  1. I guess if the argument from Hart is that he'll be better at getting on base if he's leading off, then I see no harm in giving it a try. Statistically, it doesn't seem to make much sense, but I'm not against switching things up just for the sake of switching it up. If Rickie continues to hit well at #5 then it just makes him that much cooler than Soriano. I would rather have Rickie hitting 2nd so he continues to get more PAs, but I'm not really crazy opposed to what RR is doing right now.
  2. 1) Weeks - It's at least partially because he's home-grown and how far he's come since those early struggles. Also gotta thank Melvin for not giving up on him and sending him to mash for the Rangers. 2) Morgan - Good heavens, he is just a fun guy to watch. I get excited when a ball is hit to center or wherever he's playing, and every time he comes up to bat. 3) Braun - His contract tells me he loves being a Brewer and could even possibly spend his entire career here, and the way he approaches at-bats, especially since he learned how to wait for his pitch, is enjoyable. 4) K-Rod - I realize he just got here, but man that guy has some ridiculous stuff. Of course I had seen him pitch before, but it's different when he's wearing a Brewers uniform. Now I'm watching more closely, and I can't wait to see him come back out again. 5) Prince - Like someone already mentioned, it's nice to see big-swinging, patient hitters. Prince will take four walks in a game and be content with that because he knows when he gets his pitch, it's not coming back. Defense still leaves a LOT to be desired, but it's light years ahead of where it was when he first came up.
  3. 1) Loe - the wind-up, delivery, location...just nothing about his pitching makes me feel like it's going to work 2) Gomez - I would much rather just not care about a player (like AT with Wilson) than to be absolutely freaked out every time he's out of the dugout 3) Betancourt - no need to pile on...it is what it is 4) Hart - I know someone mentioned him before, and this has nothing to do with not liking him as a player. This is strictly just that uncomfortable feeling I get from watching him play. It just doesn't fit...he's too tall and lanky to do the things he does. Why do we have a guy leading off that's 6 foot a thousand? It just feels awkward. It reminds me of being a bagger at a grocery store and picking something up that you think is going to be heavy, but you quickly realize that it's much lighter than you anticipated...but it's too late, and you just yanked it up as hard as you can and it almost flies out of your hand, and the customer is looking at you like you're an idiot. That's kinda how it feels to watch Corey Hart play baseball, and it freaks me out that he's so successful doing it. The beard made it a little better, and I don't know why. 5) Kotsay - I'll admit this is partially skewed by having to watch Kotsay come in for Braun when he had tightness the other night and we suddenly didn't have that scary as hell punch of Braun-Fielder for pitchers to deal with. No way, I loved watching Cordero pitch. If we're talking previous decade...Johnny "First Pitch" Estrada, and it's not even close.
  4. Yeah, he was out, but I'm glad the ump with quick with the hook. If I was a minor league ump getting a "call up," I wouldn't take much crap either.
  5. Just came in here to post this. I mean seriously, how much could he have possibly lost on his high 81-82 fastball?
  6. That has been my main thought in this. There has to be more to the story. I realize no one wants any decent prospects to go, but we also have to be careful of overrating our own prospects, and I don't think the Mets would just give him away.
  7. Sorry, I took a quick look at WHIP and WAR, both of which Rodriguez was better. And I agree on Saito...I never mentioned him because we were talking specifically about Ax and K-rod. and pressure on RRR to insert k rod after one or two Ax blown saves. I realize it's unrealistic, but this wouldn't be the problem if relief pitchers didn't have these stupid labels.
  8. Care to tell me when K-Rod is better than John Axford? All of last year? Otherwise, I would say if Axford starts to struggle, or if Axford has pitched three days in a row. I also think there are situations where putting in a LOOGY to close is putting out your best pitcher. It always depends on the situation. Saying there is only one best pitcher all the time and leaving it at that, in my opinion, doesn't give the team the best chance of winning.
  9. Agreed, but that doesn't mean your "best pitcher" will be the same guy every time the lead is 3 runs or less in the 9th.
  10. Ax has been nothing but brilliant, why should he get partially demoted. You can lose a game in the 8th inning, too. The only reason it would be considered anything close to a "demotion" is because someone decided the 9th inning pitcher gets paid more and we were programmed to believe that a 9th inning pitcher needs to have extra pixie dust to be able to finish games.
  11. RRR says both K-Rod and @JohnAxford will close, and both will set-up. I actually kinda like this. Enough of the traditional setup/closer roles that require one guy to have more "clutchiness." Now he can put in the guy that's better rested, or the guy the presents a better matchup, or put one of them in during a tie game and the other can close. There are a million reasons why I don't think it's ever a good idea to limit your best bullpen arm(s) to specific roles.
  12. Bump Woot Off today. Vacuum up right now that will probably take forever...lame. Crap, almost forgot... !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
  13. I would love to hear the justification for an 8. Hell, I would love to hear the justification for a 5. But I also don't really see this as a knock on Prince. Like Tbadder said, can't blame him for being God's definition of a DH. I think he works hard at it and has improved a lot since he first came into the league (when he was easily a 1), but he just doesn't have the physical makeup to be a good defensive player. In my mind, he went from a 1 to a 3 since his rookie year, and that's probably his ceiling on defense...but I'll take that + his bat any day.
  14. Going through the different Stargate series'. I was a late-blooming geek.
  15. Absolutely. Any time I think of doing anything that might put me in the public spotlight, I always think about what kind of pictures are out there of me and what stories some bozo friend might tell on the news. We've all done stupid stuff.
  16. I have no knowledge of Macs, but I had this happen around Christmas last year on my PC (I believe there's a thread at lambeauleap about it). I was trying to find a funny Christmas picture, clicked on an image and some "antivirus" started "scanning" my computer and said it found like 30 trojans. I didn't even click on it, but it did all kinds of fun stuff to my computer anyway, so you may want to check around a bit to make sure. For me, it disabled my regular antivirus and then disabled my task manager so my regular antivirus couldn't do anything to stop it and I couldn't get in to task manager to kill the process. I finally tricked my way into task manager, but the damage took a little while to clean up and I'm still not sure I got it all. Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (MBAM) is excellent. This is what Casey recommended to me back then, and it worked really well after I killed the process to clean everything up. I keep it on my computer now and just use it every few weeks or so to catch anything that my regular antivirus missed. As for free antivirus, you can also check with your internet provider and see if they offer a free one. I've had Time Warner and At&t and both had free antivirus that came with it.
  17. I got Dish Network out a few months ago to upgrade all of my equipment to HD, but unfortunately there was an obstruction preventing me from being able to get local channels in HD. So now I can watch HD Brewers most of the time, but won't be able to watch HD Packers. I'm wondering if it's possible to set up an antenna to receive the local channels in HD (and save myself the $6 charge from Dish for local channels) and still have the Dish for the rest of the package. Anyone have experience with local HD antennas and, if so, any recommendations?
  18. I played a few gigs at a place called Husby's in Sister Bay years ago. Not sure if it's still there, but they have some decent food and a nice atmosphere. If there's live music, that place gets packed and it's a lot of fun.
  19. I understand defining it to an extent, but if you're up by a run and have two lefties coming up in the 9th, I see no reason why Axford gets the call just because he's "the closer." Same with the 8th and the "setup man." (sorry, bit of leftover Yost rage...I haven't been around here in awhile) Defined roles are fine as long as everyone understands that those roles can be tweaked at any time for the betterment of the team and depending on the situation. Then it requires a manager with the guts to make an intelligent bullpen decision rather than the "accepted" one. And the "save" statistic just needs to go away...far, far away.
  20. These will be Braun's age 31-36 seasons. Not really years I would want to pay much for. I realize the Brewers aren't used to paying for players at that age unless they're role players, but for a big-time hitter like Braun, I don't see any reason to think his production will have some huge drop-off into his mid-30s.
  21. I'm generally concerned with the concept of one relief pitcher in a bullpen that is blessed with magical powers that grant him and only him the power to pitch in specific situations. I'm equally concerned that his magical powers are only to be used when it will result in a "save" that inexplicably makes his value skyrocket.
  22. Snow is coming down hard in Oshkosh right now. I'm seeing differing reports of 5-8 inches or 6-10 inches by tomorrow. I've already broken two shovels this past winter...Mother Nature is pushing it with this one, so she can fix it her damn self.
  23. It was on the south side of Neenah. I'm just off the no longer existing Breezewood Ln exit. We were basically just south of where most of the damage happened in Neenah. Pitch, it seemed like there was a low rumble throughout. It was almost hard to pick out because at some point it just becomes a drone. It started to pick up a bit later when the streaks started.
  24. At the 9:55 mark, I was almost certain the world was about to end.
  25. Yup, I have friends in Oshkosh that saw baseball-sized hail. I'm in Neenah, just got up from the basement to start uploading the strobe lightning that came before the rain/wind started. I'll post the video when it finishes uploading to youtube.
