  1. I hope we make use of all of these 2nd round picks we're going to have.
  2. Escobar is ranked 45th, Jeffress is 49th, Salome is 71st, Gamel is 86th. Clearly Keith Law doesn't like our prospects, but I'd trust Baseball America over an ESPN writer.

  5. That really puts into perspective how little defense means at the 1B position if he only costed our team 7 runs last year. Sounds like a decent deal then for the Brewers for the next 2 years.
  6. Does anybody know how many runs/wins Prince costs our team from his bad defense?
  7. How Gamel and Escobar aren't "impact" prospects puzzles me, but reading that kind of stuff is always fun.

  10. For cost certainty. If Fielder hits 50 homers this year, that contract would look pretty darn good for next year.
  11. Hopefully Mexico gets eliminated after pool play.
  12. Angel Salome could be our starting catcher by July if Kendall is struggling. I know his defense isn't that great, but if it can be serviceable, his bat would give him a lot of value.
  13. If we had a DH spot, I'd gladly take Bonds, but I want nothing to do with him in LF.
  14. It sounds like the DBacks have some interest in Sheets. http://www.azcentral.com/...15/20090115dbgarland.html The Diamondbacks have expressed interest in health-risk, free-agent pitchers such as Pedro Martinez, Ben Sheets, Jason Jennings and Kris Benson, but another pitcher who might resemble Garland in both durability and price could be Braden Looper.
  15. http://www.startribune.co...aiUo8cyaiUiD3aPc:_Yyc:aUU This is rather amusing. Could be a good deal for them if he pitches like he did in the 2nd half for us.
  16. Yeah, that's true. 80 million was way too low of a number to be throwing around, but even a 150 million dollar salary cap with a 60 million dollar floor would go a long way. I like the franshise tag idea as well.
  17. Fair enough, but do you honestly think what the Yankees are doing this offseason is good for baseball and that the rules are ok the way they are now? If you do, I strongly disagree.
  18. I'm pretty sure they would negotiate a new deal with Jones but I could be wrong. That's what we are doing with Mike Lamb. The Twins released him and are paying his contract while we signed him to a separate deal near league minimum.
  19. I don't think Pedro can even make it into the 7th inning. I wouldn't touch him and his next injury waiting to happen.
  20. The Dodgers have signed so many bad contracts in the last few years with Jason Schmidt, Andrew Jones, and Juan Pierre coming to mind. Luckily they've drafted well so their farm system has bailed them out along with acquiring Manny at the deadline. They really need to get Manny back or that OF might have Pierre starting in CF. Yuck.
  21. For the large market teams, sure, but Mark A. wouldn't be raking in the cash if the salary cap was around 80 million or so. There are some pretty big contracts given out in the NFL and NBA so I don't think the players would lose a whole lot in this deal. Look at Aaron Rodgers. He's worth 70 million in the Packers minds. Kobe Bryant and Kevin Garnett signed 100 million dollar plus deals a few years back. I can't believe after an offseason like this one where the Yankees spend 400 million dollars that people can defend the current rules of baseball. There is clearly something wrong when one team can sign that many type A free agents in one offseason.
  22. Well he reported to Spring Training overweight so lack of ambition had a lot to do with it.
  23. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3836749 We all said it was a stupid deal for the Dodgers at the time and we were right.
  24. So was the Overbay trade worth it? I think so.
  25. Good for them. High OBP, good defense, can play 1st or 3rd. Great player.
