  1. I wouldn't say it's a specific physical difference, but more of a result of habit. Starters generally pitch late into games all at one time and are good at pacing themselves. Relievers usually come in for an inning or less, so they let it all fly for that short time. Also keep in mind that the starter that throws 100 pitches gets 4 days rest before doing it again. If you had a starter throw 30 pitches and get lit up, you wouldn't expect him to go out the next night and be rested, would you? As for Turnbow, I agree with whoever said that he's a bit of a head case, but I also think fans in general were too quick to completely turn on him. Any one of us would be a "head case" as well if fans treated us the way that they have Turnbow. As I said in another thread, the guy can't get to ball 2 without 30,000 people booing him. It's idiotic in my opinion. Give the guy a break.
  2. The placedo effect doesn't work when you tell the patient it's a placebo.
  3. Loved (and some memories): Teddy Higuera Greg Brock (he hit a home run to tie the game in the 9th of my very first Brewer game) Carlos Lee (he just seemed like a fun guy) Dan Plesac (struck out Darryl Strawberry, my neighbor's favorite player, to win the All-Star game) Lyle Overbay (OOOOhhhhh) Hated (and still hate): Gary Sheffield, and... ...there are no more. I dislike other former Brewers, but no one to the extent of Sheffield, so I feel it would be an injustice to include anyone else on this list.
  4. From August 16th to September 8th last year, Gross played in 21 games, had 64 PAs, and his line was .333/.406/.614. It may not be the same numbers-wise that Kapler is doing right now, but it was over a longer stretch than I personally expect Kapler to do it. Edit: You beat me endaround, but it's even more telling to show two different times when Gross went on hot stretches.
  5. He also made some great plays in the field. Even though he's struggling a little on the routine things that he's always struggled with, he seems to be making some of the insane plays that I never expected him to. I don't remember a time where I thought our 2nd baseman would be making plays in short LF. Also, regarding why the Brewers haven't talked about giving him an "extension", didn't he sign a MLB contract when he was drafted? It wouldn't really make sense to offer him an extension if he's not going to be getting substantial arbitration-year raises. Then again, maybe I don't understand how that all works, so someone please correct me if I'm way off.
  6. I can also agree with this, which is why I got annoyed last year when Estrada never got booed but Turnbow heard it every time he reached ball 2.
  7. I would be more than happy to face Zito for 162 games a year. Harang drives me absolutely nuts. I have a feeling the Reds pitchers will make me throw many things at the TV this year.
  8. Not sure I understand the Gross hate either. Gross went on a tear last season that lasted much longer than the one that Kapler is on right now. Don't get me wrong, I'm really starting to like Kapler as well. I just don't think there's any reason to act like Kapler is that much better than Gross. I like the platoon, and I hope they keep it until Cameron comes back.
  9. "If your fingernail gets in the way of your swing, just bite that thing off."
  10. I'm in http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  11. That's why, as TC said, you should already have someone up in the 7th. Just because he's not struggling yet doesn't mean you can't get someone up throwing just in case. There's no reason you can't have someone up stretching before the 7th in any game. If the starter struggles, they're that much more ready to go and can probably be warm 1 or 2 batters sooner than if they just got up when the starter started struggling.
  12. Where in Haudricort's story does it say that he left for a championship? He basically said he left for more money. What's wrong with that? Besides, it's not like the Reds are some horrible team. They have a bright future, and if Coco stays healthy, he could be a real leader for them in getting to that future. If a player stays here for less, you applaud him. If he doesn't, and goes somewhere else for more money, what reason do you really have to boo him? Because he's "selling out" for doing exactly the same thing that any of us would have done in the same situation?
  13. Jason, I seem to remember this story from another thread. Perhaps one at Lambeauleap, but I don't feel like looking cause I think it's on the old read-only version. Anyway, as to the original question, I would try to find out what other common ground there is. I dated a girl last year (well, I guess tried to date again), and she was a hardcore Brewer fan. She was also a million other things that I dreamed about in a girl. Then I also found out that she was a complete psychopath, including the disease that some of you may remember from old Dilbert comics as "the topper". She was a baseball fan, but it got a little annoying that she seemed to think she knew more about baseball than me. Especially since she really didn't know all that much, but was determined to "prove" that she did. And when I called her out on it, she would get "angry" with me. Worst...relationship...ever. Now I'm dating a hardcore Cubs fan, and I'm insanely happy. Obviously not because she's a Cubs fan, but oddly enough, she's sane. Point is, dating because of a common interest in baseball, or anything else for that matter, can lead to some very bad things. Don't base it off that.
  14. I guess I see something completely different. Fair enough. The Brewers didn't want to extend him because they wanted to see him pitch first. They did this knowing that if he did well (which he did), he would come with a higher price tag after the season. Again, fair enough. That's what the free-agent market is for. So they had a time to talk set aside...on Monday. And Melvin calls and says, "Give me an answer by Friday". Again, failing to see where Cordero is the bad guy. I wonder the same thing. Stringfellow tells the Brewers that they have a better offer; Melvin apparently thinks they're bluffing and doesn't make a counter-offer. So, can someone once again explain to me how this makes him such a bad guy that he deserves to be booed? I'm not saying that I believe all of this, but why not at least give him the benefit of the doubt? Sheffield gets booed, and now Cordero? How do these two deserve the same treatment from Brewer fans?
  15. For those in Wisconsin with Directv and the extra FSN package, there is usually an alternate FSN channel that carries the game since FSN Wisconsin won't have it. At least, that's how it always worked for me last year. I've sinced ditched Directv and gone back to Time Warner Cable for a million other reasons, but that was one of the nicer features of the FSN package from what I remember. Just flip through the FSN channels until you get to the alternates and it should probably be there somewhere. And Hawing, I would love to join the chat as I did for most of last season, but I'm a little bit in and out of consciousness after surgery yesterday, so I regrettably won't be there tonight. Eventually I want to move my room around so I can be at my computer and face the TV because I miss the chat.
  16. How does that put the icing on the cake? The way it sounds from that, Cordero wanted to stay and the Brewers weren't that interested. If this story carries some truth, then I would see no reason to boo Cordero. I guess I'm confused why you think this "puts the icing on the cake"...
  17. Probably wouldn't be good to direct her to this thread then. Or maybe just block her from pages 4 and 5 http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif It's nice to see that she responded so quickly. Nicely done MickeyDavis. Still no response from FSN, but I guess the question is answered, so we'll just have to wait a month.
  18. I have a Brewerfan.net license plate cover and live in Oshkosh, but unfortunately I was in surgery yesterday morning so it wasn't me. Unless someone was driving my car, in which case my roommate is dead. Put me on board with those pissed off that FSN is showing the Bucks tonight. Guess I'll just play The Show and listen to the radio.
  19. Is this supposed to be directed at me? If so, it hardly seems necessary. I was asking a simple question about how much Coco was involved in the negotiations. Either way, I just think it's stupid to boo former players outside of Sheffield. Coco never said anything bad about Milwaukee, and in fact said many good things about Milwaukee. He was very good while he was here, and he left for more money, just like any other player would...just like most of us would if given the chance. Are we 100% certain that Melvin was even interested in matching the offer?
  20. Huh? No comprende. (Or is that your point?) I didn't follow the Coco proceedings all that closely, so I'm wondering if Coco was really involved or if his agent just worked the deals and told him where he was going later. A lot of players could really care less about the business side of it, as long as their agent gets them the most money possible. And I realize that the Brewers were never given a chance to match the offer, but was this the doing of Coco or the agent?
  21. Worst...bracket....ever.
  22. Do you really think Ann is capable of operating a camera? Man am I glad she's gone.
  23. I haven't. It will be interesting to see if we get an answer and if we do are they all the same generic responses. I'm going to email Wolfley and see if he knows anything about this. I don't expect him to write anything in his column but I'd like to know what's going on with FSN. I haven't heard anything yet, either. Just my two cents on Bill and BA. I think we really are very fortunate. I really liked Matty V, and Sutton was basically the emotion of Vasgersian minus the knowledge, which was unfortunate. I think BA has a very professional handle of the game, and has shown more emotion since he first started. If I remember correctly, Sutton was a little more inhibited when he first started as well. Bill annoys me sometimes, but I think he's one of the more intelligent color guys in the game.
  24. The only former Brewer that I'll boo is Sheffield. For Coco, do we really know how much he even knew about the negotiations? And anyone that's even thinking of booing Jenkins is a flat-out idiot. You don't boo a guy that stuck with the team for years, gave us a million memories, and left because the team cut him loose. I swear, if I'm at a game against the Phillies and someone around me boos for Jenkins, whatever is in my hand will be thrown. Edit: I should clarify; I don't mind booing for Coco since he represents the idea that the Brewers are losing and probably one inning away from a loss. I just don't like the idea of booing him for "what he did to us".
