  1. Really? Other than Parra, the rest of this year's rotation represent about the healthiest pitching careers in recent memory. Until this summer Bush has never been on the DL, never even injured in college. Suppan has a chance to make his 30th start the last week of the season-that's 11-30 starts seasons in a row. Looper has made 30 starts each of his last 3 seasons-his first 3 seasons as a major league starter. In 12 seasons overall I don't recall him ever being on the DL. Yo missed most of last year but it wasn't due to a pitching or arm injury.Well, yeah. Gallardo doesn't finish the season. Bush misses time. Parra. They're getting older not younger. I can't imagine it'll get better. And if you're right, which indeed may be the case, then it's bound to happen even moreso. But I take your point.
  2. One thing we have to realize is that we need a minimum of seven viable starting pitchers--our current five plus two others. I've seen nothing that suggest the five we do have can complete a season. I also think they'll need to add at least two AAA starters who project better than what we currently have/had at AAA. So basically they have to resign Looper. Just another question: what good pitcher would sign with Milwaukee? We'll never come up with the best offer to a truly good pitcher (like Lackey). I think we need to brace ourselves for an unproductive off-season pitching wise.
  3. What are you going to do with all the money you'll save?
  4. If I was Gamel I'd tell the Brewers to move me. I do it respectfully, and I'd do it with humility, and in secret, but if this organization really thinks it has something special in Casey, then I quite frankly don't want to be apart of that organization
  5. This is exactly the kind of trade we should make. Sure, I want Slowey, and maybe we could get him if Young is not just a pretender, but a pariah. Find someone that the Twinkies want to get rid of badly and maybe, just matbe, Slowey comes our way. I also love the idea of getting rid of Casey. He's gonna flop next year.
  6. I want those draft picks badly. Offer arby, and please don't accept, please Felipe do the right thing.
  7. Sometimes at night, when everything was just right, I could pick up a few innings of the Tigers' game as a 9 year old kid. His voice was so soothing, he sounded like god or Santa Claus. Class indeed, and he will be missed.
  8. I'd take anyone who could eat innings in the bullen.
  9. We'll see who is right very shortly because Hardy will be traded. I say it's gonna be for junk. I'm betting either: a) a Corey Hart like outfielder, or b) a Braden Looper type pitcher, or c) a decent reliever I'm hoping it's some minor leaguers with upside. But I can't see anyone giving up a decent arm for this guy.
  10. Casey will have to post some credible numbers next year for him to have any true value. Best to hold him. I can't imagine he's worth Vasquez at this point. But of course if he posts similar numbers next year, and he stays healthy, he's worth more than measley 'ol Vasquez.
  11. Its the exact opposite, there would be a need to move Hardy before when he was gone after 2010, now there isn't. If tehy don't get a good offer they can send Escobar down and have him actually earn his way up. As for Anderson, the one thing the Brewers can draft are power hitting 1B. Why trade for one who might end up being a product of his A+ ball park when you can likely pull out a college slugger who will be better faster anyway? This is as it should be. Next year Escobar shouldn't even sniff the majors until Hardy has regained his value in the marketplace. Melvin's got the chance to do something right, and if he opts to trade Hardy, then I don't believe they will have much in the way of long term chances. Hardy is one of the best SS in the major leagues who had a bad year. And if they jettison him for that bad year, well, I don't know. Then maybe the movie is right: "They Shoot Horses Don't They/"
  12. But what if the other GMs main goal is to improve his team, and he needs a SS? Is it more important to put the screws to a team, or is it more important to fill your holes? The Orioles look to be pretty good in 2011, and would be better if they had Hardy. Okay, point taken, and ultimately you may be right. But if I'm a truly successful GM, I'll go get what I need for cheaper than someone else who overpays. If a team's got a problem, you are duty bound to take advantage of them. And if the Brewers are stupid enough to trade Hardy over the off season, even though Escobar is the better player, then they deserve to be fleeced.
  13. If I'm another team, I'm giving almost nothing. Let the Brewers suffer internally if they believe someone is going to give any thing near equal value. As soon as they promoted Escobar they screwed themselves, and now it's time to pay the piper. If they do get a good player in return I would suggest they got one from an incompetent GM.
  14. Would you (or anyone) trade Casey for any of the other possible ROY candidates? If so, that person you want most is ROY. In other words, Casey, while I like him tons, is probably the least valuable ROY candidate. (I know I'm overstating this a bit, but you get the drift).
  15. Everyone, I repeat everyone, has a right to act like an idiot. And everyone has a right to call it something different. And everyone has the right to believe in what they're shovelling. And everyone has a right to the contarian view. Lets enjoy it all.
  16. Playing Patterson is simply the lowest point that the Melvin era has sunk to. It is, in a phrase, inexcusable.
  17. I thought it was hilarious and joyous. But I'd still aim at Prince's head next time he was in San Fran. I'd make sure to turn it into a big deal. The Brewers aren't good enough to act like the Cinncinati Bengals in the end zone. Fun indeed and totally disrespetful.
  18. Trading Parra is cutting off your nose to spite your face. He's gotta stay and fulfill his potential. I'd anchor him at the #5 spot and one of these years he'll turn on the jets. Trading Fielder? Disaster. Keeping him? Disaster. They trade him and 90% of the people in Milwaukee now hate management. You better be assured of a winning season-playoff bound team. In all likelihood you won't get the farm for him because he has too many warts, other GMs know the Crew are desparate for pitching, and as said there doesn't appear to be enough right fit (although SF seems possible). His max value is now. But Prince isn't replaceable even if he plays 1st base. Gamel and Casey won't put up half his numbers. You're trading your only legit lefthanded batter. I don't think Lopez will stay--why would he? Hardy will be shown the door. Counsell is one year older, I doubt he can repeat what he did this year. What is Rickie's next injury? I say this because I think the Brewers depth in the infield is illusory. Even if you manage to bring down a Matt Cain the offense is going to suffer a lot without Prince. I say hold him and take a chance someone overpays next year, unless someone backs up the truck and unloads a young stud pitcher and a can't miss centerfield prospect.
  19. Two words: Pat Listach Don't even talk to me about this guy until he's proven himself. If I'm another team I sure don't want him--way too risky. If he hits .290 with 25 HRs next year in fulltime duty with very few games lost with injuries then I'll have something to discuss.
  20. I love Cam; I really, really do. But I'd rather offer him arby and have another team sign him. At this point I think the Crew are two or three years away from contending, and the draft choices are more important. But if we did sign him I'd still be happy. I love good defensive players.
  21. Keep everyone but Kendall and Counsell. Draft picks are more important.
  22. I'd like to see the two greatest baseball players ever--Honus Wagner and Josh Gibson. (insert wink) But seriously, I'd love to watch the formative days of baseball and the dead ball era. I've always thought the home run was cheap and loved the triple. I like the stolen base and drunks spiking one another in a rage. I'd like to see Cool Papa Bell score from 1st on a single. And I'd love to see Tris Speaker patrolling centerfielder. I've always thought that Speaker was the most underrated great player, and someone I'd choose over Wille Mays in CF all-time. I'd like to see King Kelly and his entourage or gang after a ball game, following him into a bar and observing him holding court. And the babe, fat old man Babe, dying Babe, inelegant and brutal till the end. The guy who popularized and mythologized baseball and sent it down the wrong path which ultimately led to the worst thing about baseball--the DH. I'd just want to heckle him without mercy until I was beat up by his unthinking minions.
  23. I think the Brewers will shoot themselves in the foot if Hardy is not the starting shortstop next year. He'll have no trade value over the winter )at least none comensurate with his true worth) and he's got to right himself before we let go. I feel so strongly about this that I'd rather trade Escobar than Hardy, and I like Escobar way better than Hardy (and have been saying so for two years now). We can't give away players.
  24. I think that Casey should be our new-old Billy Hall. Gamel should be given the 3rd base job next year with Casey being our super sub. I generally don't trust players who haven't rung up consecutive excellent years, so I wouldn't be surpised at all if Casey tanked completely next year.
  25. I don't think Melvin should be fired. I think he's the best that we can hope to get given we are a small market franchise--what really astute potential GM would want a small market club? More importantly I think the organization as a whole is moving in the right direction, especially concerning pitching, but as some have pointed out it may be too late for the Fielder/Braun team to make a serious run. I have no problem with that. We weren't going to have a long term relationship with Fielder anyways, and we still might with Braun given his proclivities. Finding a hard hitting lefthanded 1st baseman--I'm not worried about that. Melvin's not perfect; you've got trade when player values are high, but for Milwaukee, I think he's the amswer right now.
