I'll let it be known that I don't like this signing. Hopefully I'll have to eat crow. This is a lot of money to tie up in a guy who I don't think is that good.

I really don't like the idea of giving Randy Wolf a 3 year deal. As for who else to go after in FA? Nobody. I don't want to tie up big contracts for average pitchers.

Reminds me of Kevin Mench. Getting major league players(that's even debatable with Gomez) doesn't help anyone if they're terrible.

Link Even though I'm not a huge fan of Bowden, I would've taken him over Gomez. So we actually could of gotten a pitcher. Ugh.

That's a good point. Times are tough and (correct me if I'm wrong) I don't think Attanasio is getting any richer. I think I remember hearing the team lost money this year.

In a dream offseason, what could Melvin realistically get with this $14 mil that could turn us into a playoff team? What are you hoping for?

Maybe I could get behind this if we used the money we saved on resigning Prince. I doubt it though.

Gomez's potential is what? Michael Bourn if all the stars align? I have no confidence of us getting a good pitcher with this supposed money we save from this. I think the chances of us signing another Suppan is a lot higher than us getting a "GOOD" starting pitcher in FA.

What will you think if JJ replicates his 09 numbers?that it was a lateral at best trade? I don't know if I'd even start Gomez over Gerut who I also wasn't a fan of.

I wouldn't exactly call acquiring Johan Santana and JJ Hardy getting rid of. Those are pretty significant trades. I'd say that the Twins got the short end of that deal, just like we did here.

A Top 10 prospect that two teams got rid of. Maybe if we're lucky some other team will still believe in his "potential" in a year or two. I don't believe he'll ever amount to anything.

Carlos Gomez makes Melky Cabrera look like Mickey Mantle. I wouldn't feel so bad if we dumped Hardy for salary if we actually got a decent young piece back but lets be serious here. Carlos Gomez sucks. He has speed... and that's it. Now imagine him if he wasn't allowed to run on those few times he actually does reach base. I don't believe he'll ever be a good player.

Big freaking deal we saved money that we can use to sign "2 pitchers" with. Like who? What big pitcher is out there let alone two that we have a realistic chance at signing? I prefer we don't spend a bunch on pitching because I don't want to be stuck with another Suppan. We should of just kept Tony Gwyn Jr.

Are you freaking kidding? Is there like another piece to this trade that I don't know about? Carlos Gomez, outfield Jason Kendall? I have absolutely 0 confidence in Doug Melvin. Please don't make any other trades, you hurt this team enough.

I'm not particularly happy with this but hard to blame him for the pitching. I figured Melvin wouldn't drop the ax because he would be next in line of accountability.

I saw it on the news. Tokyo eliminated too. I hope Rio gets it, I'll be peeved if Madrid gets it.

Well Chicago is eliminated in the first round of voting.

For selfish reasons I'd want it in Chicago since it'll probably be my only opportunity to go to an Olympic games but otherwise I don't know how good of an idea it is for numerous reasons. Rio probably should get it since South America has never had one.
