  1. In a part time role I think he's better than Hart. I'd endeavor to play him half time. But on the other hand I don't like players dictating playing time. If Hart becomes the player he can be Edmonds has to accept a diminished role. I think management does owe it to a player to explain his role to him, but that's pretty liquid for the Brewers because of such uncertainty in CF and RF. He's going to have to remain flexible or we owe it to him to release him asap. It's a tough position right now.
  2. I think tha Escobar has won the right, temporarily, to bat number 2.
  3. Well, I can't speak to this issue in baseball, but in other sports, most notably soccer, owners who are rich enough sometimes do pay for players out of their pockets, and sometimes to the tune of 200million dollars in a single season, see Manchester City recently. So, it might happen in baseball. It wouldn't be surprising, but by and large I think you're right.
  4. We need to get our collective mojo going so that the Cardinals sign him. No way I wouldn't pay to see LaRussa and Dukes go at it.
  5. I think this year is different from last year; I think there's more of a bottom line mentality for Macha and Melvin. They need wins. Soup is not going to give them wins. They cut him or banish him to long relief. But any pitcher who isn't one of the 12 best pitchers has negative value to the club, so you either stand on your 12.5 mil and lose an extra game or two, or take the better pitcher and pay out 13 or 14 mil--you gotta cut the player. If he's still on the roster opening day I think it means Melvin is pretty confident about his job and he's willing to let Macha sink, which is kinda cool if you think about it.
  6. I still say that the Brewers will shock us all and cut Suppan.
  7. Fixing Suppan? Wouldn't that be between him and his wife?
  8. I didn't mind how Parra threw. He was aggressive and worked on his main weakness--locating the fastball. I don't mind the fastball left high because it seems to me the result are better than leaving a slider or hammer at the belt.
  9. I'm pulling for Marveson big time. He's versatile, and is young enough to improve. He be my long man right now, and given the odd start with the thought that he may one day be a permanent member of the rotation. As other have said, if the Brewers lose him they are stupid.
  10. I think there's a good chance he makes since he's probably the 3rd best outfielder. I like his offense better Gomez and his defense better than Hart or Braun. I don't like him in center defensively but in right and left he's the best we got (late inning replaement for Braun). I also think there's a better than 50% chance that Gomez implodes, he certainly looks terrible at the plate (I know it's way too early), in which case we go with a below average outfielder in center.
  11. That was pretty weak on the Giants part. I'm a traditionalist for sure. I love the celebration but I do believe it deserves a proper plunking--something really hard and high. I'm pretty much sick of sports celebrations they're becoming so much oneupmanship. So I say go for it. Go for the over the top creative celebration, but please make the retaliation hurt big time.
  12. Gomez Vs. Escobar-- That's easy. Gomez will pummel him. Escobar better hope this isn't a caged match--he may not come out alive.
  13. I think you are right. Sveum wouldn't have made a difference. But I do believe he's a better fit for Milwaukee manager-wise.
  14. It's obvious. He's on the Prince Fielder diet. Aren't we all going to be pleased with 44 HRs this year. Go Casey Go!
  15. I can't help but think that maybe re-upping Sveum might have been the better choice.
  16. Agreed. Although I'd still like to shake things up. Suppan would not be a bad choice in long relief.
  17. That would be awesome if we had any good young pitchers! I'd agree wholeheartedly.
  18. I don't think anyone dislikes Soup. And in fact I think he's a positive influence in the clubhouse. But cutting a guy who isn't one of your 12 best pitchers will energize the pitchers and make them understand it's production that counts. That results on the field is what determines whether a player makes the squad or not. I did not mean to disparage Soup in the clubhouse. I'll probably be wrong because of the whole money thing, but I've got an inclination that's there's some pressure on Macha and Doug this year and they better create some excitement. So yeah, I'm going with the odd notion that they'll keep there 12 best pitchers.
  19. Tradition has its reasons and must be obeyed. So no. No chance of a six man rotation.
  20. Man, I think this is a tough one this year. SP: Gallardo, Wolf, Davis, Parra, Bush Long: Vargas, Narveson Middle: Coffey, Hawkins, Stetter Closer: Hoffman I think the biggest surprise of Spring Training will be the cutting of Jeff Suppan. I think this will energize the clubhouse and fans alike. Lofgren, in a mini surpise, will be traded. Villy will be optioned in the beginning of the end for him. Infield: Prince, Rickie, Escobar, McGehee Outfield: Braun, Gomez, Hart Catchers: Zaun, Kotteras Bench: Edmonds, Gerut, Counsell, Inglett, right-handed bat from waivers or a small statue of Bud Selig that they can take on the road. Gamel optioned.
  21. The first two are easy. 1) I want Gamel to re-establish himself as an elite prospect. I just don't know if that can happen as long as Macha is the ruler. 2) Jeffress. Please. these guys don't grow on trees. Harder after that. I'd say: 3) Lucroy--ever upward offensively and defensively. I just want to have a guy behind the plate who can be productive for 3/4 years. 4) I'd like to say Cain here, but if Gomez does anything I fear his best hope lies elsewhere. So I'll say any pitcher drafted after the first three rounds of the last two drafts. Someone has to emerge to go along with Arnett. 5) Odo. God I hope Odo, because every personal red flag has gone up concerning this young man. And by red flag, I mean my total ignorance when evaluating young talent especially pitchers.
  22. Yeah, we're younger than the Cubs--but you also gotta know that it's just killing Macha that we are younger. I can only imagine the players he'd like to trade for.
  23. Don't like the state of Wisconsin behind the M on the sleeve. But the Milwaukee is absolutely awesome. Save me from powder blue though. It makes everyone look, well, you know...like they're from North Carolina--sure, that's what I mean, North Carolina.
  24. Man oh man do these line-ups look weak. Really. I was concerned about the hitting conceptually with the jettisoning of Cameron, but when I look at the postings I see five or six weak spots in the batting order. Weeks I'm fine with. I still believe in his talent and will be the least surprised person on earth if he has a breakout year. But geez after Braun and Fielder I see a bunch of low achievers and red flags popping up. Looking at these line-ups I hope that Gamel wins the 3rd base job as well. I'll also be rooting for Gerut to do well and take most of the starts. But truly Gomez, Hart, Zaun, Escobar, Casey scare the beegeebers outta me. I would definitely not be afraid to face the Crew if I was an over replacement value pitcher. Fielder is gonna put up Ruthian Bond-like walk numbers maybe. I think Macha will go: Weeks Hart Braun Fielder McGehee Zaun Escobar Gomez Pitcher My line up Weeks Gamel Braun Fielder Gerut (ouch) Zaun Escobar Gomez Pitcher with Gallardo hitting in front of Gomez when he pitches
