  1. You're absolutely correct - that we aren't arguing with. What we are arguing with is that starting Kotsay in CF that day cost them the game. In our opinion, it did not. It was a factor, a large factor, and he was put in a situation that should have never happened. Had Morgan screwed up in CF, that I could live with. This was a travesty, a sham, a mockery, it was a travishamockery!
  2. and yet, Mark Kotsay had no business in CF, period. You can paint it any way you want, but the guy was a hack in the OF. There was plenty of blame to go around, but any manager that thought it was a good idea to start him in CF for a playoff game was just plain stupid. The results were as anyone would have expected. Starting him in CF and hoping he wouldn't hurt you was just asinine. Pitchers give up hits, that is baseball. As a manager you try to limit the damage by playing competent players at defensive positions, knowing full well they will be called upon to make plays. Pitchers give up hits, defensive players are paid to make the plays when it happens. Kotsay blew that one big time, and RRR was to blame for setting up the defense the way he did. Wasn't this supposed to be an opinion thread, not a ridicule thread? Geez.
  3. A thread like this already generating 3 pages of posts? How many days until opening day?
  4. "A Restaurant To Be Named Later" reeks of trying to be cute, but not succeeding. Sounds stupid.

    Guess not...
  6. I don't blame Kotsay really, it was a horrible decision made by a horrible manager, RRR is to blame. To give up your defense in CF was inexcusable in a game of that magnitude against the Cardinals of all teams. Still hurts to think about.
  7. I'm still amazed at how many people forget that Kotsay hit a home run that day and walked in 2 of his other 3 plate appearances. He had the highest offensive Win Probability Added of any position player on either team that day. He also badly misplayed a ball in CF that either led to runs or led to a big inning that eventually won the game for the Cardinals. THIS. The guy had no business, zero, playing CF in a game of that magnitude. RR screwed the pooch on that ridiculous decision.
  8. Starting Mark Kotsay in CF for a 2011 NLDS game against the Cardinals... A total and complete blunder by Runnin' Ron Roenicke. (RRR)
  9. Yes, lets cater to the punk and get him who he wants to manage... He isn't good enough to have a lot of input on such things imo. Buster Olney of ESPN reports that Manny Machado wants the Padres "to at least take a look at" his former manager Buck Showalter as they interview Andy Green's replacement. Jon Heyman of MLB Network recently wrote that it's believed that the Padres are "putting a premium on experience," so Showalter would fit into this. It also makes sense that Machado would vouch for his former skipper in Baltimore, but it's unclear if he's a serious candidate. Braves third base coach Ron Washington, who previously worked with A.J. Preller in Texas, is being considered by the Padres as well as less-experienced candidates like Mark Kotsay and Mark Loretta. SOURCE: Buster Olney on Twitter Oct 8, 2019, 1:17 PM ET
  10. We actually ate there semi-frequently on game day before the game. We liked it.
  11. Walker ONLY if he serves in a bench role, not as a starter. If he is the best we can do as a full time starter, then why bother? Not a fan.
  12. 2 for 38 million....I'd do that ASAP! I just don't want to do more than 2 to wrap him up.
  13. Grandal is going to get paid, there is no doubt.
  14. True, but that 18 million is one year, Wheeler is going take a bigger commitment than one season.
  15. Arcia non-tendered? Highly doubtful.
  16. Great way for the Cards to lose. LOVE IT!
  17. Is Gatewood going to be a total bust for us? I had really high hopes for this kid, but he just can't put it together. (opinion not based on the 4 games listed above, duh!)
  18. Villar was even worse on the base paths than Gomez, and that is saying something... Hindsight being 20/20, yeah, it would be nice to have him, however, he was NEVER going to make it out of CC's doghouse, so a trade was pretty much inevitable. Too bad we got completely hosed on the deal we ended up making. A deal, which to this day made zero since from the beginning.
  19. So, if offering Grandal 20 million for another one year contract would get him to re-up with us, would you do it? I would, in a heartbeat! I highly doubt he will want to take that route at his age, but hey, it's 20 million guaranteed, would it at least tempt him?
  20. I wish I was an Astros fan...
  21. Brewers fans don't like nice things. Every time we get a great player, someone wants to trade him for prospects. Hell, people here even want to trade Yelich. Hey he's good, let's trade him for prospects rather than have a superstar player to build around.
  22. I was against trading Villar at the time for Schoop. Not really against trading him though. He was in CC's doghouse, that much was obvious. He wasn't coming out. So having him rot on our bench wasn't preferable. At that time, trading him (due to being on CC's craplist) had to happen. Had we kept Villar at 2B, there is a chance that Hiura would have already been traded, so there is that.

Anyone here watch Survivor? I've seen every episode of every season, wondering if there could be some discussion here?
  24. NBA team owners now being called Governors. It's practically comical.
  25. Wasn't just the Cards that had issues with Acuna, but also his own teammates (not because of of the HR trot, but the long single): https://www.cnn.com/2019/10/04/sport/braves-teammates-call-out-ronald-acuna-jr-for-lack-of-hustle/index.html Yes, the HR pose is fun (I still contend that Reggie Jackson invented it - at least the modern version) and MLB definitely needs to allow that kind of fun in the game to draw younger viewers (and I think they do). However, it seems anyone who get's upset by those types of antics is labeled as as a "Get off my lawn", "holier than thou", baseball purist that doesn't know how to have fun. Sometimes these antics are ill-timed and come across as selfish and more about ego than about helping your team win and being smart about playing the game. Acuna had a great night at he plate, but clearly some of his teammates feel he could use some maturity. He is young, so hopefully that will come and he'll learn when to pose and when to hustle. The HR pose is for one purpose, to bring attention to yourself! The "fun" is watching 'all for myself' players like Acuna when he does his pose and the ball doesn't go out. Last night he may have cost the Braves the game. agreed.
