Las Vegas (Blue Jays) 10 Nashville 3 Box Score Ugly game for Wily Peralta. 6 IP 7 H 5 R 5 ER 3 BB 3 K 1 WP 8:3 GO:FO 84 pitches, 46 strikes. Just looking through Gameday, it appeared that Wily might have just been that bad combination of slightly off (too many hits) and somewhat unlucky (2-strike hits). I expect him to bounce back in a big way going into June. The 0.00 twins pitched next but one was destroyed. Johnnie Lowe's impressive pitching streak came to an end as he got shelled for 5 runs in just 1 IP. Jim Henderson did extend his scoreless streak. Caleb Gindl lives! 3-4 3B BB and spark plug hit in the top of the 9th to start the failed comeback. Brooks Conrad (3-5 2B) is much to good for this league, but the Sounds need it and there is no prospect chomping to get PT, so whatever. The Sounds actually out-hit Las Vegas but they still fell seven runs short. Sean Halton does not seem to be playing everyday. I will watch that closer. Game Log Plenty of long Nashville innings ending in bupkis. Gameday

Manatees roll over Stone Crabs, 9-1 05/22/2012 11:05 PM ET By Kirsten Karbach PORT CHARLOTTE - Braulio Lara struggled in his third straight start and the Charlotte offense could not solve Taylor Jungmann in a 9-1 loss on Tuesday night at Charlotte Sports Park. A solo homerun off the bat of Phil Wunderlich in the second was all the Stone Crabs could manage against Jungmann as the Brevard County Manatees evened up the series at one game apiece. Ranked by Baseball America as the number two prospect in the Milwaukee Brewers organization, Jungmann (3-3) held the Stone Crabs to just one run on six hits in 7-2/3 innings of work, striking out eight Charlotte batters. The Manatees were quick to get to Lara (3-3), plating three runs in the first. Nick Shaw led off the ballgame with a double to right-center, and one out later Cody Hawn lined a single over the head of Derek Dietrich at short to get Brevard County on the board. Shawn Zarraga followed with a double, and with runners on second and third Mike Walker hit a high fly ball that hovered around the line in left. The ball caromed off the glove of left fielder Cody Rogers and fell in fair, scoring two more as the Manatees took a 3-0 lead. Walker was credited with a sacrifice fly, while Rogers was charged with an error allowing the second run to score. In the bottom of the second Wunderlich drove a deep liner over the wall in right for his fourth home run of the season, cutting the deficit to 3-1. That score held until the sixth. Mike Walker singled to start the frame, and Reggie Keen ripped a two-run shot over the wall in left to increase the Manatees lead to 5-1. That ended the evening for the Stone Crabs starter, who was lifted in favor of Eliazer Suero. Lara allowed five runs - four earned - on eight hits in five plus innings of work in suffering his third consecutive loss. Brevard County tacked on another in the seventh and three more in the eighth off Suero. Walker drove in a pair with a bases loaded single up the middle, and Keen followed with a double to right-center that extended the Manatees lead to 9-1. Keen finished the evening with a 3-for-4 performance, including a homer and two doubles, while driving in four. The series continues at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday when Charlotte will host Brevard County for game three of the four game set. Reigning FSL Pitcher of the Week C.J. Riefenhauser will get the ball for Charlotte and will be opposed by Brandon Williamson. Wednesday will also be German Heritage Night at Charlotte Sports Park.

Manatees stomp Stone Crabs, 9-1 05/22/2012 10:03 PM ET By Frank Longobardo / Brevard County Manatees PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees' offense continued to stay hot and Taylor Jungmann earned his first win in his last seven starts as the 'Tees topped the Charlotte Stone Crabs 9-1 on Tuesday night at Charlotte Sports Park. The Manatees (18-26) gave Jungmann run support before he even took the hill as Brevard scored three runs in the first inning. Nick Shaw led the game off with his 11th double of the season and was driven in two batters later by a Cody Hawn RBI single. Shawn Zarraga then doubled to put runners on second and third with one out. Then Mike Walker hit a ball out to left that was misplayed by Cody Rogers which allowed Hawn and Zarraga to score and Walker to reach second. Charlotte (22-22) plated their only run off Jungmann and Brevard County in the second as Philip Wunderlich hit a one-out, solo homer to right. Jungmann (3-3, 2.90) shut the Stone Crabs down the rest of the way as he allowed just the one run in 7 2/3 innings. He scattered six hits, walked two and struck out a career-high eight. Eric Arnett relieved Jungmann in the eighth was perfect in 1 1/3 innings of work with two strikeouts. It stayed a 3-1 game until the sixth when Reggie Keen hit a two-run homer to give the 'Tees a 5-1 lead. Keen recorded another RBI in the seventh as he drove in Hawn with a sacrifice fly to center. Brevard put the game out of reach in the eighth as Walker had a two-out, two-RBI single and then Keen hit a ground-rule double to plate Zarraga. Zarraga and Keen had three hits each, while Walker and Franklin Romero Jr. each recorded two hits. Keen also drove in four with Walker driving in three. Brevard pounded out 13 hits as the 'Tees are hitting .315 and have scored 38 runs in their last four games. The Manatees will look to continue their torrid hitting in the third game of their four-game set with the Stone Crabs on Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. Jimmy Nelson (2-4, 2.40) will take the mound for Brevard as he is look for his first win since April 16. In his last start this past Friday against Fort Myers, Nelson threw a complete game but was saddled with the tough-luck loss in a 2-1 game. If Brevard County wants their bats to stay hot, they will have to do it against the reigning Florida State League Pitcher of the Week. Charlotte will send C.J. Riefenhauser (6-0, 0.70) to the mound. Riefenhauser has not allowed an earned run in his last 26 innings of work. Box Score Taylor Jungmann answered the bell as he had his most dominant display to date. 7.2 IP 6 H 1 R 1 ER 2 BB 8 K 1 HR 1 WP 7:3 GO:FO. That is the kind of line that prospect predators notice. It is also the kind of line that will put Jungmann in the running for 'Game Score of the Day' over at Baseball America. Eric Arnett's season line: 12 IP 10 H 7 R 3 ER 0 HR 5 BB 12 K 1.44 GO:FO .233 BAA 2.25 ERA The hitters were pretty much covered in the BC game story. It is so refreshing for a pitcher to have this kind of run support. Let loose Sea Cows! 13 hits, 4 BB's and a HBP for the hitters which provided plenty of chances for runs. Every regular had a hit except Miguel Velazquez, who was the recipient of the wayward pitch, meaning every hitter reached base at least once. Clean sheet for the D. Game Log Three perfect innings for Jungmann. Kick start. Brevard County Top of the 1st Nick Shaw doubles (11) on a fly ball to center fielder Mikie Mahtook. Shea Vucinich lines out to shortstop Derek Dietrich. Cody Hawn singles on a line drive to center fielder Mikie Mahtook. Nick Shaw scores. Shawn Zarraga doubles (6) on a fly ball to right fielder Brett Nommensen. Cody Hawn to 3rd. Michael Walker hits a sacrifice fly. Fielding error by left fielder Cody Rogers. Cody Hawn scores. Shawn Zarraga scores. Michael Walker to 2nd. Reggie Keen grounds out, third baseman Robby Price to first baseman Philip Wunderlich. Michael Walker to 3rd. Miguel Velazquez grounds out, second baseman Hector Guevara to first baseman Philip Wunderlich.

Attention Aspiring Link Reporters: I am heading back up north this upcoming weekend. I could really use some help filing Link Reports for Brevard County and Nashville on Friday, Saturday and Sunday night. It is really quite fun and a great platform to express your thoughts on some of the youngsters. Last time up there (Iron Mountain, MI) we discovered my wife, via Verizon, gets some 3G service. The problem is that I would be writing with her iPhone, making the process a bit more tedious. So if there is anyone who could help me out some of those nights, please let me know. Thanks!

Jungmann is blaming it on "pitching to contact".

Las Vegas (Blue Jays) 10 Nashville 8 Box Score In a bit of a back and forth game, the Sounds ended up falling short again. In a bit of good news, 2-hitter Caleb Gindl (2-2 3 BB) had one of those games that gives you hope. Logan Schafer (2-5 2B) continues to be solid. Brooks Conrad is the definition of AAAA as he homers promptly upon his return to AAA. Martin Maldonado (2-4 2B HR) went yard form the 9-hole. Mark Rogers started, and although he was initially effective (2 IP 0 R), his final line ended up pretty ugly. 5 IP 10 H 6 R 6 ER 3 BB 3 K 1 HR 4:4 GO:FO. The only Sounds pitcher to not allow a run was Rob Wooten and he allowed a hit and 2 BB in his lone inning. Las Vegas is the AAA affiliate of the Blue Jays. There are many legit major league caliber bats in their lineup. Las Vegas scored in 6 of 8 innings tonight. This will be a stiff challenge for the Sounds pitchers. Game Log Nashville's 5-spot. Nashville Top of the 5th Martin Maldonado doubles (6) on a fly ball to center fielder Anthony Gose. Logan Schafer doubles (11) on a line drive to center fielder Anthony Gose. Martin Maldonado scores. Brevard drops 11-7 slugfest to Charlotte 05/21/2012 10:01 PM ET By Frank Longobardo / Brevard County Manatees PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees opened up their seven-game road trip with an 11-7 loss on Monday night to the Charlotte Stone Crabs at Charlotte Sports Park. The 'Tees (17-26) fell into a big hole early as starter Brooks Hall (0-2, 5.40) allowed eight runs (seven earned) in just 1 1/3 innings of work. He gave up five hits - three of them homers - while walking four and striking out two. Down 8-0 after two innings, the Manatees slowly started cutting the deficit in the fourth as Mike Walker drove in two with a two-out double to make it an 8-2 game. Brevard made it an 8-4 game in the sixth as both Nick Shaw and Shawn Zarraga hit solo homers in the inning. Eric Marzec did a good job keeping the Stone Crabs (22-21) off the board after Hall's early departure, as he threw 3 2/3 scoreless innings and allowed just one hit. After the Stone Crabs scored once in the bottom of the sixth, Brevard County made it a 9-7 game with a three-run seventh. Shea Vucinich led the inning off with a triple and was brought home two batters later on a ground out by Scott Krieger. Franklin Romero Jr. then singled and Shaw walked to put two on with two outs. T.J. Mittelstaedt then tripled down the right field line to clear the bases and make it just a two run game. The rally ended with Cody Hawn striking out to end the seventh. Charlotte would pull away with the game in the bottom of the eighth as they scored two insurance runs as Derek Dietrich hit a ground-rule double off of Casey Medlen with the runs being charged to the line of Greg Holle. Though it was too little, too late, Brevard continued their recent clutch hitting as six of their seven RBI came with two outs. Also of the eight hits the Manatees had on Monday night, six of them went for extra bases. Mittelstaedt and Walker both drove in two runs each, while Zarraga was the only Manatee with a multi-hit night as he had two hits. The Manatees didn't help their cause in the field though as they committed four errors, including two by Vucinich. Brevard County will look to rebound on Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. against Charlotte in the second game of their four-game set. 2011 first round draft pick Taylor Jungmann (2-3, 3.15) will take the ball for the 'Tees as he is still looking for his first win since April 10. In four road starts this season, Jungmann is 1-2 with a 3.91 ERA. Braulio Lara (3-2, 6.00) will toe the rubber for the Stone Crabs. In three starts so far in May, Lara is 1-2 with a 10.80 ERA. Box Score 21 year old pitcher Brooks Hall blew his season line all to heck as he was charged with 8 runs (7 earned) while recording just four outs. Hall was homer prone giving up three. BC actually made it 9-7 at one point but Greg Holle could not hold it close giving up two big runs in the 8th. Perhaps the Manatees are starting to awaken on offense. They scored 7 runs on just 8 hits and 2 walks. Shawn Zarraga (2-4 2B HR) was the only multi-hit man. Nick Shaw slugged his first homer. Mike Walker hit a double and Shea Vucinich hit a triple. T.J. Mittelstaedt also tripled but he struck out three times. This Charlotte squad boasts some impressive young hitters and they lived up to the billing tonight. SS Derek Dietrich, a 2010 2nd rounder, hit 22 homers in the Midwest League as a 21 year old. Then there is OF Mikie Mahtook, a 2011 1st rounder, who is starting his full season career in the FSL, much like Bradley and Jungmann. There were many who thought the Brewers would select Mahtook with the 15th pick last season. Both Dietrich and Mahtook hit 3-run bombs off of Brooks Hall tonight. Game Log The hope is that this is the worst line for Brooks this season. Charlotte Bottom of the 1st Brett Nommensen walks. With Brandon Allen batting, throwing error by Brooks Hall on the pickoff attempt, Brett Nommensen to 2nd. Brandon Allen walks. Mikie Mahtook homers (1) on a fly ball to right field. With Hector Guevara batting, Derek Dietrich steals (2) 3rd base, Derek Dietrich scores. Throwing error by catcher Shawn Zarraga. Hector Guevara walks. Alejandro Torres grounds into a force out, shortstop Nick Shaw to second baseman Shea Vucinich. Hector Guevara out at 2nd. Pitching Prospect Velocity Reports (Updated for 2012)
Tedaldtada replied to Tedaldtada's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
Just found this two week old bit on Jimmy Nelson from Kevin Goldstein (5/9/2012): "Jimmy Nelson, RHP, Milwaukee Brewers A second-round pick in 2010 out of Alabama, Nelson was seen as a wide body who could throw strikes and keep the ball on the ground coming out of college. Despite a 4.38 ERA during his full-season debut at low Class A Wisconsin last year, scouts noted increased velocity toward the end of the season, and with it came more strikeouts. That trend has continued in 2012, as the 6-foot-6, 250-pound Nelson has been touching 98 mph with high Class A Brevard County while putting up a 2.45 ERA with 45 strikeouts in 40 1/3 innings. With a plus slider and fringe-average change, he looks like a future No. 3 starter, and he has outpitched his two much more hyped rotation mates, 2011 first-round picks Taylor Jungmann and Jed Bradley." -
Nashville 2 Tucson (Padres) 1 Box Score Caleb Gindl was benched again, but he did PH. I do not blame the decision makers. Gindl has been awful. Logan Schafer was back in the lead off spot. The real story here was Seth McClung. 7 IP 5 H 0 R 4 BB 4 K 1 WP 6:6 GO:FO. Seth has been better lately. Mike McClendon just about coughed it up in the bottom of the 9th. This was a game full of 1-2-3 innings. The box says it took almost 3 hours to play. I do not know how that is possible by looking at the game log. Perhaps a plethora of full counts? Game Log Pretty bare-bones, but dive in. Gameday

'Tees pound Miracle to earn series win 05/20/2012 9:20 PM ET By Frank Longobardo / Brevard County Manatees http://www.milb.com/images/2012/05/20/xniqHLkN.jpg Manatees starting pitcher Andy Moye won his first start with Brevard County on Sunday, after recently being called up from Class-A Wisconsin. Moye allowed two runs - one earned - in five innings of work as the 'Tees routed the Fort Myers Miracle 13-2. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) VIERA, Fla. - A nine-run sixth inning helped the Brevard County Manatees score a season-high in runs as the 'Tees clobbered the Fort Myers Miracle 13-2 on Sunday evening at Space Coast Stadium. Highlighting that nine run inning were three-run homers by both T.J. Mittelstaedt and Shea Vucinich. Vucinich was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate as he drove in three, scored three times and drew a walk. He is hitting .370 (17-for-46) in the month of May to raise his season batting average 77 points, after hitting just .178 in April. Cody Hawn, Mike Walker, Scott Krieger and Franklin Romero Jr. all added two hits each as Brevard County (17-25) also reached a season-high in hits with 14. Krieger hit the other Brevard County homer, which was a two-run shot in the second inning. He also had a double and drove in a total of four runs. All these runs were plenty in support of Manatees starting pitcher Andy Moye, who earned a victory in his first start at Brevard County. Moye went five innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits. He walked one and struck out four as he continued his winning ways from Class-A Wisconsin. Ten of Brevard's 12 RBI on Sunday came with two outs, including the homers by Mittelstaedt and Vucinich in the sixth. The Manatees were 7-for-13 with runners in scoring position and seven of the Manatees' 14 hits went for extra bases. The victory gave Brevard County the series win over Fort Myers (16-27) as the Manatees took three of four from the Miracle. Brevard's last series win came against Tampa on April 25-27. The 'Tees will now hit the road for a seven-game road trip, which will begin on Monday night at 6:30 p.m. with the first game of a four-game set against the Charlotte Stone Crabs. The Stone Crabs (21-21) have won seven of their last ten games and are in third place in the Florida State League South Division. Brooks Hall (0-1, 2.41) will toe the rubber for Brevard to open the road trip. Hall struck out three in five innings of work in his last start against Daytona this past Wednesday. The Stone Crabs will send Albert Suarez (2-2, 2.24) to the bump. Baseball America ranked Suarez as Tampa Bay's 17th best prospect heading into this season. Box Score Somewhere, in a dark, padded room, Jimmy Nelson, Taylor Jungmann and Brooks Hall are mumbling craziness while fighting over a teddy bear. It is understandable. After all, Andy Moye comes to BC and is presented with 13 runs from an offense that as a whole is way under a .600 OPS. "Why him (Moye)! I buy Mittelstaedt a candy bar after every game!", Nelson proclaims suddenly. That was the only discernible statement made by any of the three pitchers in the room. The rest was just crazy mumbling. [/humor] Andy Moye pitched great on three days rest. 5 IP 3 H 2 R 1 ER 1 BB 4 K 5:4 GO:FO. The minor league production being harvested from the 2011 draft class is pretty encouraging. Three relievers combined for 4 scoreless innings. Shea Vucinich (3-3 2B HR BB) made some kind of adjustment in May. He is really killing it (see gamestory). Scott Kreiger (2-4 2B HR) is fighting for .200. Corner cousins (Hawn actually DH'ed tonight) Mike Walker (2-4 2B) and Cody Hawn (2-5 2B) did some damage. Tonight's 3B T.J. Mittelstaedt hit a bomb, his 4th on the year. Game Log A ton of 2-out damage. Brevard County Bottom of the 6th Michael Walker singles on a ground ball to center fielder Angel Morales. Shea Vucinich singles on a ground ball to center fielder Angel Morales. Michael Walker to 2nd. Miguel Velazquez strikes out swinging. Scott Krieger doubles (3) on a line drive to center fielder Angel Morales. Michael Walker scores. Shea Vucinich scores. Franklin Romero Jr. singles on a fly ball to right fielder Oswaldo Arcia. Nick Shaw strikes out swinging. With T. J. Mittelstaedt batting, wild pitch by Cole Nelson, Scott Krieger to 3rd. Franklin Romero Jr. to 2nd. T. J. Tuscon (Padres) 6 Nashville 2 Box Score Mike Fiers got smacked around a bit. He had his ERA back under 4.00 before this game but now it sits at 4.13. Would you trade Mike Fiers for Jason Bartlett + cash? You have to admit that Fiers is the kind of guy that succeed in SD. Jim Henderson gave up a run but it was unearned. He walked into an absolute mess. Tucson Bottom of the 6th Jonathan Roof walks. Jorge Reyes out on a sacrifice bunt to first baseman Sean Halton. Jonathan Roof to 2nd. Pitcher Change: Jim Henderson replaces Victor Garate, batting 6th. Defensive Substitution: Erick Almonte replaces pitcher Victor Garate, batting 9th, playing third base. Daniel Robertson singles on a ground ball to shortstop Hainley Statia, deflected by pitcher Jim Henderson. Jonathan Roof to 3rd. With Logan Forsythe batting, passed ball by Martin Maldonado, Jonathan Roof scores. Daniel Robertson to 2nd. Logan Forsythe walks. With Jedd Gyorko batting, Daniel Robertson steals (6) 3rd base. Logan Forsythe steals (1) 2nd base. Jedd Gyorko strikes out swinging. Matt Clark strikes out swinging. Henderson escaped a crueler fate by K'ing the 3 and 4 hitters. Robert Wooten managed his first clean inning on his third try. Number 3 hitter Logan Schafer hit his 5th home run of the year. I have a feeling his average is down a bit because he is trying to add more power to his game. His SLG is 100 points higher than his OBP. Logan just needs a hot week or two and his line will be very impressive. Some time out west should help. Lead off hitter Caleb Gindl is a mess right now. Sean Halton went 2-3 with a 2B. Game Log Ruh-roh. We have had some frustrated managers and coaches this season. Tucson Bottom of the 5th Jonathan Roof singles on a line drive to right fielder Corey Patterson. Brevard's bats wake up in 7-2 win 05/19/2012 10:04 PM ET By Frank Longobardo / Brevard County Manatees http://www.milb.com/images/2012/05/19/VzVMYJ5e.jpg Brevard County starting pitcher Brandon Williamson earned his first win as a Manatee in a 7-2 win over Fort Myers on Saturday night. Williamson struck out five in five innings of work. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) VIERA, Fla. - Before the Saturday night's post-game fireworks could wake up Viera, the Manatees' bats woke up first to the tune of seven runs and 11 hits as the 'Tees topped the Fort Myers Miracle 7-2 at Space Coast Stadium. Shawn Zarraga led the way at the plate by going 3-for-4 with three RBI. Both Cody Hawn (No) and T.J. Mittelstaedt also had two hits each, while Miguel Velazquez homered for the second straight game. The Manatees (16-25) scored early as they plated two runs in the first inning when Hawn doubled home Shaw - who led the inning off with a double - and then Zarraga singled to plate Hawn. Brevard County busted the game wide open in the third as Zarraga drove in Mittelstaedt with a RBI single and then three batters later, Velazquez went deep to center on the first pitch he saw for a three-run homer to make it a 6-0 lead for the 'Tees. Zarraga added his third RBI single of the night in the fourth inning as he drove in Mittelstaedt with two outs. Six of the seven runs that Brevard County drove in were with two outs. The Manatees came into the game hitting .206 with runners in scoring position, but against the Miracle (16-26) on Saturday they went 7-for-14 with runners in scoring position. Seven runs in the first four innings was plenty of run support for Manatees starting pitcher Brandon Williamson who allowed just one run in five innings of work. He scattered five hits and walked one, while striking out five and earning his first win with Brevard County. Brevard County will go for their first series win since April 25-27 in the final game of the four-game set with the Miracle on Sunday at 5:05 p.m. Andy Moye, who was just called up from Class-A Wisconsin, will get his first start with the Manatees and he will be doing so on three days rest. In eight appearances with the Timber Rattlers in 2012, Moye was 3-0 with a 1.45 ERA. The Miracle will counter with Jhon Garcia (0-4, 3.77), who has given up at least five runs in each of his last three starts. Box Score Starter Brandon Williamson was very good tonight. 5 IP 5 H 1 R 0 ER 0 BB 5 K 4:4 GO:FO. Williamson is an '89'er so he still has age on his side somewhat. He has been a solid pitcher across three levels this season. After Brian Garman pitched two, old pal Eric Arnett threw two very impressive innings (0 H 1 BB 2 K). Shea Vucinich was hit twice by pitches, along with his hit. He is one of the few BC hitters with a positive trending batting average. Up to .233 now after being at .200 and below much of April. SS Nick Shaw (2-5 2B) was productive from the lead-off spot. Miguel Velazquez continues to heat up after a 3-run homer today. Miguel did commit an error. The multi-hit stars (Zarraga, Mittelstaedt and Hawn ) besides Shaw were all covered in the game story. Game Log Homers can make big innings look short. Brevard County Bottom of the 3rd T. J. I would be in favor of starting Toledo if it meant no more starts for McClung, Baker, etc. My over aggressive tendencies would have Moye and Gagnon in A+. Nelson in AA with Burgos. Thorny and Anundson in AAA. Then get Cravy and Toledo some starts.

Well, that ended up being a pretty fun game. Congrats to hero Andy Gonzalez for his 2-out 2-run 8th inning hit. Seems to me Tucson left Anthony Reyes out there a bit too long. The Sounds were smart to score in the 8th because high end closer prospect Brad Boxberger (Mat Latos deal) awaited in the 9th. Former Red, Yasmani Grandl (also the Latos trade), had three hits for Tucson. This Padres AAA club is stacked with big league caliber players. No Sound had multiple hits but Eric Farris did steal multiple bases, up to 12 now. Farris was also caught stealing and picked off second, so yeah. Two of the Sounds' runs were unearned with Tucson committing four errors in the game. Logan Schafer is back and he had an RBI hit in 5 trips. Caleb Gindl (1-4) batted in the bottom 3rd. The winning rally. Nashville Top of the 8th Logan Schafer grounds out, third baseman Logan Forsythe to first baseman Matt Clark. Eric Farris singles on a line drive to center fielder Blake Tekotte, deflected by second baseman Jedd Gyorko. Hainley Statia flies out to center fielder Blake Tekotte. With Erick Almonte batting, Eric Farris steals (12) 2nd base, . Eric Farris advances to 3rd, on throwing error by catcher Yasmani Grandal. Erick Almonte walks. Jordan Brown walks. Erick Almonte to 2nd. Pitcher Change: Erik Hamren replaces Anthony Reyes, batting 9th. Andy Gonzalez singles on a ground ball to center fielder Blake Tekotte. Eric Farris scores. Erick Almonte scores. Jordan Brown to 3rd. Caleb Gindl pops out to catcher Yasmani Grandal in foul territory.

I will post the full recap in the morning. Nashville down 1 heading into the 8th. Box Score Returning Brewer and Sound Claudio Vargas made the start. He was uninspiring. He did K 4 in just 2 IP. Equally unimpressive major league vet Kip Wells took the hill for Tucson. What, is this a mid-aughts Pirates-Brewers game? Both pitchers were very highly thought of at one point in time. Brevard edged 2-1 as Nelson goes the distance 05/18/2012 10:46 PM ET By Frank Longobardo / Brevard County Manatees http://www.milb.com/images/2012/05/18/M49SLLDn.jpg Manatees starting pitcher Jimmy Nelson threw a complete game as he allowed two runs on six hits, while striking out five. Nelson was the hard-luck loser though as Brevard County fell 2-1 to the Fort Myers Miracle on Friday night at Space Coast Stadium. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) VIERA, Fla. - Brevard County Manatees starting pitcher Jimmy Nelson threw a complete game and allowed just two runs, but it was not enough as 'Tees were defeated by the Fort Myers Miracle 2-1 on Friday night at Space Coast Stadium. The 2010 second round pick threw 107 pitches in nine innings as he scattered six hits while walking one and striking out five. It was Nelson's first complete game as a professional and his longest outing since June 30, 2011 when he went eight innings for Class-A Wisconsin against the Cedar Rapid Kernels. Nelson (2-4, 2.40) has now lost in three consecutive starts. The only two runs that Nelson allowed to the Miracle were in the top of the sixth inning. After hitting Jairo Perez with a pitch with one out, Nelson gave up a first pitch home run to Oswaldo Arcia as Fort Myers took a 2-1 lead. That homer by Arcia erased the lead that the 'Tees took in the bottom of the second with a round-tripper of their own. Miguel Velazquez led off the inning by taking the 0-1 pitch from Pat Dean and depositing it over the left field fence for his second home run of the season. Brevard County (15-25) had a couple of chances late in the game to either tie it or take the lead. In the eighth, Adam Weisenburger led off the inning with a double. Two batters later with two outs, Reggie Keen singled to right and Weisenburger tried to score from second but was thrown out at home plate. With their last chance in the ninth, T.J. Mittelstaedt led inning off with a single and reached second on a fielding error to put the tying run in scoring position with no outs. Cody Hawn then grounded out to move Mittelstaedt to third as the tying run was now 90 feet away from scoring. Velazquez came up to the plate looking to drive in his second run of the game but he popped out to first in foul territory on a nice catch by Fort Myers (16-25) first baseman Michael Gonzales against the railing of the 'Tees dugout. It was then left up to Mike Walker, who had the game-winning hit last night, but he would strike out to end the game and Brevard County's rally was thwarted. Velazquez, Reggie Keen and Shea Vucinich all had two hits each for the 'Tees on Friday night. Brevard County will look to get back on track in game three of their four-game set with Fort Myers on Saturday night at 6:35 p.m. Brandon Williamson (0-2, 4.76) will get the start for the Manatees as he is still looking for his first with in a Brevard uniform. Williamson has not pitched since May 10. The Miracle will send Miguel Munoz (1-1, 3.18) to the bump.

Oswaldo Arcia 2 Brevard County 1 Box Score The older brother of our Orlando Arcia was the story as he accounted for all of the damage off of Jimmy J Nelson tonight. Besides that mistake pitch, Jimmy was excellent going the full distance. 9 IP 6 H 2 R 2 ER 1 BB 5 K 1 HR 1 HBP 10:3 GO:FO. Check out Jimmy's game log this season. Very consistent, but tonight might have been his best. Jimmy is clearly the best pitcher in this rotation right now. Perhaps Brooks Hall will continue to challenge him. Miguel Velezquez hit a home run, his second on the year. We were all expecting more of him I think. In 2010, his last professional season, he put up a mid-700's OPS with 15 homers and 15 steals. Those numbers are pretty much unthinkable for Miguel right now. Levi Michael, the Twins 1st rounder from 2011, had a big day. The numbers are a little low for him, but I have heard some decent things about him in the Twitter-verse. There was a small contingent clamoring for Michael on draft day for the Brewers pick. Game Log Four perfect innings tonight for Nelson folded into tonight's game log.

13-0 Nashville got crushed by Tucson Box Score My cheeks are bloodstained after reading through this debacle. Caleb Gindl is maybe the most disappointing hitting prospect in the system right now. Wily Peralta went 1-1 at the plate. After tonight's pitching line, he may just want to consider a position switch considering he is hitting a robust .333 on the year. Every pitcher gave up too many runs compared to how many outs they recorded. Game Log Fresh from AA, heeerrreeess Gyorko. Jedd factoring into both of Wily's bad innings. Tucson Bottom of the 3rd Blake Tekotte singles on a ground ball to center fielder Corey Patterson. Logan Forsythe triples (1) on a line drive to right fielder Caleb Gindl. Blake Tekotte scores. Jedd Gyorko walks. Matt Clark singles on a line drive to left fielder Jordan Brown. Logan Forsythe scores. Jedd Gyorko to 2nd. Yasmani Grandal flies out to right fielder Caleb Gindl. Sawyer Carroll flies out to center fielder Corey Patterson. Jedd Gyorko to 3rd. Daniel Robertson doubles (9) on a line drive to left fielder Jordan Brown. Jedd Gyorko scores. Matt Clark to 3rd. Beamer Weems doubles (4) on a ground ball to left fielder Jordan Brown. Matt Clark scores. Daniel Robertson scores. Matt Palmer grounds out, shortstop Hainley Statia to first baseman Sean Halton. Tucson Bottom of the 4th Blake Tekotte walks. Logan Forsythe homers (1) on a fly ball to right center field. Blake Tekotte scores. 'Tees snap six-game skid with walk-off win 05/17/2012 10:22 PM ET By Frank Longobardo / Brevard County Manatees http://www.milb.com/images/2012/05/17/mkTLuc7D.jpg Taylor Jungmann is winless since April 10. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) VIERA, Fla. - Mike Walker's walk-off single in the bottom of the tenth inning gave the Brevard County Manatees a 5-4 win over the Fort Myers Miracle on Thursday night at Space Coast Stadium. The win snaps Brevard County's six-game losing streak. 'Tees starting pitcher Taylor Jungmann (2-3, 3.15) threw six innings and allowed four runs - all earned and all in the fifth inning - on eight hits. He allowed one walk and struck out two batters. Despite Brevard's victory, Jungmann is still winless in his last seven starts. Brevard County (15-24) jumped out to a 3-0 lead early thanks to a big second inning. Franklin Romero Jr. and Nick Shaw both had two-out, run-scoring hits. Romero Jr. drove in Walker with a single to center and Shaw then doubled to bring home both Adam Weisenburger and Romero Jr. Fort Myers (15-25) though would take a 4-3 lead with their big inning in the fifth. Jungmann allowed five hits in the inning, including three consecutive to start the frame. The Manatees wasted a big opportunity to answer back and get some runs on the board in the bottom of the fifth as the 'Tees left the bases loaded. Brevard was able to tie the game at 4-4 in the sixth as Romero Jr. came up big again with a one-out single to center that scored Shea Vucinich. Romero Jr. was 3-for-4 on the night with two RBI and a run scored. After Jungmann exited the game, Brevard County's bullpen shut down the Miracle as Thomas Keeling (one inning), Casey Medlen (two innings) and Eric Marzec (one inning) held Fort Myers scoreless while fanning five. Medlen recorded four of the five strikouts. In the bottom of the tenth, T.J. Mittelstaedt and Cody Hawn led off the inning with back-to-back singles to put two on with no outs. Shawn Zarraga then tried to move the runners over with a sacrifice bunt but he was hit by the pitch. With the bases now loaded, Mike Walker stepped to the plate and deposited a single to shallow left field to give the Manatees their first extra-innings win of the 2012 season. The Manatees racked up 11 hits on the night, which was the first time since April 5 that Brevard had ten or more hits at home. Along with Romero Jr., both Walker and Weisenburger had multi-hit nights with two hits each. The Manatees will try and make it two in a row as they take on the Miracle again on Friday night at 6:35 p.m. for the second game of a four-game set. Jimmy Nelson (2-3, 2.47) will take the mound for the 'Tees as he is looking for his first win since April 16. Nelson has a 0.61 ERA at Space Coast Stadium so far in 2012. Fort Myers will counter with southpaw Pat Dean (2-2, 3.23). Dean has allowed just one earned run in each of his last three starts. Box Score 10th inning walk off in Brevard despite Orlando Arcia's brother, Oswaldo, racking up 3 hits! Loving the bloodlines working here as older bro is raking in the FSL. Taylor Jungmann got the start and did not fare all that well, although all of the damage came in one inning. 6 IP 8 H 4 R 4 ER 1 BB 2 K 11:2 GO:FO. Three relievers held it scoreless the rest of the way highlighted by Casey Medlen's 2 IP 0 R 4 K performance. Mike Walker was the hero with a bases loaded, no-out, bloop single. There is no hitter on this roster that profiles as a starter at the MLB level. Game Log Jungmann's struggles. Fort Myers Top of the 5th Daniel Ortiz doubles (1) on a line drive to left fielder T. J. Mittelstaedt. Anderson Hidalgo singles on a ground ball to left fielder T. J. Mittelstaedt. Daniel Ortiz to 3rd. Michael Gonzales singles on a ground ball to right fielder Franklin Romero Jr. Daniel Ortiz scores. Anderson Hidalgo to 3rd. Angel Morales lines out to shortstop Nick Shaw. Andy Leer singles on a line drive to left fielder T. J. Mittelstaedt. Anderson Hidalgo scores. Michael Gonzales to 2nd. Levi Michael strikes out swinging. Oswaldo Arcia doubles (9) on a line drive to left fielder T. J. Mittelstaedt. Michael Gonzales scores. Andy Leer scores. Daniel Rohlfing grounds out, catcher Adam Weisenburger to first baseman Cody Hawn.

Brevard falls in extras to Daytona 05/16/2012 10:49 PM ET By Frank Longobardo / Brevard County Manatees VIERA, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees fell 6-2 in eight innings to the Daytona Cubs on Wednesday night at Space Coast Stadium in the first game of a scheduled doubleheader. The second game was postponed due to inclement weather and will be made up as part of a doubleheader on May 29. In his second start for the 'Tees, Brooks Hall (0-1, 2.41) gave up two runs - both in the first inning - in five frames of work. He allowed five hits, while walking two and striking out three. He allowed a lead-off triple to Matt Szczur who scored two batters later on a Nelson Perez single. Perez scored three batters later on an Elieser Bonne RBI single. Brevard County (14-24) was held to just one hit against Daytona (15-22) starter Matt Loosen in his 5 2/3 innings of work. The Manatees broke through against reliever Tony Zych as they recorded three consecutive hits against him in the sixth, including a two-run single by Shawn Zarraga that tied the game at 2-2. It would stay tied after seven innings and go into extras as the Cubs put a four spot on the board in the top of the eighth against Greg Holle. Holle had pitched a scoreless seventh but Daytona racked up five hits in the inning against the righty. Game two was scheduled to start 30 minutes following the end of game one but heavy rain, coupled with thunder and lightning forced the contest to be postponed. Brevard will look to end their six-game losing streak as they welcome the Fort Myers Miracle (15-24) to Space Coast Stadium for a four-game series beginning on Thursday night at 6:35 p.m. 2011 first round draft pick Taylor Jungmann (2-3, 2.79) will take the hill for the Manatees. The former Texas Longhorn has a 1.57 ERA at home, but is still seeking his first victory since his second start of the season back on April 10.For the Miracle, they will send righty Marty Popham (3-1, 4.66) to the bump. Box Score Brooks Hall had a bumpy but effective start. I for one am very encouraged by his first handful of appearances. 5 IP 5 H 2 R 2 ER 2 BB 3 K 5:4 GO:FO. Brandon Kinzler completed an impressive exit interview. Greg Holle surrendered the game winner in the 8th. He has been pretty good otherwise. Franklin Romero Jr. nailed a runner at home. Shawn Zarraga nailed half of the attempted stolen bases, including speedster Matt Sczcur. 7 baserunners on the night for the 'Tees. Of the 11 position players to make an appearance for Daytona, 6 have higher batting averages than Nick Shaw, who paced the Manatee position players who played today. Game Log
