  1. It's about time. We are due for some luck after 26 years. Yeah it was almost like we were the Twins or something.
  2. We don't have to face Oswalt this weekend, correct? I thought I heard he was on the DL.
  3. I never thought I'd hear those words from a Brewers fan. What a great day it is.
  4. You could compare this to the Los Angeles Lakers this year losing Andrew Bynum for the year and then making the trade for Pau Gasol and the Lakers being a better team as a result, but the fundamental difference is that the Lakers gave up practically nothing, while we gave up our top prospect. The Lakers also control Gasol for a couple more years, while we only have C.C. for the remainder of the season. We would be better off right now with Gallardo's 30 some starts than trading our farm for 17 starts. There's no doubt in my mind about that.
  5. It was totally Brian Anderson's fault that CC didn't throw a no hitter.
  6. If football players can celebrate in the End Zone after a TD, I have no problem with Braun admiring a game winning home run. Let the guy have fun and enjoy his job.
  7. That's interesting that you think that Sheets is more effective than Sabathia. Maybe we should start a thread about it. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  8. I contributed to the Italy hits a couple months ago! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/tongue.gif
  9. Hopefully it's a starting point to the Twins luck running out.
  10. If Weeks can put together a few more series like he did against SF and St. Louis, we are looking at an above average 2B. Please turn the corner, Rickie!
  11. Do you or does anyone have a link to the radio segment?
  12. A nice 3 game sweep by the Yankees over the Twins. Not good in Twinkieville.
  13. Here are the results so far with tonights game still to come: 1) Pujols has been pitched to and we haven't paid the price. 2) Yost has made some questionable moves like using Mota in a close game and batting Torres with a runner on 2nd and 1 out in the 10th inning, but luckily they didn't cost in us any of the games 3) Weeks got picked off last night. 4) McClung and Suppan were left in the game despite poor 1st innings. 5) Mota did indeed pitch and he pitched effectively for 1 inning. Hindsight is always 20/20, but it doesn't look those were really the "keys" to the series. I don't mean to pick on you because I probably would have said a lot of the same stuff. The moral of the story is that baseball is a funny game.
  14. I think Riske is going to be our 8th inning guy for the rest of the year along with Villanueava depending on who is the most rested. A clear indication of that was Yost going with Mota in the 6th, Gagne in the 7th, Riske in the 8th, and Torres in the 9th on Monday in St. Louis. I think that move by Yost was a direct way of Yost telling his team what the Depth Chart is in the pen. Closer/Best Pitcher - Torres 8th Inning - Riske/Villanueva Middle Relief Option 1 - Gagne Middle Relief Option 2 - Mota Lefty Specialist - Shouse Long man - Bush/McClung None of that is set in stone, of course, and Gagne was warming in the 9th inning last night in case if C.C. ran into trouble, but I think that is because Yost wanted to give Gagne a shot in the 9th inning to see what he's got. For now we'll call Gagne our backup closer... gulp.
  15. In other words, if you can throw 96 mph, you will get a job somewhere because every coach/manager thinks they can turn you around.
  16. Remember when Melvin was saying that Turnbow was our 9th inning guy in the offseason before we signed Gagne? Boy, that seems like a long time ago.
  17. Turnbow heads to Phoenix for tests I guess it was only a matter of time for this. He was walking batters like crazy in Nashville, and I'm afraid to say they we probably won't ever see Turnbow again in a Brewers uniform. Hopefully I'm wrong, and he makes a recovery. My suspicion is that the injury has to do with his violent delivery. He always was a max effort pitcher. (reapplied old thread title; it was clearer --1992)
  18. Maybe they'll play the Notre Dame Fight Song after every strikeout he tallies. Also, maybe NBC will pick up the Cubs exclusively for every game. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif
  19. 2 game lead now. The game tonight is huge because we either have a 1 game lead or a 3 game lead after tonight on the Cards. Big difference.
  20. Does he have a 15 gallon tank or a 20 gallon tank? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif I think the question about C.C. is how effective is he going to be in 2009. The guy can pitch. He did struggle last year in the playoffs, but if he gets us there, I'll take my chances with him.
  21. I've always wondered this as well. Well said. I reserve my judgements for Yost and the whole team for that matter on what they do on the field or in the dugout as the manager, and not what they say to the media.
  22. Because he would want to be on a winning team. Plus, if we gave him a good paying contract, I don't think he will care where he plays. There's a chance you are correct, but it's not out of the question. So when our bullpen is thin in the 17th inning, should we bring Hardy in as the pitcher? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/tongue.gif
  23. I have posted on this board that Bill Hall would be back and he is at least for now. Long season to go.
  24. Time is on our side with this decision and it's good to have insurance for Hardy in case if anything goes wrong with Escobar sitting in the minors. If Hardy helped land a #2 or #3 type starter this offseason, I'd say do the deal, but in the mean time, let him rake and win games for us.
  25. What pitcher is unhittable? Even Mariano Rivera blew a save to lose the World Series a couple years ago. The major weakness of Torres is that he isn't known to be a huge strikeout guy and that can get you out of bad situations when your infield defense can't field a ground ball behind you on the play before. That's the only disadvantage to having a ground ball closer, but the fact that not many guys are hitting the ball for power against him tells me he's more than worthy to be our playoff closer if we get that far. I also think it would be smart to start using Counsell in late inning situations for defense at 2B to help out with all of those slow ground balls.
