  1. Anything by Soulja Boy Tell 'em can be put on this list.
  2. "Using this logic, DM should have traded Braun and Prince after they had those great 07 seasons. " There's a large difference between Braun/Fielder and Hall. Hall was a .600 OPS player in the minors, and had shown no indicators that he would be a great player before that. Braun and Fielder both tore up the minors, and had clearly shown that they were legitimate hitters.
  3. If we don't resign Cam for next year, Gerut damn well better be on the team. He is a lot better than he's been hitting in his short tenure in Milwaukee.
  4. How do you propose he uses the money that he does have on prospects? That 37 million HAS to go to filling holes because Jack Z was terrible at drafting pitchers, and as such, DM has to spend money on overpaid veteran pitchers. Either way, Tampa Bay is clearly the exception here. Friedman has done a terrific job turning that team around (and it didn't hurt to have a bunch of #1 picks in a row). And they are going to have to spend a lot more money in the next 4 years to keep the people they have together. On top of that, their entire rotation is homegrown, and their bullpen is scrap parts that happened to pan out. How have they spent money outside the organization at all for pitching? Pretty much the entire team is homegrown with a few notable exceptions.
  5. Anyone who blames DM for lack of pitching depth in the organization should NOT be someone who is giving all the credit to Jack Z for the hitting depth we do have. A lot of people on this board like to give Jack Z credit for the influx of hitting talent we've had in the last 5 years, but if you do that, then you also have to give Jack Z credit for drafting a lot of high risk pitching prospects that didn't work out. Secondly, Hall's contract, when inked, was not a bad deal. He had two very good seasons with the bat and had shown that he had a lot of versatility in the field as well. While I may not have done it anyway since he was so spectacularly bad in the minors, I can't blame Melvin for locking him up through his arby years for cheaper than he would have been if he continued hitting like he did in 05 and 06. The only truly awful move I can see so far has been Suppan, and the Brewers were desperate for an arm that year. Kendall was pretty bad too, but he'll be gone next year (I hope). He may have given up a bit too much for Linebrink, but we ended up with 2 draft picks and none of the players he traded has panned out at all so far.
  6. Echo Tap, formerly Brewerfan.net Madison has finished the season. We ended up winning the the league we played in for the first half while going only 3-2 in the top league. All in all, a good season.
  7. "Sure his May was great but that's about the only time he's been good the past 2 years" Does this not include his 2.12 ERA last year in the bullpen? Or his 3.9 ERA the year before? The guy has been a solid reliever for most of his career, and most of this season. He's looking like Manny Parra right now. Scared to pitch, so he's serving up meatballs and/or missing.
  8. I have never caught a ball at a baseball game. I am certainly willing to do a little bit of pushing to catch my first ball, which I would keep (it would also have to be a game ball, not a bullpen ball). After that, I wouldn't care. If a ball came at me, I would certainly catch it, and I would definitely give it away after the first one (unless it was something super significant that would yield some sort of return). I don't care if I'm in my mid-20s, it's an adolescent fantasy that was never fulfilled. You better believe I would love to fulfill it now.
  9. If I remember correctly, I've read that he's actually whined about not closing the games out. I think they got sick of him and his ego, not to mention his performance.
  10. "Pena is one of the better set-up men in baseball. He should of been their closer last yr, but arz like the cubs believe in using their best reliever in the most stressful innings, not just for the 9th inning." Should this be in blue? Are we talking about the same Tony Pena? (Yes, I know it's the reliever) http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/p/penato03.shtml Those are some pretty mediocre stats for a reliever.
  11. "So, does anyone else get the feeling that Milledge will be the newest brewer killer? " Do the Pirates have anyone that could be called a Brewer killer? Wouldn't they need to win a game to have a Brewer killer?
  12. I don't think Rickie's the guy to go for on healing your wrist completely.
  13. "Cubs pitchers pitched above ability last year, they are about where they should be this year if not still slightly better. " Except for Harden, I agree with this statement. I think he has underperformed this year.
  14. What if you put a dehumidifier in the room right next to it? Or two? I'm not saying that it would be efficient enough or worth it to do it, I'm just curious if it would work.
  15. I wasn't at the game, so that's why we lost. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Zach must have shown up.
  16. What kind of organization would keep someone that has taken marijuana? Wait...
  17. A single is pretty much always better than a walk. I don't think anyone would dispute that, unless you had a team that was super aggressive on the basepaths and would get thrown out all the time.
  18. What would Willie Walks-Every-Time's wOBA be?
  19. He actually only gets one spin in each of these videos, he just does it so smooth that it's hard to tell.
  20. It was a good game. I'm still incredibly disappointed.
  21. I completely disagree with the statement that if Marmol stinks, the Cubs are immediately removed from contention ("the Cubs are done"). I guess we'll have to leave it at that. EDIT: I also never said you thought losing Zambrano would hurt them more, but you did say that if any of Harden, Zambrano or Marmol perform poorly, then the "Cubs are done." That sounds like something near an equivalence statement. I was making the point that Harden and Zambrano are significantly more likely to make them "done" than Marmol. That's not the complete argument, though. The next step is to show how much more replaceable Marmol is due to his role, and how they can still win 90 games without Marmol. Forest for the trees.
  22. I completely disagree. Zambrano going down would hurt them a LOT more than Marmol. Marmol is going to be worth at most 2 wins if he pitches great all year. That can be recovered reasonably easily. If Zambrano pitches like he has, he's worth 2 wins at minimum. Marmol going down would hurt them, but it would absolutely not be the end of the season for them. It takes far far more than losing one good reliever to cripple a team. Relievers just don't pitch enough innings to be worth all that much in terms of wins. EDIT: And the point of the hypothetical is to attempt to see if you honestly believe a reliever is just as valuable as a starter. If I can get you to admit that the starter is more valuable, it becomes more an argument of showing how they can recover the loss of Marmol since it's not as significant as you made it seem..
  23. Let's say you're a Cub fan. If you had to choose between Carlos Marmol being ineffective and Carlos Zambrano being a replacement level starter (i.e. turn into Suppan) for the Cubs, which would you choose? EDIT: On that note, here's the Brewer equivalent of that statement: Let's say you had to choose between Trevor Hoffman being ineffective and Gallardo turning into Suppan. Which would you choose?
  24. One relief pitcher is going to break the Cubs? He's only going to pitch at MOST 100 innings. I'd say Rich Harden and Zambrano's health is far more important to the Cubs than Marmol.
  25. 6-0 now. We got bumped up to the 2nd highest league, but we kept up pretty well tonight. Thankfully the defense carried the offense. We have really not hit the ball well so far. To still be undefeated so far is lucky as hell.
