  1. The NBA has a salary cap and you don't see the "watered down parity" that you see in the NFL. The reason for that is the short, 16 game season. You can also say, so what, the Yankes are stupid with their money and their player development, but what if they all of a sudden start getting smarter? Then it won't be fair at all. We should be looking at the NBA as a model for the salary cap, not the NFL, and yes, there should be one. Really? Donald Fehr's insistance on not having a salary cap seems to be problem caused by the players.
  2. Hopefully he can keep up that nice WHIP he had last year into this year.
  3. I was at that game, and I immediately left my seat once I found out Mota was coming in and I heard a roar from the crowd as I got to my car and decided that was a mistake after I turned on the radio. Mota started out the year well, but had a high WHIP with a low ERA and that caught up to him, but he did rebound nicely at the end of the year after a horrible slump where 90% of bf.net (including me) wanted to DFA him when somebody (who I can't remember) came off the DL and forced us to option Stetter. It's amazing how many players go back to former teams in free agency. His best days were definitely in LA.
  4. I know that Lowe is the type of pitcher that ages well, but a 4 year deal to a 36 year old player is still risky. Bad contract, IMO. As far as the Braves, their rotation is set up nicely, but you still have to score runs to win and that might be an issue next year. Chipper Jones is never reliable to stay healthy and Jeff Franceour was sent to AAA last year. They're outfield looks pretty poor offensively. I seem to remember their bullpen having issues last year as well. I do like the infield though with Escobar, Johnson, and Kotchmann, but none of them are outstanding offensively. They are just above average players.
  5. I don't understand how a guy as physically fit as Kapler gets hurt so much. I'm glad we didn't pursue him. There will be other options besides Duffy, Nixon and Gwynn that come up before the offseason is over. 4th OFers are a dime a dozen.
  6. Zims is a great place to watch a baseball game on Milwaukee St.
  7. 83 wins at this point makes me happy. All we are is a couple players away from being a playoff team most likely and maybe we'll get lucky and get Hall back to 2005-06 form and get career years out of some players like the Cubs did last year. It can happen.
  8. Does anyone know why the Jays are looking to trade Halladay anyways? Are they trying to rebuild and salary dump?

  10. Ok let's set the stage: The Brewers are neck and neck with the Cubs in contention and July 1st comes around and we're needing help with pitching. Would you trade a Gamel/Jeffress/Escobar type prospect and others for Roy Halladay like we did for Sabathia this year? His contract isn't up until after the 2010 season, and he is already being rumored to being the #1 pitcher on the market when the trading deadline arrives. A lot comes into play of course, like if the Blue Jays are in contention as well, but in that division, I just can't see them taking a top 3 spot. And more importantly, would Melvin do it? Personally I would because of how much it brought to the city of Milwaukee this year and another year of the playoffs would be oustanding. Plus we'd control him for another full season so it wouldn't be as short of a rental.

  12. Yeah it would be nice if CV used simliar to how the Cubs used Marmol last year.
  13. Homer sees the light. Let's put it in mathmatical format for better understanding: Dunn + #2 type starting pitcher > Fielder
  14. I've been talking about trading Fielder since July. It only makes sense. We need pitching and Prince is the best way to obtain it. Signing a guy like Dunn for a similar price only makes sense. Good article by Rosenthal.
  15. It sounds like the Braves have met with Lowe today according to ESPN.
  16. And if Cameron gets traded, he might take back his comments to how well run our organization is.
  17. I can't see him having much use with our squad. He can only play 1B and he wasn't that great of a hitter even in his prime.
  18. I would still pursue Cordero or another reliever. You can never have too many quality relievers given the volatility of their stats from year to year.
  19. Well let's start out with the predictions. I say 35 saves with a 3.5 ERA in 60 innings of work.
  20. It's been a pretty quiet offseason for the Red Sox, but when you're as good as they are with a lot of players locked up long term, you don't have to make many moves.
  21. It's pretty warm in Milwaukee for most of the baseball season last time I checked. Sure, it's cold in April, but the rest of the season is pretty ideal. Plus, you get to play indoors for the first month in a heated stadium so I don't think the weather is as big of an issue as people make it. It's not like we're asking him to live here during the offseason. For me, there's nothing better than summer in Milwaukee because it doesn't get so damn hot that often like it does in the South.
  22. So can all of the "nobody wants to come to Milwaukee" bickering finally end now?
  23. I wonder if cranberries won't make is as eeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaasy to be good anymore.
  24. It will be interesting to see how many Cubs fans are at that game. I would hope Brewer fans won't sell out because it's Opening Day.
  25. Overachieved? You mean the Twins batting over 300 with RISP is overachieving? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
