to change due to gates) Basically, I'm going to ask that people pay for Terrace Box Seats which are $18 each. plus $2 for food and supplies. $20.00 per person I"ll need to collect money for those wishing to sit in the BF.Net area up front since I can't afford to advance the tickets for everyone. Next up is the issue of Parking. Traditionally, we get a tailgate slot which costs upwards of $160.00. I'm not going to do that this year. There is no reason that we can not collaborate three vehicles to park side by side in a row and claim this area as ours for tailgating. This is a $24 tailgate spot, not $160.00 The three first arriving vehicles will be moderators and staff members and will pay the parking fee themselves. Groups do it all the time, we can too. Our next concern would be food. I have a great idea for that. Bring your own. In an effort to keep costs down, I'm asking that people volunteer to make something for the group. You don't have to make a huge amount, just enough for a few people. If you are going to make or bring something, please post it. We'll be needing the following: Veggie Tray Dips Chips (5-6 bags) Fruit salad Pasta Salad Potato Salad Something you want to make for the group Soda Bottled Water We need supplies too: Coolers Chairs Tables I'm going to ask for $2.00 from each tailgate attendee for Bratwurst, Hamburgers, and buns, plates, napkins, and other stuff needed. I will bring a grill and provide charcoal and I will cook. Lastly, but probably most importantly for this thing would be beer. Simple. Bring some and share it. We'll have room in coolers for beer if you don't have a cooler. If you want a few beers, bring them. If you want a lot of beers, bring lots. You don't need a game ticket to tailgate with us. You don't need to sit in our area to tailgate with us, ya just gotta contribute for food and stuff. We will locate the pre-game festivities in the North Parking Lot. It is the GIANTS lot located on Story Parkway. It's the lot just north of I-94 where you have to go under a bridge to get to the ball park. If you are going to attend I need to know a.s.a.p. so I can calculate food, tickets, etc. Bring as many people as you want with you. Bring your Aunt Tilly. Bring Uncle Jed. Bring your neighbor, bring your kids, bring your spouse. Just come and have fun with us! $20.00 a head gets you a game ticket and food. You can't beat that with a stick. Deadline to get your money in is 27 August. I will be purchasing tickets on 27 August and hand them out at the tailgate. Please respond with your RSVP to this thread and again to me via PM so we can work out payment arrangements. (edited thread title to include reply deadline - hawing) (edited thread title to include latest details - 1992)

Success with autographs through the mail?

Not to hijack this thread, but I'd like to know too. I have an old 'What's Brewing?' Magiazine of Don Sutton I'd like to see if he'd sign for me. -
I did check, and as far as NON- MPS fields or Milwaukee fields that are polluted go, most were booked up for the next few weeks. I"m trying to come up with a happy alternative though.

As long as we are throwing out opinions and feelings about that specific avatar, I am speaking out by saying I do not like it. I find it insulting and inflammatory. It's your avatar, not mine. I don't have to like it, and I don't. I think that it's over the top and I'd ask that you consider other people's points of view and perhaps change it. You don't have to change it, but I would certainly appreciate you considering it. -
I've been checking into fields for us to play at and unfortunately, with the latest MMSD fiasco of poisoning all the MPS parks with PCB laden fertilizers, obtaining a field is very difficult right now. All available fields seem to be reserved or taken over for Municipal League games both softball and baseball. Unfortunately it appears as though our best chance at a field is going to be mid or late September. If you are all still interested please let me know and I would be happy to set up a reservation. At this time though, I'm hesitant to schedule anything because we had originally wanted to do an August game. This won't be happening in the Milwaukee area.

Brewers! Brewers! Keep turnin' up the heat! Seriously. One thing not mentioned above that the Cubs have better than the Brewers would be the manager.

He was hitting low 90's to maybe mid 90's from what I could tell. The Greene Homer bounced off the concourse, hit the canoe on the beer tent thing, and went out the window. -

I just got back from the game and Parra looked pretty good IMHO. I'd like to see him get some more starts. Suppan can go to the bullpen for all I care. I like the guy as a starter and he does not give up a lot of fly balls, and will strike out a lot of batters. Ok; he gave up a dinger to Shawn Greene that landed -outside- of Miller Park, but other than that, he was awfully good. This is not the only time he's looked good either and instead of nursing him along and treating him like glass I think we wheel him out there and let him throw. -
Drunken bump. it's all patricks fault.
-
What ever you guys do, DO NOT go hang out with Patrick in the parking lot before the game. It's not good. Those people are naughty. I was going to be a good boy and then after running into his crew, it all went awry. I didn't make it in to the game until the 6th.

I see your point. I really do. I guess the whole contraction thing fell to the wayside with me. And at the moment, if contraction talks were to start again I don't think that we as Brewers fans would have much to worry about.

Carlos Beltran to miss Milwaukee series
brewerjamie15 replied to milwaukeesportsfan's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Beltran being gone is good for us. I'll have to go with the flow here and say it helps the Brewers. I don't care if he faces the Cubs or not. We need to win our games and if we do that, it matters very little what Chicago does.
